KU signees Cliff Alexander and Kelly Oubre were officially selected to the game on Wednesday night, burnishing their credentials as two of the top recruits in the country.

Alexander, a 6-foot-8 power forward at Curie High School in Chicago, and Oubre, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Findlay Prep in Las Vegas, will take part in the annual high school showcase April 2 in Chicago.

Kansas is still recruiting Myles Turner, a 6-foot-11 center from Euless, Texas, who was also selected to the McDonald’s roster. Kentucky and Duke led the way with four McDonald’s All-Americans each, while North Carolina had three.

KU coach Bill Self has now signed five McDonald’s All-Americans over the last three years — and 13 total since his arrival in Lawrence. (He also coached David Padgett and J.R. Giddens, two McDonald’s All-Americans who were recruited by Roy Williams but arrived at KU after Williams left for North Carolina.)

Bill Self’s McDonald’s All-Americans

Here is the list of McDonald’s All-Americans in the Self era:

2014: Cliff Alexander, Kelly Oubre

2013: Andrew Wiggins, Wayne Selden

2012: Perry Ellis

2010: Josh Selby

2009: Xavier Henry

2007: Cole Aldrich

2006: Sherron Collins, Darrell Arthur

2005: Julian Wright, Mario Chalmers, Micah Downs

Rush only missed it because he was a 5th year, I think. Twins were also ineligible. amazing looking back Embiid didn't make it.

Joel Embiid... NOT a McDonald's All American.

The Big 12 is looking great this year, and KU is 7-0 including 6 wins against potential tournament teams. Looking to be great year for the league and KU is clearly on top.

Where are the losses that will cost us a 10th conference championship?

ArrowheadHawk 01-29-2014 10:43 PM

On a side note KU is only 8 wins behind Kentucky on all time wins.

And that would also mean OU or Texas would have to win out. Not impossible, but unlikely.
