Take $50M (let's say) and go get your butt handed to you with the Panthers... or, stay at Stanford - possibly get hurt - or possibly win the Heisman and a National Title - either way still likely the #1 pick in 2012.
You walk away with your degree and still a boat load of guaranteed money. If it's even 1/2 the money he leaves on the table now - does it really matter in the grand scheme of things?
Either way, the kid is smart and will have a good quality of life.
