I understand that part. But say the ball gets spotted somewhere inbetween two yard marks. The post gets put down roughly the same between the yard marks but is it exact?

Then the other part, they move the chains. Aren't they also moving that spot on the chain for this next set of downs? Who knows if they get the exact link in the exact place when all of a sudden the spot is challenged and they have to move the chains back?

There is a clip-on circle that goes on a yard-line. You maintain that marker until the chains move. They re-clip to match a yardage line when they move the down markers. See like the orange circle in the middle of this set:

Right. Like I said. They have to move that clip when they move the chains. So how long do they wait to move the clip? They move the chains, then move the clip and then move the chains back to remeasure? It doesn't happen a lot but enough times I've wondered about the mechanics of it.

Two clips per set in the NFL. The clips have a yard marker dial on them to keep track of what yard line they are placed to the backside of. One of the guys on the gang is solely responsible for just maintaining the clips and recording the yardage for each series of downs. The 2nd clip is removed only after the 1st play of the new series is run.

Why does it even have to be a quarterback? Dontari Poe is probably just sitting around eating barbecue.

Put linemen back there at qb and the tush pushers they could score from the 5.

I can remember very specifically getting ****ed hard on spots in at least one of the Super Bowls or postseason games...maybe against the 49ers, Eagles or Bengals....can't remember which game it was but we were getting screwed all day.

This will come back to bite our opponents in the ass just like the overtime rules. If the 49ers could have won the last Super Bowl against us by going for it on 4th down on the first drive of OT, they absolutely do instead of giving Mahomes any chance to win the game with a TD.

And none of that will change with this.
