Spring has thus far steadfastly refused to blow in for good around here

We'll get 3-4 days in the high 60s and low 70s, then it drops down into the high 40's for another 3-4 days... its maddening

And whats worse is the nice days are usually during the work week, with temp drops just in time for the weekend, just like today :banghead:

Hot and windy here, 50% humidity, 83 degrees with the wind blowing all directions.

It's been a weird spring here too, it's going to be back in the 60s again next week. We should be seeing 70s/80s and it's just not happening and lows in the upper 30's low 40's.

I'll probably jinx it but we haven't had any severe storms really at all this spring. I don't think we've had a single tornado watch let alone a warning.

That being said, it's still the midwest and I'm sure another 500-year derecho is right around the corner considering we've had 2 in the last 11 years.

**** Iowa. **** the midwest.

I had a low of 47 on June 1. Today it was 95.

Saturday=High of 99.

But. thank god the wind will be from the Southwest. So a much dryer heat.

Kid 2 has her grad party tomorrow. Slushies and cotton candy. Lots of tents.

We had a low of -20 this spring. So if we get to 100, that will be a spread of 120 degrees in 3 1/2 months.

ST PAUL, Minn. — After a prolonged heat wave left students and teachers in some Minnesota classrooms sweltering, all St. Paul Public Schools will close for the rest of the school year.

The school year would have ended on June 11. According to a letter from SPPS Communications Director Kevin J. Burns, the decision to end class early was made "in the best interest of the health and safety of our students and staff."

Burns wrote that students will not switch to distance learning, a measure chosen by Minneapolis Public Schools during the extended period of hot weather. However, St. Paul students will still be able to turn in assignments for a few more days.

SPPS buildings will remain open for the remainder of the week and on Monday so students can pick up and drop off materials. Staff will be at the buildings to take assignments and complete end-of-year procedures.

Burns said athletic events and graduation ceremonies will be held as planned.

"We are very sorry to have to end the school year in this way," Burns wrote in the letter. "We know how much students and staff look forward to this time of year. This is not how any of us wanted this school year to end. We know our families and staff have been through so much and appreciate all of your support this year."

7 days over 90F

I have fond memories of sitting in a hot classroom, windows open, fans going, at Antioch High School. Was always kinda breezy though. I don't know if they had AC. I think Oak Park did.

Seems like poor planning. If it’s 75 with your humidity I’m dying.

BWillie 06-10-2021 08:14 AM

And now for the worst weather of all year. 90s and humid summers. I hate it more than anyone can imagine.

TLO 06-10-2021 08:52 AM

It's hotter than Gal Gadot outside.

The heat is much preferable to winter around here.

Outside of a below 10 degrees period polar blast, give me winter instead of Jul-August any day. I know I'm one of the only ones.

Winter is fantastic. No yard work. Cheaper energy bills. No sweating. Sleep like a baby in the cold.

Iowa winters are different, man. The difference between here and emporia where I went to college is substantial. I went to Iowa once during the winter. And it was fairly temperate according to the locals, but it’s a different kind of cold and the sun never shines. I was there for a week. Dad wanted to fly but there was literally 0 seconds the whole week he could have done a VFR landing.

Dad went a couple other times for gold key tours at Deere and he said it was the same except much colder. One time he said it wasn’t above 0 the whole trip.

**** Iowa.

Really?

Good. Sometimes dry in Chicago equates to higher grain prices. :D

Early June and it's already goddamn miserable outside. 4321

I haven't circled back but we were on pace for the 2nd driest May in Chicago history.

Apr/May rain was in the forecast everyday and it always went around. Maybe some sprinkles here and there but I'm fretting my water bill and my lawn looking like its August.

100%

I can play outside with my kids when it’s 95-100. I can sit down and knock down beers in 95-100. My hands function while working in 95-100 temps.

Winter can get ****ed.

displacedinMN 06-11-2021 07:37 AM

We have been lucky, I would say dry heat.

If I am not complaining, or insta-sweating, it is not bad.

Rain moving in.

displacedinMN 06-11-2021 07:50 AM

anyone in SE Nebraska getting anything bad?

Yep.

For me, it's not a matter of physical comfort. Extreme cold and extreme heat are BOTH super uncomfortable.

However, for me, living in Iowa, a hot summer is annoying. A cold, dark winter is DEPRESSING.

Yeah, you are right on that. I went to high school & college in Iowa and they were pretty brutal. I still remember the summers kind of sucking but that is probably because I played golf alot right in the middle of the day at it's hottest and detassled a couple of summers.

25 degrees in Denver: T-Shirt Weather

25 degrees in a humid area like KC through Iowa: **** You it’s cold

The moisture in the air transfers the cold directly to my bones. It’s similar to wind chill, only sneakier.
