Mirroring a comment I just made on discord, I really love the new event store. The challenges feel much more rewarding now and there's enough items to chase in the store that it feels worthwhile to grind. It's not just mindless repetition for tarsis rep or to complete gear challenges now.

I really like the open world storm events, lots of fun to be had and challenging but not too much so.

They definitely upped the drops. I had a streak of like 12 or 13 events in a row with a lemon today.

Not sure why they time gated the new weapons/support items and they're not even out yet.

keg in kc 08-10-2019 07:42 AM

Makes total sense to me. Mete out the rewards to give people an incentive to log in for ensuing weeks of the event. Same basic principle as the rotating event store.

Just imagine people getting all the weapons and gear they want in the first two or three weeks, then complaining for the last three that they don't have anything to do.

I ended up getting a legendary out of every single thing I did yesterday. That's never gonna happen again.

I'm sorry I wouldn't complain if I found the perfect gear, time gating is just a bad business practice. That being said it seems like it would take years to get the perfect gear even with legendaries dropping I haven't found a single upgrade since the RNG is so poor. I basically have nothing left this week to play for but i'm doing it anyways because the stats on almost all of my gear is garbage.

Like I said i've been playing lately because the gameplay is fun and satisfying the same reason I played Mass Effect 3 multiplayer because the gameplay itself sets it apart from others.

keg in kc 08-11-2019 10:37 AM

Time gating is what these games are. That ain't changing soon.

I finished the store off on Thursday. So far banked 25 major crystals and 2500 minor. The only thing I've done the last three days is try to complete challenges, learn secrets and complain about randos on discord.

Not all games time gate crap, just Anthem and Division to my knowledge. It's a poor excuse for not putting out content and being lazy. Anthem took a big step in the right direction so they need to cater to what people want to get them back.

I'm sure you agree the RNG in this game is unforgiving, it seems it would take years to find the perfect gear so time gating is not necessary. Diablo 2 and 3 didn't time gate and I consider those games to be kings of the looter genre.

Aiming for this build right now...

I don't have enough gear to worry about build at this point. I almost always get lemon drops for things I already have, going back months...

I may by the end of the cataclysm, though. I've gotten some new things in between the waves of repeats.

Have lemon melee on all 4 javelins now, albeit not necessarily the melee weapons I might want. And I only have one more gear challenge to finish on my colossus. After that, it's just interceptor.

Im up to 14 major and 20k minor crystals from Cata Farming. I don't mind grinding as long as i see an upgrade now and then but I really haven't seen an upgrade in a while. Also I still have to reset my javelin to get legendary drops otherwise its mostly purple with a few MW mixed in. They need to fix the system and let Legendarys fall more frequently because 99.9% of them are garbage. I did a couple of GM3 Stronghold runs and not a single legendary, so it's really not worth the difficulty.

keg in kc 08-12-2019 08:48 PM

Think I'm up to 31 major crystals and 3500 minor.

This week's challenge war chest will be gear. The armor is storm. Melee war chest will remain in the store, along with the new gear chest.

I bought a new Gear chest and it was the same mw i already have so it's probably not worth spending that on. Going to hang on for the new mw support gear and weapons. Really hoping I can at least find one Great rolled Legendary soon, it's disheartening rarely seeing Legendaries and when you do they're just pure garbage rolls.

keg in kc 08-13-2019 09:46 AM

I got 4 legendary melee weapons from challenge warchests last week, so hopefully I'll luck out and get some of the new 80 power gear legendaries.

The storm shard armor looks pretty great.

keg in kc 08-14-2019 08:10 AM

So between 4 cataclysm runs and 11 store warchests yesterday, I already have a new piece of 80 legendary gear for each javelin.

Imon Yourside 08-14-2019 10:29 AM

I played 12 hours yesterday and got zero legendaries, i'm about ready to put the game back down again. I haven't seen an upgrade from any legendaries other than melee since the new patch came out. The reset tricks don't seem to work anymore either, they were working before the latest patch.

Not sure how much i'll play it but the new NMS patch looks pretty cool, still someone needs to do the loot shooter right and Anthem seems to have turned the drop rates back down again.

keg in kc 08-14-2019 11:10 AM

I haven't noticed any change drop wise from last week. I got four lemon drops (not war chest stuff, drops...) yesterday, didn't play more than 3 hours. Have you been resetting? Because I'm still getting pilot error bugs.

