Yeah, Daryl walking off with merl pissed me right off. But it's seems pretty inevitable that Daryl will end up killing merl for some reason.

Fishpicker 02-14-2013 12:25 AM

I think Daryl is taking one for the team by running off with Merle. He knows better than anybody that Merle will clash with everyone else in the prison. He sided with Merle so he could lead Merle away from there. Merle will big time Daryl eventually and Daryl will respond by putting a crossbow bolt through Merle's noggin.

Heh, nice.
It did kind of crack me up that Merl hadn’t even been back with the group for 10 minutes and was already doing the same shit that got him handcuffed to a roof in Atlanta.

Yeah, that kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Like they were trying too hard to make him a dick.

I think the attitude worked. He had been bottled up/holding back with the governor for so long that seeing his brother brought himself out stronger than usual. I foresee a heavy dose of asshole Merle for a few episodes before he gets offed.

Urc Burry 02-14-2013 10:18 AM

I just ordered the first set of comics or whatever. The 1000 page one.. Where is it at with the episodes? I mean are all of the episodes so far in it? Or are they passed it

Everything the show has done is in it and then some.

the Talking Can 02-15-2013 10:07 PM

just saw it...gotta agree that ending was kinda meh...the 'rick losing it' is right at the limits of his acting abilities, .it's Shakespearean in a non-flattering way

and he really isn't the most interesting character at the moment, imo..

felt they had a hard time with so many story lines in that episode, hope that's just an isolated problem

The episode didn't have the feel of a mid-season premiere. I wouldn't be suprised if they never planned on chopping the season in two parts, but when they did this was the point they just kind of decided to start it back up with.

I like Daryl. He's badass with a side of tenderness, (i.e. him handling the baby, taking care of Carol, etc.). But Merle? He's just a POS that only cares about himself.

I hope that Glenn kicks the living shit out of Merle. That would make me happy. :D

Oh and yes, this show needs more color. I'm still wondering what happened to the guy and his boy in Season 1. I won't say what happens in the comics, but I hope to see them both come back.

Speaking of the comics, how did you like them? More than the show? Less?

Fishpicker 02-18-2013 01:38 AM

I liked the episode a lot, that was the most extended action scene in the series. my favorite scene was Michonne chopping zombie craniums. I have to pick some nits though. It bugged me that Maggie took cover behind a flimsy aluminum filing cabinet and Rick took cover behind a wooden bridge that was 4-6 inches tall. They got away with it but that seemed really dumb. Rick would know better.

The governor is missing his right eye (most likely his dominant eye) and sniped the prisoner. that doesn't make any sense. how is he looking down the scope when the rifle butt is pitted in his right shoulder. the other thing that bugged me was in the previous episode. the governor was walking at a brisk pace and capped a zombie right in the melon while firing from the hip. apparently the gov's missing eye doesn't affect his depth perception and his long range vision. The he went full auto and couldn't hit anything. it's really inconsistent.

Merle's moving slowly into antihero territory now as I thought he eventually might. I suspect he dies at the end of this season, though, probably helping his brother/the group in the fight against the Governor.

One episode is enough of Rick stumbling around aimlessly in delusion, though. I hope this doesn't last much past this.

I mean, I think we get the point already. This world and devastation it causes leads people to lose their shit. But when the effects of that involve the main protagonist stumbling and mumbling around for several minutes an episode about nothing while losing any sense of reality, it isn't particularly interesting television. Enough is enough there.

When Rick eventually gets sane again, the group will probably have a conversation about needing reinforcements to beat the Governor. They then go get them back and Tyreese arrives to help protect in the prison in a war that will end the season.

Probably nothing more interesting than that for his re-entrance, but we'll see.

not to be a debbie downer, but this was covered a couple posts above.

gov's looking in a mirror.

one thing i was thinking about though. when the woodbury crew attacked, who was watching the baby. all of rick's crew was in the prison outskirts. who was watching the baby?

Aries Walker 02-18-2013 11:45 PM

No one was watching the baby. Maggie was the last one out the door, so chances are she put her in her Post Office bin, set her on a top bunk, locked the door, shoved the keys in her pocket, and went out to bag her some tower sniper.

Theory Number One: The Gov has set Merle up to infiltrate the prison group. That's why Merle was uncuffed while Daryl was shackled in the arena. That's why the Governor had that stupid grin on his face as they 'rescued' the brothers. That's why the Governor staged that shooting at all, then cut and run when they could have hung around and wiped them all out. The least the Governor is expecting to get from the infiltration is recon of numbers and defenses; the most is an inside assassin that will take out the leadership before they know what hit them.

Theory Number Two: The driver of the Zombie Van was Karen, the dark-haired woman to whom Andrea was talking earlier. When the Governor and Rick meet, the Gov is playing to play mind games with Rick and tell him that that was actually Andrea, who has turned on them and is loyal to Woodbury now.

Theory Number Three: My top five Most Likely Next To Die list, in no particular order: Herschel and his other daughter, Bob and Alan, and Menendez.

Disclaimer: I haven't read any of the comics, and in fact try to avoid discussion of them.

Guessin that in the zombie apocalypse SIDS isn't high on the concern list.

ChiefsFanatic 02-19-2013 07:53 AM

I was at the Midland on the 15th for a night with Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan and Greg Nicotero. It was awesome. Norman Reedus talked about the conscious change he made in his acting when the scenes involved interaction between him and Rooker. He purposely reverted to the "little brother" dynamic.

It was so enjoyable knowing what changes were made to the scripts and for what reason. If anyone else went, they know exactly what I am talking about. It was well worth the money, not only as a fan of this show, but the creative process in general.

I believe the person ran past Michonne when she was huddled next to the bus. There is a chance that the person was scooped up when the Governor drove the truck in and met Glenn in his truck, but I'm thinking that the person used the chaos to slip inside unnoticed.

Maybe that was the reason the Governor was firing into the air. To keep people behind cover with their heads in the dirt, while not risking shooting his own man...

That was my thinking as well. I may need to rewatch it this evening.

Bowser 02-19-2013 11:49 AM

I'm going with the theory that the driver of the zombie van bomb was the nerd. He was acting all jittery with Andrea when she was asking what was happening in the town, and the Gov gave him that rah-rah speech earlier in the show.
