LeBron is 38. He’s on the decline. And yet he’s still playing this well even on a team that flat out quit.

Don’t get the hate.

Sassy Squatch 05-22-2023 09:58 PM

It's actually a bit baffling how Lebron only has one ring people actually respect despite playing as long as he has. The two titles from the Heat are fraudulent by the standards of Lebron stans and quite a few don't count the COVID chip.

Same reason the Brady fans hate on Mahomes. They are terrified of what he means for their idol's legacy.

It's hilarious to watch him succumb to self inflicted schadenfreude repeatedly because he's kind of a bitchmade douche? What's so hard to figure out here?

i'd give him credit for three rings

it's ok for lebron to be the 5th or 6th best player ever

but jordan did greater things on a basketball court and that is not up for debate

pathetic argument

LeBron didn't have the benefit of being handed 3 HOFers to play with at his first franchise. Instead, he got Mo Williams and Zydrunas Ilgauskas.

He had four titles and would have had at least two more had the #2 and #3 players in the league not gotten so scared of him that they decided to team up.

Of course, considering he's still averaging 30 point triple doubles at his age, he's got more than enough time to jump on board any contender he wants over the next decade if adding up more titles really is the goal.

It’s not a dishonest argument, it’s just a fact. Even superstars like LeBron and MJ need help to win these things, that’s the way it has always been.

MJ was a great, great player in the 80s who did unmatched individual things but he never won a thing with Pippen.

Lol LeBron played great defense this entire series. They actually had him guarding the best player in the league for significant portions of it, a guy who has 3 inches and 50+ pounds on him. He’s still got it in the tank when he needs it.

I don't think Pippen matters.

Jordan and the Bulls, superstar and franchise, had to go through an evolutionary process to become the championship team they eventually would become.

Pippen or not, Jordan wasn't coming into the association and winning it all in years 1-3. That's the case with every superstar with the exception of Magic Johnson.

Hey, Detroit and Atlanta both shook hands with Cleveland following those series, yet LeBron James displays his immaturity by walking off the court, refusing to shake hands or talk to reporters?

And, to add insult to injury, his statements the day after the event only made me realize that LeBron doesn't really have a clue about professionalism and good sportsmanship.

Or marketing.

Apparently LeBron is too much of a competitor to shake hands with someone who just beat him up. What?

Is he implying those other teams weren't competing?

Look, refusing to shake hands and then not admitting you were wrong after the fact is bad public relations, if nothing else. Of all modern athletes, LeBron and his handlers should understand marketing and PR, right?

Instead of coming out and making the statements he did, he should have come out and said, "I'm sorry, I was wrong, but in the heart of the moment I was upset at losing and acted with a lack of maturity. I want to apologize to the players and coaching staff of the Orlando Magic and congratulate them on a great victory. It won't happen again."

How hard would that have been? In fact, the whole thing would have gone away a lot quicker and we wouldn't be writing and hearing about it as much.

But no. Instead, here were LeBron's comments on the incident:

"It's hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them," he said. "I'm a winner. It's not being a poor sport or anything like that. If somebody beats you up, you're not going to congratulate them. That doesn't make sense to me. I'm a competitor. That's what I do. It doesn't make sense for me to go over and shake somebody's hand."

After sending a message to the Grizzlies with an emphatic series-clinching Game 6 win in Los Angeles, Lakers superstar LeBron James made it clear he wasn’t in the mood to exchange pleasantries with the team he just sent packing in the first round.

James called it a night early on Friday against No. 2-seed Memphis after contributing 22 points in a series-low 31 minutes during the Lakers’ 125–85 victory. As James watched from the bench while the seventh-seeded Lakers iced the clinching game, however, the four-time NBA champion decided to head to the locker room with 14.1 seconds left.

James’s leaving the floor before the final buzzer was, of course, immediately noticed by the ESPN broadcast crew, considering his decision to forgo the traditional postgame handshakes with the opponent.

Lebron is like a used car. I've never seen people work so hard to try to sale him. Premium products sale themselves. MJ, Brady, Mahomes sale without 24-7 tweets and comments from guys like Wright, Barry and KCC. It's like their job to get him over.

MJ spent basically his entire career with one team and didn’t waste time ring chasing by leaving to go form Super Teams that he could hand pick to his liking. If you have to sell something this hard, you might want to stop and think theres a reason why. You realize that right Ken Pom boy?

Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4....playoff sweeps

Pasta Little Brioni 05-23-2023 06:46 AM

Any chance to catch MJ is now dead and buried...love it. Same as seeing a bunch of fake fans leaving empty handed

Very Brady like to steal the attention away from the Nuggets and the Finals.

People are sick of LeBron, just like Brady.

Both need to die horrible deaths. Instead we lost Kobe. Very sad.

LeBron is always such a sportsman in defeat. Another reason he’s the GOAT, he acknowledges, respects, understands and appreciates the greatness of other players.

Look at that quote. Even when he is speaking highly of another player, he is stroking his ego.

Sorta.

Mostly it's another power play. It's similar to those short term deals he always signs - he wants the leverage of not re-signing to ensure teams do what he tells them to do.

Nevermind that the team didn't start to play well until after they got out from under his LAST round of stupid leverage plays.

But yeah, it's an attempt to get a Kyrie deal done. He's telling the Lakers to include Rui or the first or both; whatever it takes - to facilitate a sign and trade of Russell for Kyrie.

Lord was Russell awful in this series. Just no sugarcoating that at all. But in the end, Denver is just a better team. LA could've beaten them, but they needed more consistent play from AD (never gonna happen) and yeah, they needed LeBron to be a few years younger. Or maybe turn on the 'go' switch prior to the first half of a game that really didn't even matter much.

Yeah.... Not sure about this one. Lebron and his stans make for pretty decent lolcows, but wasn't Kobe a borderline sex offender, if not outright rapist?

Kobe was far more likable than LeBron, and never had the arrogance or sheer audacity to proclaim he was better than him.

He also wasn't a ring-chasing franchise killer.

RunKC 05-23-2023 09:03 AM

Yup. LeBron is trying to make one last run of it. Brady did the same thing when he left New England for an absolutely stacked Bucs team that had high draft picks for years and didn’t have to pay those guys yet.

Yeah Kobe fans were always worse to me. Ignoring his case, ignoring that he was an outright ball hog the majority of the time, saying he was better than Shaq and never needed him, etc.

And yes Kobe stans did say that he was just as good as Michael which is wild.

Hammock Parties 05-23-2023 09:09 AM

The best way this can end is for LeBron to team up with his dipshit spoiled son, who will suck in the NBA. LeBron tries to carry him and fails. They both get swept in the first round of the playoffs.

I would pay good money to see father and son get embarrassed.

Sorry, should have clarified my point better. He already made sure AD (star player) came there. Now he needs another one (Kyrie - Top 5 scorer) to come there to get him over the top, again.

My college roommates girlfriend made the local news by calling out LeBron (see video). When I seen it I was like "oh shit that's Melonie". Kind of wrong for her to do that and she seemed like a sweet girl when she'd come over to our place.

Regardless of the outcome of the game, the Lakers were never winning this series. Any such win tonight would have just been delaying the inevitable.

Because of the way this went, LeBron still got to show he's GOAT (nobody has ever or will ever again have a game like tonight at his age) and at the same time I also get to blame his useless teammates who somehow didn't step up in a game where LeBron had a 40 point triple double on 60% shooting.

LeBron james - such a good player that KCC has given him 3 triple doubles in a series where he's had none.

I love how he keeps rounding up. Oh sure, completely petty, but hilarious nonetheless.

The series was over after game 2. And yeah, James played a significant role in that loss, KCC excuse-making notwithstanding. That said, after watching Denver just methodically continue to hammer away, I feel like the series may have been over after game 1. I'm not sure LA could've won this thing even with a G2 win. I think they'd have needed to steal BOTH games in Denver, use Game 3 as a giveaway game, throw a shitload at game 4 to go up 3-1, tank game 5 and try to close it out in 6.

Denver was just a better team.

Sassy Squatch 05-23-2023 10:25 AM

The funniest thing is now the Lakers need to mortgage the tiny bit of value they have left for *checks notes* Kyrie Irving. Also signing him to aax contract to boot I'm assuming.

Despite being 39 years old and playing on a bad foot, he still managed to average nearly the same line he's been averaging for decades now in these series (a 30 point triple double). Yeah, he can't take on the same scoring load he used to but that's where he needs more help from his teammates and didn't get it in the Denver series. The guy is the greatest to ever play the game and he proves it every time he steps between the lines.

If you have any better plan to make them a better team, let me know. I suppose they could consider trading AD (given he only shows up in half of his playoff games), but they're never getting a player back as good as him if they do.
