I think I'm going to start taking an iron supplement. I've tried them before, and I'm definitely sensitive to the side effect of the upset stomach. Anyone know of any that would be good for a seemingly sensitive stomach? Maybe a liquid would help?

Eat red meat and other foods rich in iron. Why do you think you need to supplement?

  • Red meat
  • Egg yolks
  • Dark, leafy greens (spinach, collards)
  • Dried fruit (prunes, raisins)
  • Iron-enriched cereals and grains (check the labels)
  • Mollusks (oysters, clams, scallops)
  • Turkey or chicken giblets
  • Beans, lentils, chick peas and soybeans
  • Liver
  • Artichokes
Consuming foods rich in vitamin C along with foods rich in iron helps your body absorb iron better.

I know what foods are iron-rich. I just don't think I eat enough of those foods. My hands are always cold, I've gotten to where I get light headed easily, and I've been feeling a little fatigued the last 3-4 days.

Talk to your doctor first.

Just as Silock said, go to the doctor first. You need bloodwork done to know if you have low iron levels or not. Those symptoms could be many different things.

Yup. Also, if you do need an iron supplement, blood work will be able to tell you how much. You don't want to go from "not enough" to "too much," because that's bad, too.

Agree here, and if at all possible, I'd fix it with diet.

Wife is somewhat anemic, not bad, but sometimes she gets migraines on account of it. But prior to getting pregnant she started taking prenatals. They have some iron in them and it helped somewhat. But after one of the billion times they took her blood, they suggested iron supplement.

Not sure what kind of upset stomach you get, but the prenatals wife took had a stool softener in it to help with all that.

I'd definitely talk to a doctor. I think a 30 minute lab workup will tell you what you need to know.

I am one broke white girl. I can't afford to get blood work done right now. I'll try adjusting my diet. I ate an Angus hamburger patty for dinner after the gym. Went way over on my fat for the day, but I'll know to plan better next time.

You do realize that eating fat doesn't make you fat, right?

Red meat is your friend. Wife would get a bunch of migraines and get really worn down and shit. Eats a hamburger and its all good in the hood.

Silock is the man about finding lean red meat on a budget.

I know it's always dangerous to post pictures of ourselves on here, but oh friggin' well. Here's my before and "in progress" picture. Almost halfway to where I want to be! Oh, and the In Progress picture is from tonight after the gym.
