Precisely. Unless there is something in a contract, I expect anyone that knew and covered it up to be gone after the season at the latest. That might not mean Paterno and the position coach. The public opinion will take care of the that.

Hootie was banned after being given very specific instructions not to violate a trust and reveal personal details shared in confidence... He was told very clearly that he would be banned if he did so. He did it anyway and was banned. He was allowed back a few weeks ago with the understanding he was on a short leash. I don't know how JoePa isn't being charged with perjury like the other two guys. I can only assume that he didn't testify to the "Mike McQueary didn't tell me he saw Sandusky actually having sex with a boy" story he told in his public statement, and that's why he's not being charged.

But that would mean he said one thing to the grand jury and is saying something else in public. Which would be so monumentally stupid that it would defy all logic. And it'll force the DA to expose him as a liar if they plan on bringing the perjury charges against the other two.

It is sad that this will tarnish his image, but there are certain acts or in this case lack of action that tend to taint the perception people have of you more than others. Perpetuating the access of a molester to kids on the campus where no one farts without your permission is one of those acts.

Another bizarre twist: Ray Gricar, the Centre County district attorney at the time of the 1998 investigation into Victim 6's allegations, has been missing since 2005 and was declared legally dead in July of this year. We may never know why Gricar did not press charges against Sandusky, despite Sandusky's admissions—per the grand jury report—that he had showered naked with the boy and hugged him.

The hard drive from Gricar's computer turned up on the banks of the Susquehanna River six months after his disappearance, according to this story Granim wrote three years ago, when she was still at the State College, Pa.-based Centre County Daily Times. Whatever was on that hard drive will forever be the subject of speculation now.

When I lived in Houston Kailee Wong (former Texans player) was on the morning radio, doing a show. He said that a Penn State guy he played with told him Joe Paterno used to shower with the players. This was like 5 years ago. Back then they talked about it like was a goof. Like a weird old man story or something. But it's strange now that all this stuff comes out.
Not that I think Paterno was doing anything sexual; just that it makes it seem somehow more odd now than then.

I was talking about my friend about this. What if the silence was because there were others who did not necessarily have a problem with man/boy interaction. What if the foundation was a means of recruiting victims. What about the families of the victims. What were they promised or given for their silence. Are they on scholarship at Penn, did they make a team, why wouldn't they go to the police?

The possible implications are mind boggling. Not sayin this happened.

Exclusive: Victims Double In Penn State Case

Updated: Tuesday, 08 Nov 2011, 6:50 PM EST
Published : Tuesday, 08 Nov 2011, 5:17 PM EST

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Fox 29 has learned the number of child-abuse in the Penn State sex-abuse scandal involving ex-coach Jerry Sandusky has more than doubled in the past day, and is closer to 20 victims.

Slideshows: Rally At JoePa's Home | Coach Mobbed By Reporters

There were eight victims named in the grand jury presentment and 40 charges leveled against Sandusky, a long-time assistant to Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno. Paterno was not named in the grand jury finding as violating any laws.

Sources tell Fox 29 since a press conference on Monday, the number of potential victims has more than doubled in the case.

Sandusky was arrested in the case and made bail, while two Penn State administrators face charges related to how an alleged crime was reported in the case to police and investigators.

On Monday, state officials publicized two phone numbers for past victims to call, and within a day, it seems investigators have new leads.

Also on Monday, Pennsylvania state attorney general Linda Kelly said the Sandusky case was consideried an on-going investigation and more charges could be coming.

Sandusky is charged with sexually abusing at least eight young boys he met through The Second Mile, a charity he founded in the late 1970s.

A preliminary hearing set for Wednesday was postponed until December 7th.

On Monday, Joe Paterno spoke briefly with reporters.

“I know you guys have a lot of questions and I was hoping I was going to be able to answer them today,” Paterno said outside his State College house. “But we’ll try to do it soon, as soon as we can. I can’t do it today.”

Joe Paterno's son told Fox 29 earlier that a New York Times report his father is leaving as Penn State's football coach isn't true.

Scott Paterno spoke with Fox 29 one hour after Penn State officials cancelled a scheduled press conference with Joe Paterno.

The New York Times reported after the cancelled conference that two sources told it that Penn State officials were negotiating Paterno's exit as football coach, perhaps within days, in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal.

Scott Paterno called that report "fiction."

“There are no negotiations between us,” Scott Paterno said. “The New York Times report, you got to get the sources from them. ... The university has not in anyway shape or form indicated or contacted us about any type of retirement agreement, that is all fiction at this point."

“As of now, he’ll be coaching on Saturday and he’s getting ready for practice.”

Scott Paterno said father could be meeting with the press in the next day.

"The press conference was called off by the university, we are looking to arrange for another press availability at some point in the next 24 hours. When we have that arranged we will let everyone know."

“The coach did in fact want to answer questions about it and he will,” Paterno said.

“I can’t speak to what’s being discussed elsewhere but I can tell you at this point in time, there has been no discussions with the coach about retiring, there have been no discussions with the coach about stepping down, and as far as he’s concerned, he will be coaching the team on Saturday, and he’s looking forward to it.”

Scott Paterno also said he was speaking for the Paterno family, and not the university.

The school said in statement that it cancelled Paterno's weekly press conference due to the ongoing investigation into sex-abuse claims by former coach Sandusky.

"Due to the ongoing legal circumstances centered around the recent allegations and charges, we have determined that

I don't fault him for that. He's old, but he's still a good coach. Penn State isn't a powerhouse, but they've fielded some very competitive football teams of late.

I don't think he's a narcissist. I think he has too much pride in his school. He's so concerned about protecting the reputation of the school that he's willing to let something like this slide. It's a shame--he's done so many good things for the program and for college football, and all of that is thrown away because he made one ENORMOUS lapse in judgment. His legacy is tainted, as it should be.

Back to your concerns about the dude that reported the shower room incident and wheter he should have went beyond the reporting of it to Paterno, he was a GA at the time. Perhaps he was rewarded to keep his mouth shut with an assistant coaching job

I think that's an interesting possibility. But that's one thing nobody will ever know for sure. On the flip side, don't know if he was threatened to keep his mouth shut either.

I do question why he didn't refuse to leave the program.

I would like to see Paterno suspended during this time of supposed researching the situation. Truely believe that it would be the right thing to do

FAX

As it should be. He failed in his duty as a human.

The more I hear about this the more I get pissed off at the shear amount of stupidity/arrogance involved here. JoePa is looking worse and worse in all of this with his stupid comments and there arent enough shrinks in the world for all the Penn State/JoePa apologists out there.

My son is 10. This stuff makes me sick. I also know, after thinking about the way these boys were treated, that I am capable of taking a human life. The more I read about this, the more it sickens me. So far 20 (?) young men have come forward? I bet that GA has been thinking about it every day, knowing that he could've done more.

You still have to wonder. What did Joe know and when?

I cannot see how they allow JoePope and McQueery on the field on Saturday. As if their continued presence in the Penn State program was not a slap in the face enough when the victims knew of their involvement (or lack their of) in suffering silence. But now it's in the open and they are openly telling the victims their suffering is secondary to football. It's really surreal.

SuperChief 11-09-2011 09:22 AM

My question is this: why is this going down at Penn State? Who do they think they are, Notre Dame??

It's not often you will find me in agreement with mememe.

'Tis a sad day indeed.
