Ugh.

rico 09-05-2018 07:49 PM

We had Zimmerman OUT at home. **** they botched that. We can’t afford to be just giving games away like this.

rico 09-05-2018 07:57 PM

Oh for ****s sake this is bullshit. Zimmerman was out and Bader was ****ing safe. ****ing bull roar.

Infuriating. Can not lose games like this right now.

Hudson get a case of the yips for a bit there? He looked shook up and was sweating bullets. That one pass ball came off his hand as if his hand was drenched with sweat. Dude has seemed tired lately.

And now we have Molina in pain... I hate having to rely on fending these guys off with a one run cushion compared to the comfy 6 run cushion we had. :#

rico 09-05-2018 08:08 PM

Eat shit, Bryce.

Just struck Zimmerman out looking with a backup slider. Looked nice.

No doubt. That and the two botched calls and if Bader would have made that play in center, it’d still be 7-2.

If we eat out of this, it’s an ugly, ugly win.

BigRedChief 09-05-2018 08:39 PM

What the hell is up with this team having horrible at bats with the bases loaded?

Martinez has been like this every since he first came up. He can walk the bases loaded and then strike out the side with his stuff.

I like him as our closer. I think pitching the 9th will focus him and allow his natural high level stuff to work it’s magic.

this is his first time facing MLB hitters. And in a pennant race. He’s relieving because of his innings pitched this year. So like you said, maybe he’s tired too?

It's really the worst bullpen I've ever seen. Martinez is the only dit in the entire pen that has an out pitch he can control.

yeah they had to get on a winning streak to get themselfs in position to compete for the playoffs. Then the inevitable back to earth patch happened. Now they have 18 games left. They are going to have to earn a spot in the WC. Any wins from here on out are great.

We throw Flaherty in the WC game, we got a “real” chance at winning. That’s more fun that I could have thought possible 6 weeks ago.

Chris Carpenter told Mo he wanted to work with individual pitchers instead of these clinics or talks he had been doing for the team in the minors. Mo asked Carpenter which pitchers he would like to work with. He only said one name, Flaherty. Mo asked why. Carp said because I see a lot of myself in him.

Flaherty was talking with Bob Gibson on an old timers day. He was asking about his slider. A friendship began. Flaherty seeks counsel from Gibson all the time now since Gibson gave him his personal phone number. Gibson told him he watches all the games. Flaherty asked if he can call him after the game about pitch choices during the game and how he would have approached that at bat. First time he has given his number to a pitcher. When asked why he said, I see myself in him.

No, Flaherty has not reached his full potential but he's ready to take the ball in a winner take all game. Two of the greatest bulldog pitchers in our history think so, I'm with them.

Just because they think he will be great doesn’t mean he’s ready for that yet. Carpenter wasn’t the same guy in Toronto that he was his last few years here.

I’m also not trying to be overly argumentative because I wouldn’t have a problem with either. A lot of it will depend how the rotation falls because I doubt we have a spot clinched going into the last weekend against the Cubs.

6 weeks ago I think it's probably a close question. 2 weeks from now it could be again.

But Mikolas is a guy that pitches backwards and has to do crafty righty stuff. Teams can/will eventually adjust to that. Moreover, he just looks like he's a little tired right now.

Meanwhile Flaherty can just come right at you and beat you with raw stuff. That's how you win in the post-season. Better still, Flaherty - at least right now - doesn't appear to be tiring.

Obviously things could change between now and then. Frankly, we may not have the luxury of setting up our rotation and maybe Gomber has to take the start. But if I could set up my rotation any way I wanted for the WC game, it would be Flaherty without question.

Mikolas has an average of 6+ runs of support every game. Many pitchers will have his success with 6 runs every time. Lefties are hitting .500+ the last 10 games he’s pitched. He can’t get inside on them.

If you can’t trust a pitcher to hold a 10 run lead with only 3 outs to go, why are you still on the club? He needs to go work on getting a MLB ready curve ball and not until then.

Jewish Rabbi 09-11-2018 10:18 PM

Was at the game tonight. If there were more than 1000 people left in the 9th Weaver would have been booed off the mound. Throw a first pitch strike for God’s sake.

Day games, man.

They seem to always come out flat in them. Sometimes they have an inning where they get 2-3 runs and that's enough to pull out the W but they just don't seem to come out with much energy for day games. Combine that with the fact that they'd already secured the series win and it just feels like one of those class "LaRussa getaway days" where he pretty openly couldn't have given less of a shit about the outcome.

we are even playing against Pitt’s “C” lineup. But as it’s been this way all year, winning or losing is determined by our play not whoever we are playing. We beat good teams and lose to bad teams.

Overall we are on track to make it into the WC. Fired Matheny and a WC berth is way better than I thought this year was going to turn out.

It’s definitey a long shot, but 3.5 back in the division and 3 games each against the Cubs and Brewers, we are not eliminated from the division.

16 left. 9-7 gets us 90 wins. That should be good enough for the WC.

2 weeks ago 90 wins seemed like a cakewalk. Unfortunately they've pissed away the start of September and have just scuffled along at .500 the whole time.

They really should have a shot at 93-94 wins but they've just lost a ton of momentum due to really poor situational hitting.

on the flip side, considering they were .500 until Matheny was fired and we have now the 4th best record in the NL, it ain’t so bad.

Every team in the NL besides the Brewers, has been inconsistent lately. How do you think the fans of the Dodgers, D-Backs, Rockies and Cubs feel right now?

We went to LA and swept them. Rockies and won the series. We have been Kershaws kryponite. 4.20 ERA. 2-6 W/L. We beat him tonight the WC is almost ours.

Feeling like it's game 6 and 7 of the WS all over and Maddon forgot how to manage baseball. Cubs are in the middle of a 23 or so game stretch with no day off and it's taking it's toll on the players but Maddon has been epically stupid.

Might have just lost Strop for the remainder of the season because with the bases loaded in the 10th and only 1 out he decides to let Strop hit after he was brought in during the 8th and he ends up pulling his hammy running to first.

BigRedChief 09-13-2018 05:53 PM

I’m getting tired of those same pathetic AB’s from Martinez. He just looks at a get over strike. No intention of swinging. Then he gets shit from the pitcher the rest of the AB. Finishing up with a pitch in the dirt way over in the other batters box that he swings at like it’s little league. And they keep batting him 3rd.

I sat in the same section earlier this week. Nice seats with a privateish option for food with some tables you can actually sit down and eat at.

We parked in the garage at the northwest corner of the stadium. $20 may not be the cheapest but you are literally one turn onto 64 and can get onto 70 that way.
