That said, the R-W mainframe is really where we could get the p-rating up to a faster clip. I historically have steered clear of anything with a semi static Vector rating below 12 on the Tinson Scale, but the newest model has me rethinking that a bit.

Anyways, that’s my two cents.

If they increase the transistor modules and reverse the amps going to the mainframe couplet, you can probably get a lot faster speeds.

No doubt. Seems like these guys should have figured that out, but lucky for them they have us to weigh in on the situation.

DaFace 08-16-2019 07:11 AM

I will say my Tapatalk is doing some weird stuff this week after the app upgraded. The post count on threads is all wonky, so it looks like I'm at the end, but then if I force it to reload, there are more posts. I've also seen stuff showing up out of order. It's not related to anything on the CP end, but I wonder if it's related to Groves's issue.

Groves 08-16-2019 08:30 AM

My issue was local stupidity, I believe it to be solved now.

I think that fix to the Flux Capacitor really helped.

Also it probably helped a little that you turned the power switch off and on a few times....

Doing some upgrades to the software and tweaking some settings now. If that doesn't significantly help then a server with NVMe drives will be next step to look into further.

No idea what server hardware you're running, but assuming you don't have M.2 slots? Considered PCIe NVMe adapters? If your case supports full-sized cards, something like this should work...

https://www.newegg.com/asus-model-hy...-043-_-Product

Four 500GB Samsung EVO 970 or WD Black for ~$100 ea (personal preference for Samsung due to OPAL/TCG SED and performance) and you're looking at less than $500 for 1TB usable at RAID 10. I have no knowledge of the reliability of those adapters, but they look promising for introducing NVMe to older hardware. Looks like there are some half-height models as well using the U.2 interface.

I have a few more software tricks we can try before looking at hardware. This next preseason game should be a good test.

Based on last night's game thread I doubt there will be enough traffic to gauge! Definitely seems faster than it has been recently though, thanks!

How many people really prefer keeping the old software if it's going to keep running like this?

It's not just a new GUI. When I looked into this, there was a high probability of at least some loss of data, that means our history. Rep would be zeroed out. etc.

This site is like a shoe that fits you perfectly. Maybe eventually it wears out and you have to get a new one. But, most at least at first will hate the new GUI/shoe, traffic will go down. Would that love of the new shoe ever recover to current levels? There is a risk of never recovering to the level of love with the new shoes/GUI.

Sooo, you’re saying there is a potential to lose some of the idiots around here? Where do I sign up?

Truthfully though, rep isn’t important and anyone who thinks so has their priorities all wrong. The loss of history would suck but a) Daface was talking about the possibility of an off site archive so it would still exist and, b) King’s point is valid - what good does any of it do if you cannot access it easily or at all?

I do like/am completely comfortable with our current format but, if a change is deemed necessary I will not be amongst those opposing it.

Yeah, CP is flying for me today. DEFINITE improvement.

I logged in last night without even noticing your "CP is down" notice. I was in the lounge and saw nobody had posted for like 4 hours, and I was afraid I was about to destroy everything by being logged in, haha.

I'm tweaking things here and there this morning, and the new setup seems to bog down for a bit after a mysql restart, so sorry for the lag. Should be largely stable in 5-10 minutes.

RealSNR 08-24-2019 11:28 AM

I wonder why when tweaks need to be made to CP, it gets done in a pretty efficient timeframe such that I'll bet much of the community barely noticed, and yet Taco has to shut the Orange Mane down for an entire week and the upgrade looks like those shitty free Angelfire BBs you could sign up for back in the day.

I don't know how their desktop upgrade looks like but I like their mobile upgrade. At least you can see pictures on it.

Edit: just switched to desktop mode to see. Both of their modes are basically the same. I think we should do that too. Phones have come a long way from when you needed to have an ultra stripped down mobile version like CP has.

I'm always amazed by that as well. Tapatalk has its flaws, but overall it works great for me. And if that doesn't work, the desktop site is at least usable on my phone.

Raiderhater 08-24-2019 12:34 PM

I stopped using Tapatalk for this place because it would skip posts in large threads. I would see posts quoted that were not showing up as the original posts in the thread. So I went to just pulling up the full site in my browser. To hell with the mobile site crap.

Eh, I get it, but if CP had its own app, would you use it then? That's how I think of it.

It works great about 90% of the time, but they do have a tendency of releasing updates now and then that screw stuff up.

Just edit the default text size in the settings. You can do that for any mobile browser. In Android, it has a little bar you can adjust to make the text however you want. Additionally you can double click the screen to quickly zoom in.

Needs to just bite the bullet and completely upgrade. VB is out of date. Php is out of date. I would guess MySQL is out of date.

If people leave because rep is no longer a thing then they were shit posters we don’t want to begin with.

I would recommend going to Xenforo over new VB.
