He's well aware of his shitty play in the 2nd half. No way a competitive person doesn't have that fire burning inside to make that right. Hobbling around on 1/2 an ankle be damned.

I think he’s trying to pull pat down I think landing on the ankle was not intentional.

It does seem strange that he pulls his legs up instead of just laying out. But I've never tackled a guy and don't know the reasons things happen the way they do.

redfan 01-23-2023 09:57 AM

Not intentional, just a big dumbass oaf of a human falling down.

budman3 01-23-2023 09:58 AM

A healthy Mahomes means the game can be won because of him. A 75% of Mahomes would be good enough against any team...except the Bengals who scheme and have had confused him three straight games when he was healthy. He needs to be able to dance around the pocket, slide to either slide, use his back leg to make all the crazy throws he can make and take off with speed to pick up first downs when needed the most. A one legged PM is not the same and the Bengals will exploit that even more. Expecting him to have a miraculous recovery with an injury that sidelines players for upwards of 2-3 weeks, let alone a QB who relies upon his legs, and that he won't miss a beat is very wishful thinking, IMO. Even for Andy Reid. And while I don't know the weather forecast for Sunday night, any type of cold, wet field doesn't help him either.

This game is going to have to be won by the defense which is going up against the hottest team in the league with the QB playing better than anyone else right now, has confidence and has weapons the Chiefs defense has trouble matching up against. Especially with Spagnoula's vanilla defense which lacks LB'er play on either side of Bolton and not a good enough pass rush to protect the secondary. And fanswho keep saying the Bengals can't protect Borrows with an injured and inexperienced offensive line haven't been watching them play lately.

He does seem to move his leg into a position to fall right on Mahomes' ankle, and it looks like a bit of an odd way to go to the ground unless he's trying to land a certain way.

That said, it's easy for us to watch it on a screen and say it was malicious. We don't know what he was thinking as he was repositioning his body during a huge collision in real time. I doubt he even had the whereabouts to know exactly how he would be landing because they were both in a pretty awkward position.

TLO 01-23-2023 10:50 AM

I doubt we're getting any kind of updates today? I know Andy Reid will speak today, but I doubt he says much of anything

You're not crazy. Looking at the still frame, the defender is looking down at his leg while he's falling as if he's aiming. But I'm a ticked-off fan so I could be reading a little much into it :)

I agree.

After the Cleveland game 2 years ago, we had a long week of Mahomes not being cleared to play until like Thursday. He wasn’t even actually concussed either.

Andy will have us guessing by design.

If you watch the video closely and understand that Key was trying to tackle Mahomes, Its very suspect.

Hes not trying to wrap up. He doesnt slide his arms down around Patricks legs like he was attempting to bring him down. You would think his own legs would be behind his torso, making every effort to launch himself into the tackle.

Instead he brings his knee up and appears to target Patricks lower leg.

Yes, I am totally biased but watching it makes me feel like there was some intent.

Impossible to know for sure and I tend to believe that players do not play to injure other players BUT... It is the Playoffs, whole season on the line, winning is everything at that point.

They didn't talk about the hit being sus. No updates. Skip Bayless of all people said that he thought the hit looked sus on his show today. He's the only talking head I've seen bring up the sketchy hit so far.

Yeah, the only people who should know what's going on with Mahomes' ankle before the offense takes the field Sunday are the people in the building. He should be questionable with nothing meaningful said all week.

Andy just said that he doesn’t think this sprain is as bad as the one Pat suffered week 1 against Jacksonville in 2019.

You may recall that the week after that injury in 2019 Pat went scorched earth on the Raiders and threw four TD passes in the second quarter.

Assuming Andy isn’t blowing smoke up our asses, this is VERY good news.

Game on.

They've already done so much to put the defense at a disadvantage. If they keep taking options out of the defensive strategy it will end up as 2 hand touch.

Thanks for posting this information.

Years back the horse collar tackle combined with the drop hip was almost a sure way to injure a player and get them out of the game. I know I am biased in protecting Patrick Mahomes, but it is hard to believe that DE Arden Key did not do this on purpose.

crayzkirk 01-23-2023 05:53 PM

Watching the replay, and it's painful to watch... The defender doesn't make any effort to prevent it. Mahomes had clearly released the ball and the player drug him down from behind falling on his legs. Not really a lot different than the horse collar which was made illegal (yet players still do it).

If it was a Jaguars player with Trevor Lawrence, I have a feeling the Jaguars guy would have found a way to avoid landing on Trevor's ankle. He was looking down before making contact with Mahomes' ankle.

Look at his feet. Landed on Orlando Browns feet. Athletes have a lot of coordination but to think he landed on another players feet and still had the wherewithal to injure Mahomes as he fell is crazy talk. His body just gave away when his feet didn't hit the ground the way he expected.

And this O line better do their nastiest impression of Roaf, Shields and co we've yet seen... its time to live up to your hype, men

We're looking at YOU... Joe, Creed and Trey

Dominate so your tackles don't have to

Honestly that will be the most important factor. Brown Jr and/or Wiley can’t let Hendrickson beat them and our IOL needs to keep Reader from disrupting our run game.

Do you even Chiefs?
