Funny as hell the other day when local radio said Haley's agent had contacted Arizona State to express interest in their HC job and ASU told him "thanks but no thanks".

Let's say you get hired as a manager
of a store. You go in all excited. Then you find out the store ownership isn't spending enough money to let you hire quality employees, and you're stuck with halfwits and malcontents you have to try to run a business with. Then you find out that the Regional Manager overrides you on all decisions. You find yourself a puppet in between ineffective and miserly Upper Management, and the Regional Manager who micromanages and controls. You realize you're not doing a whole lot creatively except trying to control the minimum-wage employees. So you check out mentally. Can't really blame the guy if that's how it went down. (And if you get fired by said company, but realize that other companies in the same area will probably hire you in time and give you another shot, you'd probably be relieved and well-rested and better-appearing too. In his view, he was freed, not fired.)

Sounds like my job. To a T. No wonder myself and colleagues in positions of management are all unhappy.

memyselfI 12-16-2011 02:12 PM

Didn't get to listen much but Danny Parkins was going off on Haley's performance last night and how it was a soap opera. He thought Haley was unprofessional and did a disservice to himself and the Chiefs. :hmmm:

First of all, he was far from unprofessional in the clips I've heard so far.

Second, he CANNOT do a disservice to the Chiefs - they fired him. Get over it.

I thought he was kind of catty when it was about him but otherwise did a good job. I don't think he did himself any favors as far as potential employers as a head coach. Perhaps as a TV analyst he did.

No. When in doubt, always blame the guy on top. Especially since he made the hire.

I don't think Haley was a poor fit for the team. I just think Pioli is so close-minded that he thinks there is only one way to do things. Here's what we do know. In almost every single way, Pioli did things exactly as he did in New England. Closed door policy, coaches saying nothing, secrecy, etc.... Same exact 2-gap defense, same Charlie Weis offense, same focus on role players/leaders/cheapness, and a bunch of players who played for the Patriots (including Cassel, the most important guy on the field).

Pioli's the boss. But this entire team model reeks of Pioli. And the biggest mistakes in personnel, apart from Palko, are owned by Pioli. When a guy gets his way all the time, he's the guy most at fault. You can say Haley needed to be tougher in fighting off Pioli, but I think that's a tough battle to win.

Well said, and I agree. But to finish the point, it is also Pioli's first time of being in this position, and I feel Clark has pointed out to him how he has ****ed up, and what he needs to change. The locked doors coming unlocked I think is a good example of that.

Of course, I have always been a glass half full kind of person. Hopefully he starts doing things right, sooner than later.

He mistakenly said "we" twice when referring to the Chiefs. He still views himself as a member of this team subconsciously.

I wonder what the relationship between Haley and Pioli would be like in the alternate universe where Denver and Josh McDaniels acquired Cassel instead of us.

The same, most likely.

Cassel doesn't make Haley any more or less of an idiot than he already is.

That's a list that kinda disproves your statement, buddy.

Yeah, and the endless list of used up receivers that were ran through KC the the previous two years. It was almost comical and like no other position mattered, but they have a fine group of receivers now.

Cassel makes you stand pretty much no chance unless your comming off an 18-1 season and you have a damned good defense, ooh but you still fail to make the play offs.

once you get no qb, your doomed to fail.

whoman69 12-16-2011 03:31 PM

I've seen it. Somebody please tell me where he threw the Chiefs organization under the bus. Worse thing he said all night was that the 49ers are last year's Chiefs. He did ask the other people on the panel whether they believed he should be fired, which they saved him from by saying they would answer off camera. Herm threw his coaches and players under the bus every week.

The biggest statement of the night was from Keyshon, a former player of his, who stated that if Todd had a QB, he would not be on the panel.

The simple fact is that he slipped up TWICE and referred to HIMSELF as a member of the Chiefs.

So if he was throwing the Chiefs under the bus, he was throwing himself under there with them.

I didn't even take that 49ers comment to be a knock against the Chiefs. I took it to mean that there's a team who was crap the previous year which came out of nowhere to be the surprise team that was winning a division.

Although it should be pointed out that everyone using the QB issue as an excuse for Haley should look at the job Harbaugh is doing with a QB who got two other head coaches fired...

Oh, and I wonder why McDaniels is rumored to be a possibility if Clark stepped in and said no to him last year after what happened in Denver.

The logic is lacking in that argument.

Your logic is lacking on everything, dumbass.

That's my impression too. He looked like he got his ass chewed the **** out. The fact that the Chiefs are lifting some of their secrecy is a positive sign that Pioli's learning that he doesn't walk on water anymore.

Todd Haley, Keyshawn Johnson, Trent Dilfer, and Jerry Rice; which of these don't belong? Here's a hint: three of these guys are has-beens, and the other is a true legend.

Harbaugh is doing a great job of getting the rest of that team to play up to the level of thier talent.

The 9ers have more talent and depth than the Chiefs do at this point, and the Chiefs just can not overcome the lack of depth at some key positions.

But when they get into the playoffs, they will need a QB that can toe ot toe with the likes of Rodger, Brees, and Eli Manning.

Do you believe that Alex Smith is that guy?

2500 yards and 15 touchdowns in 13 games. Epitome of game manager.

He has four 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives this year. He's been able to help carry the team late in games.

The cheap owner shelled out a huge contract, on the recommendation of the Grocery Getter Scott Pioli, and Pioli is still trying to justify it. It can't be that the recommendations of Pioli have been really awful, it's the cheap owner.

Cassel is a garbage QB that went from being on the verge of being cut in training camp to getting 60 million the following off-season. The common denominator is Scott Pioli, not the cheap owner.

If Pioli could hit on a QB, this whole situation would be a lot more "bright eyed".

As soon as anybody starts screaming the issue is Clark is cheap I immediately devalue anything else they have to say.

He is paying Pioli premium $$ to do his job. Haley was making something like $3MM a year. RAC is said ot be making over $1MM as DC and bet Weis was as well.

They gave Cassel $60MM for **** sake. They picked up Orton for $2MM with 6 games left in the season.

Resigned Hali, DJ, and JC.

It's not about what you spend its how you spend it. The issue is where the $ is being spent.

Exactly. TheBadGuy was defending Clark and calling Pioli out. Read between the lines.

I'd say Jerry Rice has the least amount of personality and composure forming sentences and opinions on TV.... so I'd go with him.
