Seattle wants more because they see our potential for a SB run with our juggernaut offense and is using that as leverage to get more IMHO.

Go ahead and do that Seattle.

The guy is a FA after this year and you will get a 3rd rd comp at best instead of a 2nd. ROFL

This is why Veach is doing the right thing.

Seattle will budge as the deadline draws closer and they lose more games.

Like Cupid said, they are in no hurry. They have a whole month to sit back and grin as our 2ndary continues to get torched to hades and our offense averages close to 40 a game. I agree, no way they do not trade him to somebody by Oct.30th.

Dude, Seattle is done for the season and Schneider and Carroll know it. There is no urgency on their part. There is no playoffs in their future this season and why they can afford to sit back moreso than us IMHO.

BossChief 09-30-2018 10:12 AM

If they want a 2 and nobody will give it to them, they are being smart by waiting. Some team loses a safety to injury, they could have 2-3 teams trying to trade for ET and then that price goes up.

And some teams won’t want to deal with him because of it.

I imagine most teams will want to give him a 3 year deal (age) and what message does that send to interested teams that he might act up after 2 years?

According to Rappaport this mornig he says the Seahawks are standing Pat on a 2nd as compensation and the Chiefs are the front runners. That sounds to me like veach is trying to offer a lower compensation.

Don’t think Veach would not deal a 2nd if that was the asking price. It’s basically Peters for ET.

It’s got to be two 2s or something like that. If that’s the case then yea wait it out see if it comes down.

Mother****erJones 09-30-2018 10:27 AM

Hopefully Thomas is a healthy scratch come game time and this gets wrapped up

pugsnotdrugs19 09-30-2018 10:27 AM

If Seattle really wants two 2nds, the Chiefs are in the best position to meet their demands and leverage against them because of their current ammo.

Veach can let this drag on a little longer and likely get him for less.

We have two 2nds, if the compensation were only one, I would think it would already be done.

Trading Bell who wants a stupid contract for ET whom they are in the same situation with?

Right. I'm just saying, as far as draft history, those guys aren't recent and relevant. KPass and Speaks are much more relevant in trying to determine what we might be giving up to get Thomas.

So again I say, DO IT VEACH.

CupidStunt 09-30-2018 10:44 AM

I don't buy that SEA is demanding two 2nds. There's no precedent for that really. If someone had offered a 2+3 this would be done. I bet it's more like we're offering a 2+5 and they'll argue about that for a few more weeks. Hopefully a 2+4 gets it done, but if we "cave" and it's a 2+3, fine by me.

Exactly BUT 'punt' at the right time which could be sooner than later to Tex's point about Keenum,Sanders,Thomas and Lindsay lighting our 2ndary up tomorrow night:thumb:

Seattle is clearly holding out for more from us because our 2ndary is that horrid and our offense is that "juggernaut legit" for a SB run.;)

Some believe the Chiefs have the leverage here but I say clearly the Hawks have the leverage if our offense continues to rock while our 2ndary continues to meltdown and Schneider has the luxury of a whole month to watch our 2ndary continue to burn down IMHO.

Buckweath 09-30-2018 10:48 AM

29 years old. Finishing a big contract and about to ask for a huge contract. Not a premium position.

I dont care how good he is. I never got how some fans were even willing to trade a 1st round pick for him.

I am pretty sure the asking price is a 2nd and Veach is duly trying to get it done for a 3rd.

And BTW if not for his attitude, Peters at the moment we traded him was worth quite a bit more than Earl Thomas right now.

As long as we continue to win with our offense performing at the SB level, Hawks have the leverage and Veach will cave IMHO because he knows to win that SB he needs just a few more stops IMHO. Sucks to lose those high picks though so as to shore up our D for the future BUT we do have the "MYHOMEY effect" in play for years so that helps!!:thumb:

None of the guys available were the best at their position and arguably one of the best defenders in the league period.

Jerok 09-30-2018 10:54 AM

I'm rooting for the Cardinals today. Both to knock the Cubs out of the division race (assuming Brewers win) and for Arizona to beat Seattle to knock it into Seattle's head they need to trade ET yesterday and go into full tank mode.

Your answer to the recent history of draft failures is "well, we're going to blow them anyway so might as well trade them." I'm more along the lines of "Veach better start drafting better immediately or he needs to be looking for a new job." We shouldn't be so eager to jettison 2nd rounders just because of a couple misfires.

When the team is ready to win right now, this year, that absolutely should figure in to the equation. If they're going to take their chances this year with what they have in order to not sacrifice the future, that future HAS to be successful and so far we have no indication they can make it so.

We play a lot of single high which is why Earl Thomas has been so successful in Seattle. He's the best centerfielder in the game and it's probably not even close.

Dude, you must think the bigger picture here like I said, we will potentially lose the SB because of our 2ndary(not the season) and Veach wants to ensure the best he can that we don't.

Like some on this board, I do agree that Veach/Reid see this as a 2015 Royals run and immediately recognized this once their assumptions about PM2 and his comprehension/execution of the playbook utilizing all weapons, putting up points and wins has been confirmed.:hmmm:
