we have no chance at the division. As much as I like hearing of a Cubs loss, I’d rather have the Cubs get the division locked up before we play them. No way the Cubs lay down for us but if they have the division and HFA in the bag, they can rest guys with lingering injuries.

We need to avoid burning Flaherty in game 162 to get the WC.

Doesn’t matter to me if we go on the road to Brewers or at home. We have done well there in the playoffs and this year. Flaherty has pitched well against the Brewers and especially at Miller Park.

That was an awful game defensively. Thankfully the Giants are awful offensively. They got some lucky flares to drop in along with our shoddy play to get to 4 runs.

Good to get that win and not totally waist those two C-Mart innings.

To be fair, O’Neill gets to that ball and Thames isn’t even on base. Or if Martinez just keeps it in front of him the runner doesn’t score from 2nd.

They just ran out of gas. I knew it was over yesterday when Flaherty started looking tired. They got to Hader and still blew it.

I thought it would be a good experience for the young players to be in a WC game even if they lost.

Still was a fun 2nd half for the most part. Matheny finally being gone was and is still the best thing to help this team move forward.

Doesn't matter to me as long as the Rockies pass the Cardinals for the 2nd WC spot.

I dont really give a rats ass about this season because there isn't a single team in the NL that is going to actually challenge the AL.

Brewers dont have pitching.

Cubs have the most inconsistent hitting you'll ever see with an even more depleted bullpen thanks to Maddon trying to stretch Strop out after he had already pitched 1.1 innings and letting him bat in extra innings.

Not really sure what the Dodgers excuse is except for being the Dodgers.

Unless MLBs in house version is much more accurate than the shit you see on TV they still need a lot of work.

Some of the ones on broadcasts are laughably off.

They have tried it out in a very limited fashion in some semi-pro games and it worked fairly well. Honestly, even if it isn't that accurate can it be worse than the human umpires at this point?

I've seen some where a ball in the dirt split the line at the bottom of the zone.

I'd much rather the MLB actually hold umpires accountable and start firing the known disasters like Hernandez, West, etc...

To be fair, it’s all a dumpster fire now, besides Martinez. To be real though, Norris is a big reason as to why it’s a dumpster fire.

Missing the playoffs 3 years in a row, fans are going to want big changes in the lineup.

Pitching will be better. They just ran out of gas. Flaherty should be able to give them 200 innings next season. Hudson 175 innings. Mikolas and Martinez 200+ each. Wacha and Reyes combined 200. Gomber 150.

We need a MOTOB. We either need to throw $300 million at Harper or Machado to sign or trade for some better bats.

I was just making a joke about Reyes.

There's 10 pitchers in all of baseball that currently sit at 200 IP so thinking the Cardinals are going to have 3 next season is a weeeeeeee bit optimistic.

200 IP you are talking about missing no time at all and carrying a 6+ IP per start average. Something Flaherty only accomplished in 2 months during the season. Realistically you would probably look for 180 out of him and Martinez.

I wouldn't expect Mikolas to repeat next year and honestly if I was a Cardinals fan I would be hoping he was traded in the offseason, should have traded him at the deadline for peak value.

Any given day against this Cubs offense.

He's given up about 3 HRs on any other day but this offensive approach has been pathetic. I'm starting to understand why Chili Davis was fired because all year this team has consistently been not ready to hit that first hitters pitch. More concerned with making a pitcher throw a bunch of pitches and end up looking at that one pitch you get during an AB only to later swing at the breaking ball in the dirt.

Pasta Little Brioni 09-29-2018 01:32 PM

18-4 lulz

Need only three things to happen to force a playoff....but hopefully LA wins and Mo is canned.

jd1020 09-29-2018 01:34 PM

On queue Rizzo looks at the first pitch which was a cookie 88 mph hanging change up right down the middle only to swing at the change up low and outside 2 pitches later for an easy ground out to 2b.

Pasta Little Brioni 09-29-2018 01:38 PM

They aren't going to snipe anything. They've been the best team in the division for a month now. If they end up winning the division it has more to do with their 2 series wins against the Cubs this month than anything the Cardinals are doing.

jd1020 09-29-2018 01:48 PM

Chances are the division is going to come down to a game 163 which is stupid in and of itself.

You play 162 games a season and the only tie breaker you can come up with is another game?

Pasta Little Brioni 09-29-2018 01:56 PM

Eliminate divisions, balance the schedule, top 6 teams from each league go to the playoffs, top 2 go to the "divisional round", remaining 4 play in a 3 game series.

Eliminate the bullshit of having teams like the Tigers play in a shit division make it to the playoffs with the 7th best record in their league.

Or situations like the Pirates having to face a couple Cy Young pitchers in a 1 game playoff.

I don't think divisions should be eliminated, but playoff selection should be based solely on record. So you won a shit division but six other teams had better records? You get a division champion shirt and a participation trophy and October off while the actual good teams play.

Should be that way in football, too.

You still run into issues with unblanced schedules.

Sure you could still balance the schedule with divisions but you'll only play any individual team in your division at most 10 times a season so what's the point in keeping divisions in that scenario.

I don't think eliminating divisions would kill rivalries because most rivalries are regional in the first place. Like Cubs and Cardinals is a rivalry because fanbases territory meets in the middle. But I don't consider the Reds or Pirates a rival even though they are in the same division because they are so far away from the division geographically.

And?

The Cards and Cubs split the same state in which the Cubs are in and the Cards play on the border. The Brewers are 30 mins north.

There's an entire state that separates the Reds from the closest team to the west.

I'm right smack dab in the middle of Cubs-Cards country and it's about 90 mins to St. Louis and about 2 1/2 hours to Chicago. Its 5 hours to Cincinatti.
