Legal aliens? Do you mean actual legal guest workers? People who have entered legally with a work visa? We have quite a few working for my company in exactly that role. But, I do not consider them aliens though they are to the US. I'm not hot on the "alien" word but the millions here illegally are certainly not "migrant guest workers". I call them illegal immigrants. They are here illegally and no play on words can change that.

I also believe that the changing of terms (or the PC'ing of the terms) is bent on future acceptance/amnesty of them. If we call them guest workers long enough then maybe the entire populace will see them that way and not try to enforce our borders or hold them accountable for entering the US illegally.

I think the populace will start seeing them that way when they actually become that way.

You people are horrible. You can sit there in your nice legal house, with your nice legal job and complain about these guest workers all you want. Like I said, it's easy for you.

Put yourself in their shoes: if you could enter a better country in a non legally participatory way in order to better your life and the lives of your children, you would.

You're nothing but a bunch of hypocrites.

We can only hope. That will be a great day of realization of the truth.

Not a hypocrit, just a horribly legal AMERICAN!

A little off topic, but I was absolutely floored the other day when I saw an all spanish ad on a local TV (non-spanish) channel. I guess I shouldn't be too shocked though. They're freaking taking over Vegas now. There are whole sections of town that are all Mexican, businesses, signs, everything. And they're all wearing or displaying their Mexican green, white, and red colors. If you have so much pride for Mexico, why not live there? Oh yeah, you're trying to make America "Mexico north".

Again, you're making a racial issue out of an issue that isn't necessarily racial. Illegal aliens can come from Great Britain just as much as they can come from Mexico.

And people DO want them here. The US has ALWAYS been a nation of immigrants. It's how our population has always grown and it's how our economy thrives. And they provide more money to the US, in terms of business production and some form of payroll tax (even if they don't pay federal income tax, most illegal aliens pay some sort of tax) and taxes on goods bought here. Illegals make up about 8.8% of the people on welfare, compared to 7.9% of American citizens, so it's not a HUGE difference.

But it's the principal. They need to follow the laws.

And that is STILL getting away from the point that the term "alien" is correctly applied in reference to ANYONE from ANY COUNTRY that is non-native to the United States.

Ya, the best part of that would watching their terrified faces when INS shows up, and having to explain that the whole family was forced to brieak the law and become criminals...because the citizens of their homeland can't seem to create a decent standard of livng in the 21st century?

You mean "Las Vegas?" Hmmm, that sounds suspiciously like a Spanish city...

Oh no you don't. Don't you insult me or mine or anyone else by saying we would stoop so low as to be illegals. My family and those of the majority of Americans came into this country through the front door.
Don't you lump us in with those who don't have the integrity, drive, or pride to do so.

I fail to see where I mentioned race at all in the post you quoted. I'm well aware that non legally participating migrant guest workers come from all over.

Hey, I'm all for a blanket legalization of those that are here. We need to get everyone into the system.

But at the same time, we must tighten border security. Not to keep immigrants out, but to keep out those who wish to do this country harm. Unfortunately for those who wish to come here freely and have no ill-will, this hurts them. But sorry, Charlie. This country won't be around for them to enjoy the benefits if we don't take some measures to protect who comes in.

It's an absolute catch-22.
