Starting to look like Viewsonic is dropping support for the device.

doesn't look like thats true, just that they are slow to address issues and that the next update isn't until May

Lot's of discussions going on. Lots of users contacting VS, Nvidia through twitter/facebook and CS about their dissatisfaction concerning these rumors.

Here a member says that honeycomb may be coming to the GTab.

A couple of jealous douchebag mods were saying he was trying profit off the noob users. Enticing them to donate to him. He was nothing but helpful to me. In fact he was the most helpful. There were quite a few that I thought were annoyed that the site had an influx of users after the Woot sale.

He is supposed to go to slatedroid or something like that. I think I will send him a pm to verify.

combine the nook app from market with this site and you will have books forever

good shit

007 04-13-2011 09:36 PM

I really liked the VEGAn 7.0.0 ROM but it had just enough lockups and it also lacks video acceleration. It will be THE kick ass ROM when they get the kinks worked out though.

Back on Vegan 5.1.1 at this point.

I haven't received a notice that there is a new firmware. Did it just pop up on yours or did you have to force the update?

KCFalcon59 04-15-2011 11:27 AM

You will if you are on stock, I believe. I haven't received notification on my rooted gtab, but I did on the 2nd one I got for the kids yesterday. Set up wireless and got notified right away. Went from 3389>3588>4349.

You will have to nvflash back to stock to receive the updates. It is a nice update but you lose more going to it than sticking with the modded firmwares. Roebeet will be releasing a new mod this weekend that uses the new updated firmware called twotapsx

Though I do agree with you on a small level, they are entirely too strict with him on the XDA site.

That being said, I do prefer VEGAn over TNT Lite right now. I'll be interested to see what TwoTapsX looks like.

Boy, get the Skinomi screen protector for this thing. Great product. Just be sure to wait at least 16 hours after installing it before you use your gtablet.

Jumped on the CM7 bandwagon. Figured since I jumped on CM7 for the EVO, may as well stay within the family. So far this thing in rocking.

I downloaded an application called MultiPicture Live Wallpaper (available in app store). It allows me to select an image for each individual slide.

I modified them to a 1024x600 resolution which is the proper resolution for the gtab.

Will it still play video smoothly. Some of his creations don't have the hardware drivers to support the video ouput needed.

EDIT - Oh, also, does it have the dedicated video folder that VEGAn 5.1.1 has?

I'm not having any issues with video playback. Granted I haven't played much video yet.

No dedicated video folder. It has a media folder with an audio subfolder. Can't you just create a video subfolder in the media folder?

I haven't found any way to get a video folder on the "desktop" at all on most of his builds. VEGAn seems to be the only one that does that for some reason. I know I can just go to ifile but it is really dumb to have to do that when it should be one click access.

Yep, updated it right after that post. Only bummer so far about the cm7 rom is the Google reader app is broken for tablets. Seems like no matter the rom, if tons of stuff is running, my tab wont wake up and reboot instead.

If you plan to Root it/ Hack it /Mod it - yes one of the best on the market to do such things

If thats not you're bag - there are better options

It is worth every penny, as slag said, if you plan on rooting it and playing with the different roms that are available. Just plain out of the box? Not so much.

Also, take into consideration that ViewSonic has pretty much abandoned all support for this product. Don't expect any firmware or OS updates. If you can deal with that, it's a heck of a deal. I enjoy mine.

blazzin311 06-06-2011 01:37 PM

Is rooting it or modding it out a difficult process. Something that I'd be able to do myself or would I have to take it somewhere to do such. I mean it looks like a nice machine and it seems many of you enjoy yours after modding them. Also I read a few reviews on them and some people have complained about the viewing angle no being so good on them....is it really as bad as they say, or not so much?

ragedogg69 06-06-2011 02:12 PM

I wont lie. the view angle sucks balls. But it is not a deal breaker for me. The modding community has done a superb job of supporting the device when viewsonic hasnt. Using clockwork mod, very little can go wrong when you mod your Gtablet.

The only other tablet i would consider is the asus because of the keyboard dongle.

blazzin311 06-06-2011 02:43 PM

Good to know all this stuff....all great input from you guys has inspired me to go ahead with the purchase of one of these. When I get it I'll probably be referring back here when it comes to modding/ rooting it since I'm unfamiliar as to how its done. However it doesn't sound too difficult a process.

It runs smoother but the apps that demand a lot of CPU still tend to slow down.
