Amazingly, many people on this board consider Joe Flacco elite, yet, think Russell Wilson is a "system QB"
|
I randomly picked the 2007 and 2008 drafts, and took the teams' two 1st round picks. Tell me in each case if you would rather have drafted those guys or Russell Wilson.
If a team had more than one pick in a year, I took the guy closest to the 16th pick. Out of 26 teams with two draft picks, I would take Wilson over 20 of them, I would take the two picks in 2 instances, and 4 are a draw. It seems that the value of two draft picks is less about getting two really good players and more about getting one great player, because those are pretty much the only instances where the two picks have equal or greater value than Wilson. I probably should have known this because I'm always harping on the value of quarterbacks and on the value of proven veterans over draft picks. Can I change my vote? 5 Arizona Cardinals Levi Brown OT Penn State 16 Arizona Cardinals Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tennessee State I'd take Wilson. 8 Atlanta Falcons Jamaal Anderson DE Arkansas 21 Atlanta Falcons Sam Baker T USC They also drafted 3 Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan QB Boston College I would take Wilson over the two linemen. 29 Baltimore Ravens Ben Grubbs G Auburn 18 Baltimore Ravens Joe Flacco QB Delaware I'd take the Ravens' guys. 12 Buffalo Bills Marshawn Lynch RB California 11 Buffalo Bills Leodis McKelvin CB Troy Tough one, but I'd go with Wilson. 25 Carolina Panthers Jon Beason MLB Miami (Fla.) 13 Carolina Panthers Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon They also drafted 19 Carolina Panthers Jeff Otah T Pittsburgh Probably Wilson. 31 Chicago Bears Greg Olsen TE Miami (Fla.) 14 Chicago Bears Chris Williams OT Vanderbilt Wilson 18 Cincinnati Bengals Leon Hall CB Michigan 9 Cincinnati Bengals Keith Rivers OLB USC Wilson 3 Cleveland Browns Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin 22 Cleveland Browns Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame Heh. Thomas is good, but I'd go Wilson. 26 Dallas Cowboys Anthony Spencer OLB Purdue 22 Dallas Cowboys Felix Jones RB Arkansas They also drafted 25 Dallas Cowboys Mike Jenkins CB South Florida Wilson. 17 Denver Broncos Jarvis Moss DE Florida 12 Denver Broncos Ryan Clady T Boise State Wilson. 2 Detroit Lions Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech 17 Detroit Lions Gosder Cherilus T Boston College Hmm. Might go Lions here. 16 Green Bay Packers Justin Harrell DT Tennessee Not applicable. 10 Houston Texans Amobi Okoye DT Louisville 26 Houston Texans Duane Brown T Virginia Tech Wilson. 32 Indianapolis Colts Anthony Gonzalez WR Ohio State Not applicable. 21 Jacksonville Jaguars Reggie Nelson FS Florida 8 Jacksonville Jaguars Derrick Harvey DE Florida Wilson. 23 Kansas City Chiefs Dwayne Bowe WR Louisiana State 15 Kansas City Chiefs Branden Albert T Virginia They also drafted 5 Kansas City Chiefs Glenn Dorsey DT Louisiana State Well, this is actually pretty close. While not a popular choice, I might go KC here, but it's kind of a draw. 9 Miami Dolphins Ted Ginn Jr. WR Ohio State 1 Miami Dolphins Jake Long T Michigan Wilson. 7 Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma Not applicable. 24 New England Patriots Brandon Meriweather DB Miami (Fla.) 10 New England Patriots Jerod Mayo ILB Tennessee Wilson. 27 New Orleans Saints Robert Meachem WR Tennessee 7 New Orleans Saints Sedrick Ellis DT USC Wilson. 20 New York Giants Aaron Ross CB Texas 31 New York Giants Kenny Phillips FS Miami (Fla.) Wilson. 14 New York Jets Darrelle Revis CB Pittsburgh 30 New York Jets Dustin Keller TE Purdue They also drafted 6 New York Jets Vernon Gholston LB Ohio State Wilson, even though Revis is good. This one is close. 1 Oakland Raiders JaMarcus Russell QB Louisiana State 4 Oakland Raiders Darren McFadden RB Arkansas Haha. Wilson. 15 Pittsburgh Steelers Lawrence Timmons LB Florida State 23 Pittsburgh Steelers Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois Wilson. And Mendenhall, 9/11 was real. 30 San Diego Chargers Craig Davis WR Louisiana State 27 San Diego Chargers Antoine Cason CB Arizona Haha. Wilson. 11 San Francisco 49ers Patrick Willis ILB Mississippi 28 San Francisco 49ers Joe Staley OT Central Michigan They also drafted 29 San Francisco 49ers Kentwan Balmer DE North Carolina Close. I might actually go 49ers, but it's a draw. 28 Seattle Seahawks Lawrence Jackson DE USC Not applicable. 13 St. Louis Rams Adam Carriker NT Nebraska 2 St. Louis Rams Chris Long DE Virginia Wilson 4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Gaines Adams DE Clemson 20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Aqib Talib CB Kansas Wilson 19 Tennessee Titans Michael Griffin FS Texas 24 Tennessee Titans Chris Johnson RB East Carolina Johnson had a good run. It's close, but I'd go Wilson. Probably a draw. 6 Washington Redskins LaRon Landry SS Louisiana State Not applicable. |

Nobody said Flacco was elite. Hootie just can't read.
Based on what I've read from him in this thread, he's the kind of person that would argue that Emmit Smith (running behind the best OL I've ever seen) is on the same level as Barry Sanders. |

Flacco is playoff elite, and Russell is not? Boy, that's rich.

He's not worth two firsts...and he is, and the rest of you are, are about to find that out.
