Topeka is Des Moines.
I wouldn't know I lived there from age zero till two. Not many memories. I do love northeast Kansas though. It's more the area (Manhattan, Lawrence and KC) than just Topeka.

Last time I was there I saw help wanted signs everywhere. People aren't going to move to a town to work a retail job.

I'm from the plains too. To me, every one of these college towns is exactly the same. A little enclave surrounded by farm/ranch.
