DaNewGuy 01-05-2016 06:33 PM

Jagr is not human. He gets the Cats the first goal

DaNewGuy 01-05-2016 08:27 PM

Panthers And Chiefs both on a 10 game win streak :)

Seth Jones traded for Ryan Johansen straight up.

Oh my.

Yes, very torn on this one. Giving up a franchise Dman but they really need that #1 Center and have for a long time. Good trade for both teams, but Jones has been stuck on the 3rd pairing, and might be for a few more years. Ryan Johansen will slide right in as a top line Center.

Predarat 01-06-2016 07:07 PM

Last nights game though really shows how much this was needed. Disgusting. DaNewGuys cats kicked some ass yet again last night.

And it looks like they might get win number 11 tonight against Ottawa. 2 goals in 8 seconds in the 1st period and now Barkov just drilled one home :).

You gave up a 3rd line, developing D-man for a 1st line center. IMO - This was a huge win for the Preds and won't hurt the BJs either when they get Auston Matthews with the first pick, (unless they lose the draft lottery to Edmonton...)

I am happy with it, they really needed a 1st line center, and that will make the other lines better too. If The Oil wins the lottery again, I am going to :cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss:

Eh I think it should stay the same in my opinion.. That logo I've grown to love over the years but as long as they start having winning seasons they could put anything on their jerseys for that matter LMAO

Weren't they good for a while in the mid 90's with this current logo?

Pushead2 01-10-2016 10:08 PM

It reminds me of the Jags and a soccer team.

Tough loss for my Ducks. Getzy with too many soft plays this year that costs us points.

DJ's left nut 01-15-2016 03:20 PM

Hey predators fans.

If the Blues offered you David Backes, Alexander Steen and Jay Bouwmeester for Mike Ribiero and Barrett Jackman, would you be interested?

Because seriously, I'd give you Backes and Steen just to clear Jay Bouwmeester from our books. I don't want Ribiero and Jackman either, but you need to clear about $4 million from your cap to take on the $15.5 that those 3 would add to it.

It's essentially giving you another scoring line and all you have to do is take Jay Bouwmeester and his contract off our hands.

CaliforniaChief 01-15-2016 03:23 PM

Apparently the Kings and Anze Kopitar are close on an 8 year, $80 million contract. It's been quite a process, apparently. But great for the Kings (and Kopi) if true.

I'm also hearing that the Lightning could be dealing Jonathan Drouin soon. The Ducks are a strong possibility. They've climbed back into contention again.

KCUnited 01-15-2016 03:31 PM

Is Corey Crawford the Rodney Dangerfield of the league? Cuz he certainly is here in Chicago.

DaNewGuy 01-22-2016 10:13 PM

Well solid win for the Cats tonight. Finally snapped that little losing streak. This team plays completely different when Ekblad is on the ice.

LOL, I'll take your word for it. Our friends won a signed game used goalie stick from him at a game last year. Was pretty neat.

But yes, lower level hockey was much more awesome than the normal high cheap seats I get. I just do not understand how they can skate that fast and change directions that quick. It's amazing.

The team has turned it completely around after booting Mike Johnston.

As a Ducks fan, I really love the Perron / Hags trade for both teams.

All of a sudden, both are producing big time - better scheme & fit for both.

It could've happened.

The Blues had to dress an equipment manager a couple of years ago when they traded Halak and Miller hadn't gotten into town yet. NHL rules allow you to essentially dress any schmo in the organization as an 'emergency goalie' if you couldn't get someone up from the minors in time for the game.

So had the Avs been caught shorthanded, Roy could've actually played. It's my understanding he actually went out there in pads before gametime because the Avalanche knew it was a possibility.

Pushead2 01-28-2016 05:26 AM

That's going to be a tough call to make on how intentional it was only because he is going to claim he was stunned after the hit and didn't realize what he was doing or thought it was another player while trying to make it to the bench. Which is completely plausible.

I think he'll end up getting 10 for intentional contact with the official.

Wideman's never had a reputation as a troublemaker and frankly, that's just so !@#$ing crazy that I can't imagine what he did was actually done with an intent to blast the ref. I know all outward appearances suggest that it was, but ****....you'd essentially need to believe that a player who's been a good citizen throughout his career decided to torpedo his livelihood for shits and grins.

Had he tried to be surreptitious about it, I think he'd actually take a bigger hit. But this was just so brazen that it almost had to be cobwebs.

CaliforniaChief 01-28-2016 10:11 AM

Both Wideman and the ref looked stunned, that was really strange.

On another note, congrats to you Avs fans on a nice win last night. I thought the Kings were gonna own that one after the first, Avs showed a lot of heart and played well after that to win it. Although the Kings need to be more disciplined about penalties.

That's my thinking as well. I figure you have to sit him for a few games at least just out of principle, but throwing a full 20 at him for something that almost has to have been at least partially influenced by the fact that he was seeing stars seems extreme.

KCUnited 01-28-2016 06:07 PM

Hopefully Wideman comes up with something better than "I didn't see him until the last minute" excuse like he said in his post game.

Like the new format... seemed to be more fluff/commercials last night, but didn't really matter since I recorded it. Always enjoy the skills competition and the 3 on 3 was entertaining... completely blows away any other league's all star stuff.

DaFace 01-31-2016 07:48 PM

New format was fantastic. Wonder if the league will actually take the John Scott story to heart and find a way to get more grinders involved in the future. He was, by far, the main (and most entertaining) story of the weekend.

Agreed on the format. Best All-Star game I've seen since...shit, I can't remember.

As far as John Scott and having future "grinders" is concerned, I doubt it. This is an isolated incident where he was voted in as a joke and gained popularity because the NHL disapproved and did their damndest to keep him out. The fans noticed, rebelled against the establishment, and hence the ridiculous support behind him en route to the All-Star MVP.

I doubt you get the same support if you introduce a grinder/pest like Zac Rinaldo or Ryan Garbutt.

Sure, but those aren't the kinds of guys I'm thinking of. As an Avs fan, I'm thinking of guys like Cody McLeod. He's been on the team longer than just about anyone at this point. Gets in lots of fights, but isn't really dirty (though Wild fans might disagree). Huge locker room guy. But there's no way he'd make it into an All Star game because he's not a top-line kind of guy.

The issue is that I have no idea how you'd define the category I'm looking for. There's not technically a formal position of "4th line grinder," so I'm not sure where you draw the line between "potential star player" and "important role, but will never be a star."

Regardless, fun weekend. I'm almost tempted to get a John Scott All Star jersey.
