They're the ****in' dults that decided to keep around a royalty in really namesake only as very little is in their power compared to the PM and parliament that does the day to day governing. Wasteful spending is a subjective term when you're already talking about designating public money to prop up some blueblood families merely for the sake of tradition and to create a media buzz for the masses to gawk in this pedigree celebrity.
I got no beef with them keeping the royal family intact, just don't see how you can then decide to want to "audit" their expenses given the triviality to start with. If the problem is the amount then restrict it to a set amount and don't allow for it to balloon - put the Queen and her relatives on a hard salary cap and they can quibble over the distribution.
