It smells like an ass kicking in the making, idc what anyone wants to say about the past and all that.

I’m expecting something like Chiefs 34 - Texans 17

So I have a friend from college - we'll call him Dan, because that's his name - who is from St. Louis and was a big (some might have said obnoxious) Rams in college, and is also a huge Cardinals fan/homer. Dan lives in Columbia now and is not handling the Patrick Mahomes Chiefs era very well (funny how quickly he has gotten tired of hearing how good Mahomes is and how good Chiefs fans, etc.). Anyway, Dan attempts to troll me regarding the Chiefs/Mahomes from time to time and has popped up doing it again this week.

He started up a bit yesterday/today about the matchup with the Texans. So I did some statistical digging and was SHOCKED at how bad the matchup starts to look for Houston once you do that.

First, on defense... you're talking about a bottom five pass defense, that doesn't sack the passer (bottom 5 in that, too), that was dead last in the NFL in red zone percentage defense (5 percent worse than the next worst team and a whopping 27 percent worse than the median), that also was rough against the run (gave up the same YPC as the Chiefs).

Then you look at the offense, their bread and butter... and it's really just OK (probably why they were outscored on the year despite finishing 10-6). Watson holds the ball a lot, and the Texans were 30th in sack percentage as a result. Their passing offense is slightly above-average but not by much. They run the ball slightly better than they pass it, compared to the league, but are not an elite rushing team, either.

When you stack it up:
Chiefs passing defense vs. Houston passing defense: Advantage KC
Chiefs rushing offense vs. Houston rushing defense: Advantage KC
Houston passing offense vs. Chiefs passing defense: Advantage KC
Houston rushing offense vs. Chiefs rushing defense: Advantage Houston
Special teams returns: Advantage KC
Special teams kicking: Big advantage KC

The only thing that gives me a bit of a pause considering the Texans rushing the passer is that they were without Watt for most of the season. That's a pretty big deal.

I just don't know about an ass kicking. The playoffs usually don't work that way.

See AFC divisional round games from just last year...

I can't believe what a little bitch I was about Will Fuller.

Even if he plays we're going to butt**** this team.

Mahomes is unleashing the dragon this week.

For sure and maybe it works that way again.

But everyone talks about the Chiefs having the Ravens number because they beat them earlier in the year, yet the Texans game doesn't matter. I get it, chiefs had guys hurt etc.

But I am not quite to the point yet where I am a "confident chiefs playoff fan". Not yet.

I think we're getting way too over confident about a win.

Go away Cheatriot scum

Watson didn’t play that well against us. It was mostly Carlos Hyde who beat us.

He ran all over us, but keep the circumstances in mind:

No Pennel
No Jones
No Hitchens
No Ragland
Saunders first game as a pro
No Suggs
Clark was still playing injured

Yikes. That was actually the game that got Darron Lee benched. He was horrific. Spags has barely played him in limited action since.

I’m not over confident about the game. Anything can happen....especially in the playoffs.

But I’m also not going to sit here and be doom and gloom. Why?

1. I’ve come to the realization that’s it just less ****ing enjoyable to worry about games all week long. It doesn’t benefit me in any way.

2. We are a better team than the Texans. We just are. Does that mean we’re guaranteed a win? No. But we damn sure have a better chance at winning than we do losing.

I’ll be a nervous wreck through the entire game like I always am. And if we somehow lose....then I’ll just take a break from CP because this place becomes unbearable after a loss.

1/2 the season. They weren't special rushing the passer with him and only managed 1 sack against KC with him to boot.

And that was WITH Cam Erving playing LT. Mahomes is a wizard at avoiding sacks, but this is not a defense that has been really effective pressuring the quarterback.

Watt is also returning early from a torn pec and has it braced. He's nowhere close to 100 percent and there's a decent probability he was healthier last week than he will be this week.

When you're less than 100 percent healed and return early, you're usually best the first time back, then have diminishing returns from there due to the injury getting worse again until you can fully rest it.

They had him when we played the first time and we didn’t have Fisher for that game either. It was still only a 7 point game with the Chiefs making a shit load of mistakes to keep the Texans in the game.

We were missing a lot more than they were in that first matchup.

Reid with 2 weeks vs. O'Brien on the road. This is the biggest factor...Chiefs lost the last one. I think they will be ready to play.

JJ Watt doesn't get a rookie OL this week with crowd noise...and an emotional return.

Chiefs have Watkins for this game....and a healthy Mahomes/Hill.

Watson is an amazing player...he single-highhandedly willed them to win last weekend. That last play might the best of the year. Definitely a "charmed" player. He's a good dude that gave his first game check to cafeteria workers. I cant hate him...but Mahomes is the better QB.

Chiefs would have to have a really bad game...or strange officiating/turnovers in key moments to lose. Hyde isn't going to run wild again...

The score was 17-3 and the Chiefs were on the Texans 30 yard line with no signs of slowing down when Pat Mahomes threw an interception on what he thought was a free play because of the PI that should've been called on Kelce.

That interception, and the strip/sack before the half are what lost that game for the Chiefs.

Up until those two obscure plays the Chiefs looked like they were going to blow out the Texans.
