What about the lower seeds? What about MSU being 2nd in their precious Pomeroy rankings and losing their first game?

LA LA LA I CANT HEAR YOU

They choked.

Like I said... you'd really enjoy the EPL. You know the Champion sometimes months before the season ends.

I'm not even arguing that it's a better way to determine a champ. It's just not how it's done in NFL, MLB, CBB, CFB, NHL, NBA, Tennis, Golf, and many other sports.

PB, I think you struggle with understanding how compound probability of multiple independent events work. Even if a team is #1, they will have lets say a 98% chance to beat the 16 seed, 75% to beat the 8 seed, 60% to beat the 4 seed, 55% chance to beat the 2seed. And that is just to get to the final four. To go through that minefield to win a championship, it's always unprobable no matter who you are.

A good team usually wins, DUH! But that doesn't mean it isn't any less of a crapshoot. I don't know why you are still freaking out about the Villanova game. Nobody was even a favorite in that game, we just got a shitty draw. Would have been nice to capitalize on it, but we didn't. KU plays Villanova 10 times, it probably goes 5-5.

Let it go. All you can do is put your team in a position to be successful and the highest seed as possible for the NCAA Tournament, and hope you do well. Any teams lack of success based on their seed, or vice versa more or less just happenstance. KU may be perceived to "choking" in the NCAA Tournament, but that is just because they have had way way more opportunities than anybody else to do so and we almost always get a really high seed in the last TWO decades. You have to accept what the NCAA Tournament is, and you apparently do not.

Are you Carl Peterson?

Lotsa fans are happy with league titles and March disappointments. It's no shame losing to Nova but when is he going to WIN an actual toss up?

I wouldn't say I'm happy I'm perfectly content with this outcome. But I am one hell of a lot closer to happy then I am to making my FIRE SELF picket signs.

Obviously 08 was the best year of my fandom. They won the league, the league tournament, and the NCAA. Sure I was pissed about losing to OSU, but I wasn't ready to blow the ****er up because we lost to OSU.

Similarly, I wasn't ready to blow the ****er up after the UNI loss. Man, that sucked, sure. They could have won the whole damn thing of Sherron gets out of bed. But the bottom line is that it was a loss. So was the OSU loss in 08. Either of which offset the tremendous things those respective teams achieved.

Achieving in playoffs always makes that particular team "better".

People think of the '08 Kansas team as better than Memphis because they won the game. Derrick Rose pissed down his leg (which he continues to do in his professional career).

Those free throws were destined to be missed because he's just not as good.

So you're telling me then that the UNI team was better than Sherron/Aldrich and co?

Does the better team always win?

Of course not.

But it could easily be argued that the Duke team that won the title that year was better than KU.

Didn't you just say KU was better than Memphis?

Yes.

Some may say that Memphis choked like people say KU teams choke.

It's playoffs. Great players rise to the occasion.

No, but I thought the hate about Carl was not justified. If you get your team to go 13-3 multiple times, and they don't perform in the playoffs. That isn't the GMs fault. It might actually be nobody's fault except bad luck.

Right. So the best team always wins. Except when it doesn't fit your narrative. Got it. Thanks.

So every game ever played in all sports is a crapshoot. Got it. Thanks.

Prison Bitch 04-04-2016 03:25 PM

If it's all a crapshoot, then we didn't really achieve anything in 2008. We simply got lucky.

We did get lucky. We also were very good. You have to be both to win a national title.

I'm sure there were some wins along the way that were lucky, sure. Some of it is luck that the key players don't get hurt. There is luck in virtually every game that the refs don't go butt**** your best player. There is an element of luck in every game. Sometimes significantly worse teams win a game. And in single elimination, it happens.
