Herm being fired is official.

Shanahan is not yet. ESPN News saying that Chiefs and Shanny are "near a deal."

Jack Harry calling Schefter out on 810...

Jack says this has been going on for weeks.

If you don't have your TV on ESPN News, I would turn it on. Sounds like this is going to be talked about in depth

The updated report on ESPN.com:

Edwards fired by Chiefs

KANSAS CITY -- Kansas City Chiefs coach Herm Edwards was fired Friday, a well-placed source told ESPN.

Edwards was 15-33 in three seasons with the Chiefs, including 2-14 this season.

The Chiefs have been in negotiations to land Mike Shanahan as their next coach and a deal is near, league sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Edwards' status has been in doubt since the Chiefs hired Scott Pioli as their general manager on Jan. 13. Asked at his introductory news conference about Edwards' status, Pioli declined to say.

He was 41-44 in five seasons as head coach of the New York Jets, including three trips to the playoffs.

Edwards came to Kansas City from the Jets and made the playoffs in his first season,w hen the team was 9-7. But he was under fire after the team finished 4-12 in 2007. Team management gave him its support, but expected a run at the playoffs. Instead, the team went 2-14, leaving Edwards' fate up in the air.

As much as it pains me to say this, he deserves to. Jack totally pwned Schef.

Unbelievable.

on a side note, a real benefit of hiring Shannarat is that he already has a working knowledge of our players from coaching against us.

when he was preparing for the game against us, who better to know which of our players suck and how they suck.

One of your best articles was about why Shanny would be a good fit in KC ... I wonder if LJ is going to be around ...

Jerm 01-23-2009 04:42 PM

First Schefter says we're not getting Pioli, then he tried to squash all the Shanny rumors.

Pioli and Clark have owned his ass.

Schefter friggin' sucks.
