Got it!

Josh Looney @JoshLooney
@mr_tomahawk Orton's contract does not expire until 3/13. Teams may talk to players they have under contract.

I think he could be a late bloomer that understands the game now lilke Gannon, Green, Warner, etc.

I agree. Maybe not the Warner part, but for for the "we just need a Qb like Green" crowd, I think Orton could be that guy.

Mike McCarthy seemed to be very fond of the guy, so that's a pretty damn good endorsement.

For me it's one question. I think we can win the division with either one at qb.

Which one can win a playoff game or two?

I don't see anyway Cassel could beat a playoff team.

Sign him!!

Warner would be ideal... the other two not bad. Point is, Warner toiled around in the Arena and European League for a few years before busting out. Orton looks far more like a guy ready to bust out than a QB who has leveled out as just another guy.

The replacement receivers had injury issues. Then they brought in the living legand with a 1st round draft pick, and were pressured into a QB controversy that everyone pretty much knew was going to go Tebows way.

My guess is Orton is better than everyone gives him credit for being. He sort of showed that here, without the benifit of even playing with our offense before. And he probably has a serious chip on his shoulder about being replaced by a FB/TE.

Cutler is good, but not all world. And Chicago gave up multiple first round picks AND Orton for him. That was viewed as a fair trade. Orton is yet another in a long line of journeyman QBs/career back ups (not calling him a career backup) that this team brings in. The biggest argument for why we should keep him is because he is better than Cassel. That is not a strong endorsement. This team needs to move in another direction. Keeping Orton continues the process that has failed this organization for over 40 years now. We need to demand more from the organization, not be content with continuing what has not worked for over 40 years.

Been a Chiefs fan since the 60's. Know all about it. You can find many post here with me wanting to trade up for Luck. And you will find quite a few posts here with me advocating RGIII. Manning? Yep! I'd take him too! Reality says we are not getting any of these three.

Tannehill? Don't know what to think there, but I do think he is a project at best.

So short term, Orton is fine by me, given we won't/can't get any of the first three options.

Plus, I am not convinced Orton might not turn out to be a real NFL QB. And I am convinced Cassel won't.

I understand your point, and it is not that I have any issues with Orton. I have issues with the perpetual system that has plagued this team for longer than I have been alive. If we don't stop now, when will we? It will keep going on and on etc... Once Orton is done, or if he becomes Cassel part deux, we will wash, rinse, repeat. If anything keeping Orton will cause us to do better next year, but not good enough to actually win a playoff game or win the SB, thusly hurting our chances at getting a good QB next year. I would rather try to trade up for Luck or RGIII and if that fails (which it probably will) then take a chance on someone else. What do we really have to lose? It is not like we are a perrenial power right now as is nor do we have the potential of becoming one with our options under center.
