Don't need to go down to a 328i for the regular seats. That was just to show you what that look like since those since they are also the standard on the 335 (those without the sport package option). Like you said its at the same place to give you a chance to compare.

Bearcat 02-13-2015 10:57 PM

The BMW dealership is the place where you know the GM? Ask him, maybe he'll try to work out something if they can't find a 335 without sport seats.

Miles 02-13-2015 11:07 PM

Obviously not an interesting example but just to show you such a thing exists:

No, he is KIA. But he's been around for 20+ years as a general manager so he knows a lot of them or use to work for a different brand.

He will be able to hook me up with a BMW dealer.

There ya go. They do exist. That looks like a normal seat. I do have some time to find a 335i with regular seats before I start the commute. And really even longer because there is really nothing wrong with the Mustang.

I'm just going to have to put off the decision until after I get back from training in 2.5 weeks or go to some lots in Austin??

I'm not ready to throw in the towel that there isn't a BMW for me out there.

There should be plenty of 335s out there but might just have to be a little patient and maybe cast a wider net. Your friend may have some suggestions of how to hunt one down.

An Austin example that may be a touch too old but nice color combo.

Update on my insurance costs. Between $100 - $300 a year for the 8 cylinder. So the 8 cylinder is back in the hopper.

Nice. Haven't driven one before but think its best looking of the throwback style muscle cars and sounds great. While its easy to use reason to justify something like the v6 over the v8 for me at least every time I see and hear the v8 I'd think about it. Once the newness wears off the itch will return for what I really wanted.

Think the R/T is the one I was recalling. However looks like they have some crazy new one called the R/T scat pack that has the 6.4 but less expensive than the SRT.

Miles 02-14-2015 12:35 AM

I you want to consider expanding budget a little for something crazy there is a Challenger R/T Scat Pack that has the same 6.4 Hemi from the SRT. Well optioned MSRP on their website is is around 43K at MSRP. 8 speed auto, 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque of madness. 0-60 from the usual magazines is 4.2-4.4ish.

That M5 was nearly $100k new and the engine is still a masterpiece. Though the SMG...

Crazy that a new car can offer that much performance for mid 40s.

The only time I truly see the M5 shining in the SMG version - is in 3rd around 60 MPH - it absolutely rips in that situation.

Like me some more boring colors like black and shades of silver/grey. That dar powder blue M color is a little loud for me but looks nice.

Black metallic is by far my favorite but I like to keep the paint looking good so its rough when every imperfection shows. Current has the metallic black that looks dark blue in certain light that I love even more. Though even touching it wrong with a towel puts in microscratches that I can see but I have gotten better of ignoring it.

Have heard that transmission is a little temperamental to say the least. Forgot you likely have the model that depending on the settings will give you 400hp or 500hp. Hope you have those confusing German settings down now.

Yup I always drive it S500 - 500HP - never mess w/ it at 400.

Nice. Less power shouldn't even be a setting. You are going to get ****ing awful MPG either way so no idea why BMW added that.

Fairly different cars but could see the M4 maybe getting within the ballpark of acceleration of the early V8 model R8 but. Would assume the early model mid engine R8 wouldn't be comparable in handling to the M4. Guilty of checking used R8 prices before and haven't depreciated as much as I would have thought.

I get like 12-14 mpg with 2 less cylinders but have a short commute. Really don't care about the mpg at all but it's mildly annoying with a 15 gallon tank.

Miles 02-14-2015 02:31 AM

If you don't care about having people in your back seat and considering something like an M4 you should really think of Porsche. They really are impressive to drive.

Awesome. Have always wondered what they were like on a real road since they look great and tick all the supercar boxes.

Another I have always wanted to drive since its got the super high revving racing style engine. I'm a big Porsche fan so would be interested in your thoughts if you managed to drive it.

I have driven a few 997 Turbos and a 997.5 Turbo S. With the 997.5 Turbo S it was fast enough to scared as a passenger. Driving it the acceleration was surreal and loved it. 0-60 is like 2.8 sec. ALL of the power gets to the pavement and the PDK takes care of the rest.

Bet a 997.5 Turbo hits every point you would want in a car. Its shocking how fast and kinda scary that 2.8 is.

The first JB4 Charcoal '07 335 tuned was around 3.6 secs 0-60 - seriously - i'm not even joking - that's great pull for $35kish.....

That' pretty damn quick. The madness of the Porsche Turbo is somehow ALL of the power is delivered with none or minimal burning tires.

Challenger R/T Scat Pack may be my final answer but a little more that your budget. Might take a bit of patience to get one but it's priced so well for that insane power for a new car in that range. Though a new 5.7 very likely offers more than enough if you go that route.

Miles 02-14-2015 01:58 PM

I'm not at all brand loyal at all when it comes to cars. BMW tends to check all of the right boxes when it comes to coupes and how they drive makes me like them so much.

kccrow 02-14-2015 02:08 PM

Are you still narrowed in on BMW vs Challenger? I'd at least drive the Lexus RC 350 F and the Cadillac ATS just to be sure. My opinion, but both those cars are damn nice, unless you just don't like the looks.

Well it isn't a car but my buddy took me for a ride in his 2013 GMC 2500HD with the Duramx in it last night..he has done a ton of work to it..I was reading the latest Dyno sheet he had..at Christmas time he was making 987HP and 1356 on TQ..it is 2 wheel drive and he has it lowered down a few inches below stock..sits a little higher than the old S10 pick ups..twin turbos..this things hauls ass..it goes from 0-60 in around the 3-3.5 second range..I can't remember his exact quarter time but it is under 10..oh and he gets 25 mpg

Got to say I enjoyed the hell out of myself and loved all the attention of the bar sluts that wanted to go for a ride..he is the best wingman..he let me drive and kept telling the whores it was my truck lol

If you are in the $40K range, I think you can pick up a Buick Regal supercharged or TDI. At least drive one.

Did you decide on something BRC?

No. I'm leaving town for a couple of weeks tomorrow. Didn't want to rush it. I need to find a 335i with regular seats. That Lexus looks sweet but its pricy.

I should temper my comment. You buy a Pontiac, you're not buying Lexus Mercedes BMW. But for my dollar, they were the best value for performance dollar. Mine were reliable, and the motors weren't worthless save the sunfire. It was worthless.

I had an 01 Grand Prix with the 3.8 and it was probably the best I've owned. The G6 with the 3.5 was a solid rig also. Regretted selling both.
