We have the early game, but still late enough to devote the whole damn day to this game.

last time i remember having the early game on Wild-Card Sat, we beat Pit in OT.

just sayin'.

really??

I remember it being dark...like, super dark.

wasn't that the game that was 16-8 for most of it, one score game until the third qtr, when Herm and Solari kept trying to run the ball with that loser Larry johnson, who had chosen that exact moment to hit the ****ing wall??

yeah I don't remember that at all.

that game was an abortion anyway.

This team is hungry for a playoff win. Berry, Flowers, DJ, Bowe, Albert and Charles have been here for years. They lived through the bad times and they want this shit.
Do not think that for one second these guys didn't think about 2010 vs the Ravens, or last year.

Alex Smith is hungry as well. He wants to prove that he can lead a team far.

I fully expect our defense to look the way at did for most of the the game vs the Ravens. They were hungry and played fantastic football. They are going to want to prove themselves. I fully expect Luck to be pressured in the pocket consistently.
I fully expect the offense to play with urgency throughout the entire game much like they did in the first half of both Denver games.

And I also expect Charles to run hard and with authority that we don't usually see. He wants this so bad and I don't blame him.

Indy knows we're not going to be the same team as last time. We aren't turning the ball over a handful of times.

Lets hope Ales doesn't quit like he did last game. Hopefully someone on the chiefs knows Indie sucks against the run.

BradBigglestein 01-02-2014 06:59 PM

Your game is on right before the Eagles game, so I'm going to watch every second to see how Andy Reid does in his first playoff game with another team.

One of my biggest issues with Andy Reid was that his even keel personality hurt the Eagles in playoff games. Never get too high or to low, caused the team to lack that "edge" in playoff games. That is just theoretical. Obviously, I can't prove the mindset of the players.

I thought he coached very conservatively in playoff games, and the players were tight. That could be a number of reasons. The Eagles lost 3 straight NFC Championship Games and when you keep losing, it kind of snowballs and adds tension to a situation that is already pressure packed.

Andy Reid's worst coached game in his career in my opinion, was a playoff game against the Saints several years ago. That one still haunts me, and he made some ridiculous decisions that I thought really helped the Saints.

This is a new team though, that hasn't won a playoff game in a long time, so I suspect they'll be pretty hungry and play a tough game for their new coach.

Should be a good matchup. I look forward to watching. I hope the Chiefs get out of there with a W.

He's 4, but he has literally no interest in any other sports right now but football. Only watches about a quarter of it with me, but when people ask him who he likes he says Eric Berry and the Chiefs.

cdcox 01-03-2014 01:24 AM

I missed the regular season match up due to travel, but just caught the NFL replay version. My concerns:

1. Brandon Albert has to neutralize Mathis. Mathis is having a monster year, so his performance against the Chiefs wasn't some kind of one day fluke. Alex doesn't do well in a dirty pocket.
2. Luck is Manning-like in his ability to neutralize a pass rush. We got good pressure a few times, but Luck handled it. When we did sack him, he didn't lose his cool. Good feet, quick release, sees the field, plus he is tougher to bring down than Manning. We aren't going to see a Luck melt down. Which leaves...
3. Our exposed secondary. There are structural weaknesses here that aren't going to change without different personnel. Luck is going to exploit them. He'll get his 250+ yards.
4. The Colts offense is designed to limit turnovers (13 on the season). We aren't likely to have a significant advantage in turnovers.
5. If it comes down to the last possession of each team, I'll take the better QB. He will also have the refs on his side. Big advantage Colts.

So how do we win?

We have to contain their running game. If we don't, gameover. We must neutralize Mathis. If we don't, gameover. If we achieve both of these, I still expect Luck to win the battle against our defense. We need an advantage to over come Luck. Obviously Jamaal Charles will have to have a big game. Smith will have to manage the heck out of the game.

We aren't their yet. We still need a small miracle. We need our last drive to be better than their last drive. Or we need a late and decisive turnover. Or a couple of scores on defense and/or special teams. Or one of those games where every thing goes our way (when is the last time that happened against a quality opponent on the road?).

We can win, but I don't feel good about it. 2-5 down the stretch makes the odds even longer.

Anyong Bluth 01-03-2014 02:09 AM

In happier news:

Quote:

As Matt Callinan of ESPN points out, the Chiefs are in the top five in the NFL in terms of yards per rush and rushing touchdowns when they rush to the right.

Meanwhile, the Colts defense is in the bottom five defensively in those categories when teams rush to the right of the offensive line.

Chiefs are 0-2 in playoff games where they amass less than 200 total yards of offense. You know...the last 2 playoff disasters.

RunKC 01-03-2014 08:53 AM

The Chiefs played their worst game of the season against the Colts at Arrowhead.

Most turnovers all year at 4.
Most missed tackles on the year with 17.
More blown coverages.

Despite that we were still down by only 6 points at halftime.

We play sound fundamental football and we win this game by double digits.

Luck actually didn't manage the rush well at all. Of course when we blow assignments and miss tackle s that turn into huge gainers, that will happen. I still cannot believe his heave ho hit an open receiver.

There's no doubt we need the offense clicking on all cylinders. We need to weather the storm early instead of crapping our pants like we did in Denver. The first quarter is important in this one. On a side note we also need to wear the red pants. No more white on white in the playoffs!

He was pretty good against Mathis. Stephenson was terrible. So much so that they didn't line Mathis up against the rookie at all in the second half. It got so bad that Stephenson tried to trip him. I'd prefer Fisher in there but either way Mathis will get his.

If Tamba is really hurting I hope they sit him or limit his snaps. The last game he played was against the Colts and he ended up with 2 tackles, 0 sacks and 0 QB hits for the whole damn game. We have to have more production from that position and I saw a lot of back ups last week that are capable of better numbers than 2 freaking tackles. I would take Zombo's stat line from last week of 4 tackles, 1 sack and three QB hits against Indy.

Those were two of the most devastating losses I've ever seen. So yeah, the kid is pretty naïve.

Nothing will ever hurt as bad as the Miami loss with the phantom holding call and kick a few feet too short. A little piece of me died that day.

I do to. I remember all 7 playoff losses like they were yesterday. It will be a miracle if we win this game. Meaning, we hit Luck a bunch and Bowe actually does something. It just doesn't seem possible.

Well, he's not playing so...

Everyone is talking about how the Colts will focus on Jamaal, so someone else will need to step up on offense.
It would be great if Bowe did that.

However, the Colts focus against the Chiefs in week 16 was on Charles also.

He ran the ball 13 times for 106 yards.

The Chiefs can win this game if Charles gets at least 20 carries.

Everything else on offense will feed off the success of Charles.
