Admit it; you're the chick in the back.

Perfect comparison!!!

I bet Alex Smith has led more 3 point scoring drives than Horry.

And look how many rings Horry has... the writing is on the wall baby!!!

TO THE ****IN SHIP!

If Alex Smith is our starting QB and we won a Super Bowl, I don't give a shit how much he sucks- I will be delirious and in ecstasy. Probably would make it sweeter to always have that to rub in any haters face.

And then we can change the way his name is typed on CP. I'm actually surprised no one has thought of this for as much as Smith being a good or bad QB in spite of winning is discussed here. Simply refer to him as:

Alex'S Myth

If you haven't noticed, it takes a nice chunk of change, and if you do it right, 7+ hours... the latter is hard to come by and they've gotten plenty of the former from me in the past.

The best case scenario, IMO, is that Dorsey and Reid already know Smith is a stop gap, giving him the benefit of the doubt, but are ready to the pull the trigger on a first rounder or a better FA if needed. Dorsey, of course, comes from a franchise that obviously gets it... the Packers have drafted more QBs in the first 3 rounds in the past 20 years, even though they've basically only started two in the time frame (the Chiefs -- 1 :banghead: ). And I know people say "there's no Andrew Luck this year!" or there are no guarantees, but I want them to TRY. Just TRY for the first time in 30 years (well, 2nd if you really want to include Croyle).

Of course, that doesn't mean they should have drafted one simply due to the history of the Chiefs... while it was certainly frustrating and reeked of what we've seen in the past, and it's frustrating to have to say "well, maybe THIS regime has a better plan" (again), maybe they do, and all we can do is give them the benefit of the doubt until they prove us right or wrong.

Most likely unless in year 2 he starts catching fire.
Look at his statline against I think Green Bay last year or his last game before he got injured. If he put up numbers like that or a bit lower I could see them justifying him sticking around, but I don't think that is likely to be how it works out.

Andy seems to love getting a chance to groom Bray and if he can get Bray to understand the mental aspect and footwork Smith has got, he's gonna be one giddy head coach with a shiny new badass toy at QB.

Yep.

Smith was 27 of 29 (.931) for 313 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions and a 151.2 rating in his final passes as a 49er.

No one is saying for sure that Smith will ever see numbers like this for the Chiefs. No one is saying that he is playing great football right now. The consideration is this... Since people love to drag history around with them as an indicator of something... this QB could just get a lot better with this team over time.. just as he did before. He was elevating his play nicely as the 49ers' offense was finding itself.

How much time will it take? Well, we'll just have to see, but he won't be given more than another year to truly make Reid and Dorsey comfortable. Like stated before, the rest of this year is an audition of sorts. Sure, he will probably be your starter going into 2014. But if he is playing underwhelming football through 2013? KC will bring in someone that appears to have more of a future. They could do so regardless of how he plays, as he is approaching 30, and you never know about injuries.

In the meantime, I don't see why people can't simply enjoy the ride WHILE ALSO cutting him some slack. I mean, it isn't every QB that can walk onto a new team full of players learning a new scheme... and just dominate. It does take time.. but as the 49ers' 2011 season shows.. there can be a lot of success until everything clicks into place too.

So Alex could be back to being a mediocre QB by the time he's 31? GREAT!

Sign seasoned vet - needs more time/weapons/patience for embarrassing gaffes

Makes perfect sense

Don't you know that everyone wanted to run Trent Green out of KC after one season? Give Alex some time! New system and stuff + Bowe sux.

Yep. But that would have been too easy. And who are we to deny SF multiple draft picks?
