Ayers is a good pick. Moreno was bad. They get a C so far.

They actually got an impact player and someone that can take the pressure off their QB. We got a glorified under-tackle 7 picks higher.

As bad as the Denver offseason has gone, I'd take it over ours.

Let's not lose our heads here. We threw away a pro bowl QB and you may have gotten a franchise QB. You could have just given the pick to Denver for nothing and still would have had a better off season.

Because you are under the mistaken assumption

Dude, Ayers would get MAULED as a 2-gap, 5-technique tackle. He would be used as a tackle in certain passing situations, which is not uncommon for DEs to play.

It is highly doubtful that the two will play the same position. Jackson has almost 30 pounds on Ayers.

In a world where sacks were the only thing that matters, then yes, you may have a point. Jackson is far safer and he plays a position that most 3-4 nuts would argue has a much greater impact.

This really isnt a bad pick by the Donks considering Moreno is a good HB. But they needed to go defense instead.

he's not good. Slow and stupid.

Are you serious?

Ayers will probably play 3-4 OLB. Jackson will play 3-4 DE. Completely different positions.

Ayers was thought all along to be one of three Broncos targets on defense, along with LSU defensive end Tyson Jackson (No. 3, Kansas City) and Boston College defensive tackle B.J. Raji (No. 9, Green Bay).

The Broncos were looking for a stout, pass-rushing defensive end for their new 3-4 defense. Ayers recorded three sacks and 14 tackles for losses in 2008.

Ayers could play either 5-technique defensive end or pass-rush outside linebacker.

Ayers appeared in nine games as a redshirt freshman in 2005, but was suspended from the team after being charged with aggravated assault. Charges were later reduced to misdemeanor assault.

Ayers became a fulltime starter in 2008, and broke through for 49 tackles, 15.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks.

He was a first-team all-SEC selection by the league's coaches and second-Team by the Associated Press as a senior. Named the Senior Bowl's outstanding defensive player after making three tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Ayers is athletic and versatile. He could stand to add some upper body strength.

But he was awesome in 2008.

I guess McDaniels is counting on the man rather than the teenager.

McDaniels brings this Patriot Way bullshit to Denver, but winds up taking a lazy guy with a questionable work ethic.

I understand the good things Ayers brings to the table, but don't spin this like Denver is on the right track. This is the worst offseason since Red Miller became head coach.

Yeah, but you don't see the problem with the last comment?

"He's athletic and versatile. He could stand to add some upper body strength." A 3-4 OLB needs the former, a 3-4 DE needs the latter. If he plays any snaps as a 5-technique, it's only to add a wrinkle. But make no mistake that the majority of his snaps will likely be in the 3-4 OLB.

C'mon, man. Many draftniks claim that he was undersized as a 4-3 DE. You really think he's going to have the size to then play a position that many claim is more similar to a defensive tackle?

Who should they have taken? Brown, Maualuga, Matthews maybe?

They're all still there. Eight more teams (and counting) have said "so what."

NO running back should be a top 20 prospect in the draft unless he's a once-or-twice-a-decade talent like Adrian Peterson.

I wouldn't go overboard here, the Chargers haven't drafted well the last few years.

They've done pretty well in the 1st though.

Go over to Draft Planet and read up.

Ayers might be one of THE most over-hyped guys in the 1st round.

listopencil 04-25-2009 05:17 PM

If I had been standing next to our Owner/Coach/GM when they announced this pick I would have punched any one of them in the throat. Then, after they fell to the floor, pissed in their eye.

So...no...I'm not happy with us picking a RB first overall.

They should have taken Orkapo at 12 and Maclin at 18.

orange 04-25-2009 05:31 PM

I'm going to go on record here - save this post for future reference.

Ayers will be much better than Longbust Orakpo.

and Moreno will be better than Maclin (both pretty good).
