I fail to see how composing/producing music is any more important than delivering pizza, albeit probably does pay better. But I love pizza, so...

Perhaps, but 20 years ago, the ones taking the best routes were true pros. Anyone can compose a little music for reality tv ... But the great ones are pumping out the SportsCenter theme. Until Dane shows me proof he's that guy who composed the NBA on NBC music, I'm just not impressed. Reality tv!? Pssh

Relax.

But really, delivering pizza, composing music, or hitting a baseball ... All meaningless jobs. I enjoy pizza, music and baseball, though.

I can pick up a pizza myself, or even make it at home with a modicum of effort. I eat it maybe once a month, though.

I can't write music for shit, but I have dozens of gigs of film music on my hard drive, listen to it every day, and I would dearly miss it if people like Dane went the way of the dodo.

Sure. I feel the same way about baseball. I'm just saying, producing music for reality tv may pay well, but is utterly meaningless.

There is a great pizza place down the street from me. Best pizza in town. It would suck if it went under, but life would go on

You're right.

Pizza drivers of old were badass ninjas, especially in Los Angeles with its crazy streets, hills and 18 foot wide streets. When I first moved here, I had a Thomas guide, just like everyone else and still constantly got lost. Hell, I still get lost 22 years later WITH GPS.

But I do take care of my pizza guys. I gave the Dominos guy $20 bucks on a $100 dollar order on Sunday at my 3 year old's birthday party at a nearby park because he had to carry all the pizzas 500 yards to the picnic area in 90 degree heat.

As for the music, you're right again. While I'm very happy to work, the guys that get the opportunity to create the theme song for iconic events, and CAPITALIZE on that opportunity, are awesome.

Hammock Parties 08-04-2015 08:30 PM

Composing music is not meaningless.

I'll allow Robin Williams to sum it up:

Quote:

We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion.

And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.

To quote from Whitman, "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?"

Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play *goes on* and you may contribute a verse.

What will your verse be?
Hootie's verse:

I'm just saying, I think anyone that has a job that allows them to support themselves, their loved ones, and afford them happiness is doing just fine. Doesn't matter if they're delivering pizzas, writing music, hitting baseballs, or cleaning toilets.

True, but a little sweeter when you can be self employed in the process.

Well, maybe. Let's just Dane was pretty worn and tired from carrying 60 pounds if ice, tubs of drinks, etc. to set up.

I was in the bathroom washing up and a crazy homeless guy (and unfortunately, they're in every park instead of getting help) said "Hey! Why are you sweating so much! Are you high? ARE YOU HIGH? Can you share?".

It put s damper on my spirits for a few minutes.

I used to work at KCI as a skycap. Van Halen rolls through with like 100 bags. I busted my ass on them. Tipped me $10. I would have made over $50 in that time if I hadn't jumped on that opportunity. Van Halen dicked me.

Cool gig.

Amen.

Being paid to do what you love more than anything in the world, other than your family and faith, is a reward that I wish everyone could experience and enjoy.

Once again, I'm fortunate, even if it's reality TV or the new Draft Kings commercial (which I haven't seen but is supposed to air soon).

Can't wait for the CP criticism! :D

Hootie's the expert on tips but just let me say, I always overtip when I'm thinking straight.

I have the money and I always appreciate the help, especially with kids.

PS: Dave, Michael and even Woflgang are really great people. I'll never understand Al and Ed. I don't even care anymore.

A lot of the people that I know who are self employed have only created themselves a job. It's usually a job that comes with moar stress than an average job.

Now if you are self employed and can take two weeks off at a time multiple times a year you have created something beautiful.

Having an office t 40,000 feet is breath taking. The views are unbelievable. I am thankful to be blessed with a talent that allows me to see some of the most amazing sites this planet has to offer.

I would do it for free, but the wife disapproves. It's that bad ass!

I grew up in an aviation family. Dad is a private pilot. We rebuilt countless airplanes in our garage. But the bug never hit me

Now sailing... I've never done it but I will and I know I will love it.

I have to say that Saul Good's posts have been exemplary in this thread.

He's never accused anyone of heinous crimes, never accused anyone of being out of line and his behavior has never been condescending or ironic.

I salute you.

His treatment of Phobia over the years has been equally excellent. Phobia was a tyrant. He had nothing to do with the growth of ChiefsPlanet, nor its community as it stands. CP get togethers happen more frequently than ever before and the turn out to CP events is unprecedented.

If Saul didn't run him off, someone else would have done the deed.

Saul, you're a true hero. You're the engine that makes ChiefsPlanet run.

In the past two years, I've had music on more than 1,200 episodes of network and cable TV, including The NFL and NASCAR on Fox, which is always cool.

I've been asked to write commercial pop music with some really successful songwriters but I'm not interested in working with people that want to be famous and/or "stars". Singers, especially really talented and successful singers, are the debil.

Instrumental music is where it's at for me.
