Okay that's a first for me. I've never seen an ump rub both ears of a pitcher checking for a foreign substance.

They are very shiny ears to be fair. But it's not like he's touched them even 1 time unlike the dude who had his hair checked when he was going through it before every single pitch.

Yep. Have watched like 2 plays of Ravens Bengals love post season baseball. MLB is ruining it though, following all the other sports where about half the teams get in.

The umpires hand the Mets a walk to leadoff the 7th on a Musgrove strikeout. They're trying.

Mets trying to ruin a perfect NYC sports day.

Musgrove isn’t bothered.

Mariners Padres would be the perfect World Series.

Not sure it's all really his fault, but for all the people who say managers don't matter, Buck Showalter basically wins wherever he goes.

But then his teams flame out completely in the playoffs. He still only has one playoff series win and 10 playoff wins total. Ned Yost won more playoff games in a single year two different times.

Managers definitely matter. See Jays/Mariners yesterday with John Schneider needlessly pulling one of his top starters with a 8-1 lead. Or to use a Buck Showalter in the playoffs example, the Jays/Orioles WC game in 2016 when he incredibly used Ubaldo Jimenez instead of Zach Britton (the best RP in the league that year) with the season on the line, ending in hilarious fashion.

I don't think it's particularly hard to be a good strategic manager in baseball but sometimes these guys really make it look difficult.

I'm so outta touch with playoff baseball, and the wildcard expanding to more teams. It could have made that epic win by the Royals in '14 null and void.

But speaking of Musgrove,he damn sure did have some spin on his pitches tonight. It seems like almost every pitcher i watched this year had some kind of substance on the bill of their cap,and they would always touch it before throwing a pitch.Anyone else notice that ? To me it looked obvious, but the umps only look at their hand.

The shit you see on a guys hat isn't illegal. It's just dirt from the constant licking of fingers, picking up the rosin bag, and touching the same spot on the hat. And they checked his hat, glove, hands, and ears.
