There's more to it than this. Ortiz is the face of the 2000s-10s Red Sox, the face of the 2004 comeback, the man who declared this is our ****ing city. The writers liked him and gave him a pass. "The politics of glory" as Bill James once appropriately remarked.

Bud selig hiring a Red Sox guy to lead up the steroids investigation then to conveniently leave off names from their World Series runs is a stain on the stain.

They knew what they did was wrong. They have nobody to blame but themselves.

I agree with that. And Pete rose and shoeless Joe too. Because throwing games is even worse.

If there’s ever an unconscionable snub it’s curt schilling who is a borderline HOFer but is also probably blackballed for personal beliefs