The other thing that's seemed to help my drop rate is cycling through activities, rather than doing a long string of cata, or a bunch of strongholds at once. I'll do a cata, run a sh, do some freeplay, maybe run a lego mission. For whatever reason I seem to get a lot more that way (that's what I was doing on the day I got 12 or 15 in one day last week).

My problem is that I'm always getting repeats, rarely anything I need.

keg in kc 08-14-2019 11:11 AM

And I played NMS when it launched, and again for a bit when they introduced survival, but haven't touched it. I was looking at the video today, but it just feels like I'd be too far out of the loop by this point.

Ya not only do i switch up activities I also use a different javelin everytime I play never the same one back to back. Nothing works now, I've reset using both the methods I know and still get purples and blues from gm2.

NMS is really a single player go at your own pace type of game, nothing to really be out of the loop about. That being said I tend to agree I play it for a while then reach the point where i'm asking myself what exciting is there to do in this game, So I doubt I'll stick with it long. Borderlands 3 needs to hurry and come out.

I would love to keep grinding Anthem as the games fun just beat down on no upgrades at all in a long span of playing.

I just got a legendary component I've been looking for for months, but today's been slow otherwise. 3 MW from challenge warchests so far.

I'm farming GM3 cataclysm now, sure I can't kill the boss but i see more mw/legs than ever before. I'm sure they don't like it when I leave after the events but it's better than chest farming

Holy shit did my luck take a turn last night. I decided I wanted to try to get a warding blades lego, so I started buying war chests. I bought FIFTY and got nothing but masterworks.

Fast forward to today, and my first cataclysm run got 10 notable drops...

9 were masterworks.

At least the 1 lemon was something new.

I just managed to actually complete GM3 and almost had high score, who knew the lowly storm is so powerful. LOLZ Either someone turned up the loot or GM3 is all that and a bag of chips i'm getting like at least 1 per gm3 run got 4 on a Heart of Rage run earlier. Guess I can't go back to gm2 or lower now except to get the vanity items for things that require speed runs.

So i jumped on last night for 2 hours and really enjoyed the Cataclysm event. Was playing with random's on GM1, and ended up getting a bunch of masterwork items and some of the yellow ones (epic?). Basically do the 4 arenas and then hope everybody else knows to do challenges and not just rush straight to vara.

keg in kc 08-20-2019 02:10 AM

The loot system has completely ruined the Cataclysm for me.

I just bought 130 war chests. I've bought about 250 total, between the two weeks and including the challenges.

I wanted 3 legendary items out of those 250 war chests: detonator melee and arctic tomb for ranger, and steam vent for storm.

That's all. 3 things.

What I got were 3-5 legendary copies of every other melee weapon and piece of gear, but not the three items that I wanted.

What's the point in even playing if there's no way to get the specific things you want?

I almost just deleted the game. I don't think I've ever been this frustrated and angry in almost 40 years of gaming.

I have a nearly perfect rolled Arctic tomb and it's highly underwhelming. Perfect that is if u want a high damage roll on a non damage gear piece.

After opening about the same amount of chests as you have on my next to last roll All I wanted was a Leg Steam vent and I got it with 200% gear charges and 19% suit dmg.

I do feel ya though before I started running endlessly on GM3 My entire gearset sucked, just in the last few days i've managed to roll a ton of high dmg and near perfect rolled gear. No idea what gives other than just switching exclusively to GM3 mode.

keg in kc 08-20-2019 01:19 PM

I don't think it bothers me now so much that I didn't get specific items, but that I got so many copies of some things, but didn't get everything.

It's the same issue I have with drops in general. Like yesterday. My Ranger doesn't have all the class gear, he only has 1 class component, I'm missing nearly half of the universal components, and I still don't have three of the original weapons. So 4 legendaries drop, and 3 of them are repeat items. With all of that stuff that I'm missing...

And then I got 6 legendaries on my other 3 javelins, combined. All repeat items.

It didn't bother me so much during the first month, even two months. But I have hundreds and hundreds of hours played now, and there's no way for me to guarantee acquisition of anything...

And the war chests just make it worse. Opening one is like asking how I'll be disappointed this time. I don't even get excited when I see the item is legendary.

It's those surprise mechanics EA thinks we're in love with. I've been a fan of RNG since the early days but most games do it wrong. Division 2 and Anthem have unforgiving RNG.

