Most likely unless in year 2 he starts catching fire.
Look at his statline against I think Green Bay last year or his last game before he got injured. If he put up numbers like that or a bit lower I could see them justifying him sticking around, but I don't think that is likely to be how it works out.
Andy seems to love getting a chance to groom Bray and if he can get Bray to understand the mental aspect and footwork Smith has got, he's gonna be one giddy head coach with a shiny new badass toy at QB.

Yep.
No one is saying for sure that Smith will ever see numbers like this for the Chiefs. No one is saying that he is playing great football right now. The consideration is this... Since people love to drag history around with them as an indicator of something... this QB could just get a lot better with this team over time.. just as he did before. He was elevating his play nicely as the 49ers' offense was finding itself.
How much time will it take? Well, we'll just have to see, but he won't be given more than another year to truly make Reid and Dorsey comfortable. Like stated before, the rest of this year is an audition of sorts. Sure, he will probably be your starter going into 2014. But if he is playing underwhelming football through 2013? KC will bring in someone that appears to have more of a future. They could do so regardless of how he plays, as he is approaching 30, and you never know about injuries.
In the meantime, I don't see why people can't simply enjoy the ride WHILE ALSO cutting him some slack. I mean, it isn't every QB that can walk onto a new team full of players learning a new scheme... and just dominate. It does take time.. but as the 49ers' 2011 season shows.. there can be a lot of success until everything clicks into place too.
