The difference in AC4 with the patch is quite noticeable. Looks great (for a port) now :)

Sony had a similiar pricing strategy for the PS3, so I reckon the PS4 is going to be at that price for awhile, until manufacturing costs come down.

Sony took such a beating in the PS3 era to the point that I'd be ultimately surprised if they recouped all of the R&D cost without funneling money from Blu-ray movie royalty fees.
I actually think the manufacturing costs can lower dramatically after a year, but am anticipating the console price will remain the same until Microsoft drops the price on the One. With how much of a pain it is to process die's with 32mb of esram, I'd venture that manufacturing costs for Microsoft will remain high for awhile.
I will admit that the Xbox one will be an interesting machine once they flesh out their features, smooth things out and have a nice combination of affordable entry price and a nice game collection.
E: EA/dice claiming that there will be a patch rolling out next week to fix all the bullshit with Battlefield4.
