Veach can draft well but we do draft at the end of each round every year. Having a higher pick does make a difference. Trent McDuffie is a good example of this. He seems like a legit blue chipper. Obviously Skyy Moore is TBD but if he's a good WR this year like we hope then there's more proof.

Having another anchor for a contract could make cap very tricky. Yeah Veach has been very good drafting, but it's not wise to think he'll be that good every year. No GM has great drafts consistently every year. Always good to have flexibility in cap space.

I don't think he needs to have great drafts every year. But look at the saints drafts from around 2012 to 2016. It's appalling how bad they were at getting talent and developing talent. If we can avoid that which I'm fully confident we can, I don't think that would be an issue at all.

Great article. Thanks for posting.

I think this is the exact right way to look at it and am back on the not-remotely-sympathetic-to-Jones train. It's a very fair offer when views through this lens.

I’m on the Jones has shitty agents bandwagon.

I really wish we had traded him. Just rippes the band-aid off and moved on.

Yeah, I'm there too. It seems he's got it in his head that the money he's losing now and potentially in the future if he holds out and what that will do to the tag doesn't matter because he'll get a huge signing bonus, and that g-jack will offset the losses. I'd say the agents have convinced him of this because they're looking to make a splash with their one legit superstar client.

Ultimately, it's up to Jones what he wants to do and not the agents, but I feel they're giving him not great advice.

This is so awesome. Thank you Chris Jones. Eventually you may give so much back from the cap we can sign some cool wiley vets later in the year with the money you gave up.

Which I why I think any new contract from the Chiefs is sneaky risky.

$8.64M in sweet, sweet cap space once he holds out 8 games.

dirk digler 09-03-2023 10:02 AM

How big of an idiot do you have to be to skip out on your contract and lose $1 million per week. What a dope.

FringeNC 09-03-2023 10:07 AM

The Chiefs have probably massively upgraded their OTs and same may be true at WR. Opposing Os will be put under tremendous pressure to score every possession. It's going to be hard to evaluate how good the D is without Jones because of all the gambles teams will be taking to keep pace -- sometimes they will work, other times not so much.