Back in the day a game like Diablo 2 had similar rng BUT you could actually trade for what you needed which made a HUGE difference. You might keep getting the same Legendary piece and another dude get's the piece you wanted over and over not a problem just trade him gear.

So, I'm still playing, but not as much Cataclysm. The additive nature of the event has just made it take too long to do. I liked it early on because i could grind 3 of 4 in and hour and knock the dailies out, whereas now it's a half hour or longer investment just to do it once. And I'm a little burned out on it, too, I think. Just a long event cycle.

I think it's an overall really good event, I just hope that future iterations cut back on the time investment late in the cycle.

Gear wise, with the introduction of the new jav specific boxes, I have almost all the gear I want. Weapon wise I'm still missing 3. I get legendary blade slingers over and over and over and over, and that's frustrating.

The extra vault space is nice.

Need to hear something relatively soon about what's coming, more than the statement yesterday in the state of BioWare blog that they're working on it.

That is all.

Due to the fact they're extending the Cataclysm it makes me think they have nothing planned for the foreseeable future. They should probably find a way to make it a permanent part of the game.

I have no idea whether they do or do not have anything planned after this, but I believe the team at this point is too large for them to not be working on something. However, I am assuming the reason they're expanding the cataclysm is because 1.4 was bugged, and not because there's no plan.

Hello Freelancers,

We’re nearing the end of the Cataclysm, so I wanted to talk about what’s coming for Anthem.

First, I’m proud of our team for creating a fun new experience for our players. It represents the largest post-launch update that we’ve delivered so far. We were humbly excited by the increase in player engagement we’ve seen with the Cataclysm. The team and I appreciate the response and support — it is what keeps us motivated to continue to improve Anthem.

Those of you in our player community that played on our Public Test Server gave us valuable feedback from your play that we used to influence our changes to the game. PTS is an invaluable tool we will leverage for future updates with Anthem. Some of the changes made to the Cataclysm based on your input were:
  • Combat balancing improvements
  • Adjustments for minor-to-major crystal economy
  • Additional types of reward crates, providing more player choice
  • UX tips in load screens to better explain Cataclysm mechanics
  • Final Score Banners to show how much score was gained from playing on higher difficulties

So what’s next for Anthem?

We hear your concerns on core issues in Anthem and are acting on it. Those systems require a more thorough review and re-working versus quick fixes. We’ve got a team working on that now, and early results are promising.

In order to address these long-range plans, we are moving away from the Acts structure for updates. Instead, we have additional seasonal updates planned for this year that we think players will enjoy. These events will deliver challenges and chases similar to what you’ve seen, and are built around some fun themes we’re bringing to the game.

As I’ve said previously, we want to be transparent with you that we know more work needs to be done to make Anthem better. We also want to ensure we’re backing up our words with a great game you can play. So I don’t have any news today to share about the long-term changes we are bringing to Anthem. What I can say is that we will continue to engage with you, our community, through PTS when we can show you what is coming.

Stronger together!

So it sounds like (maybe?) another Cataclysm-style event before the end of the year. Other than that it just sounds like they're re-working the core game. But they've gone so radio-silent since the month after launch that it's really difficult to get a read.

So basically we're losing content post Cataclysm, about what I expected but was hoping for more.

It sounds like maybe they're trying to go all-in for a Taken King style reset in February, I just don't know that they'll have enough interest left at that point to pull it off. Although if it's free, I think people will come back to try it.

Either way, it can't not be free. A paid DLC would be a PR nightmare that makes the post-launch period to now look like a sunny day at the beach.

And whatever this "seasonal" thing is, it better be good, because even the folks who love the game, like myself, are going to stop playing now that the cataclysm is over. Literally the only thing I have left to do in the game is finish the Tarsis rep.

Right, I mean other than just an hour or so here and their the game has no real purpose or content. I find it hard to believe they would let the cataclysm expire without replacing it with something else. Just not enough to do in this game so they should have found a way to leave it in.

I don't think leaving the cata in is really a viable option, in terms of it providing anything meaningful to the game. I get the impression that pretty much everybody is really, really burned out on the cataclysm now, and not sad at all to see it come to an end. I know I am, and I get the same impression from a lot of the people I communicate with online. We all liked it, but....enough.

Definitely need something new.
