I don't expect 2018 Hunt just like anyone else, but we're fooling ourselves if we think he isn't gonna see the lightest boxes he's had consistently since.... 2018.

And with a nice powerful line in front of him too.

I'll wager he's closer to 4.0 than 3.0.

digger 09-17-2024 01:37 PM

Well, I guess, Maybe, he can at least retire as a Chief and get 1 ring...

This is the equivalent of Le'veon Bell, Melvin Gordon or whatever rerun at RB the Chiefs have signed the past couple years. If Hunt gets a couple carries for a few yards, great. If he's cut in a few weeks, so be it. If the magical powers of Mahomes causes him to regain the fountain of youth and he runs for 500 yards... well Chiefs.

Not the same at all. The season before coming to KC neither of those players had stats as productive as Kareem's. Kareem was on a whole different level to those guys. Plus he knows elements of the system and they didn't. That makes a big difference imo.

BigRedChief 09-17-2024 01:42 PM

yeah, to the practice squad. You have to give him some orientation to the changes in the playbook since he left

FloridaMan88 09-17-2024 01:44 PM

If he can pick up short yardage conversions, that would be very helpful. Look at this from Sunday:

1st & Goal at CIN 2
(4:14 - 1st) (Shotgun) I.Pacheco left guard to CIN 2 for no gain (S.Rankins; L.Wilson).

2nd & Goal at CIN 2
(3:40 - 1st) (Shotgun) I.Pacheco up the middle to CIN 2 for no gain (S.Hubbard, J.Tufele).

I think he might surprise some people with fresh legs, light boxes and great schemes from Andy. He should also be a good emotional shot in the arm to some of the older guys too. I just hope he's kept himself in shape.

He was always a hell of a receiving threat too, and those swing passes to the flat have been there all season. We've missed them, but they've been there.

I think it will be Perine.

Because I think the Chiefs prefer him in the passing game, they prefer to pass and they'd prefer to not let personnel telegraph the plays.

So Perine will be the naturally bet to get more of the plays between the 20s and if he has gas left in the tank (I think he does) he'll get the first crack at really getting a grip on the job.

Hunt would represent the highest ceiling but I think Perine's versatility will give him the first crack and I think he'll be able to run with it.

Thanks again, Denver!

Perine's small usage so far makes me question how much of the playbook he knows at this point.

I doubt they lean on a rookie, they're probably just going to pass more.

BWillie 09-17-2024 01:56 PM

Certainly not upset about it. It's mainly just they want a guy that is familiar with the system. Ultimately I don't value RB very much so it barely matters who we sign as long as they know their assignments and block. Just would have preferred someone who has a CHANCE to be a bit more dynamic and catch footballs.

Evan Hull is going to be my next Mike Boone. I'm gonna spend years saying the Chiefs should pick him up, he's never gonna really get an opportunity anywhere and yet we'll look up someday and he's spent 10 years in the league.

I thought defensive & offensive players are allowed to share a number? Maybe that is a college rule instead of NFL.

I just checked the current roster. There are a couple of shared numbers, but not among active players.

But who knows? I certainly wouldn't have an issue with it.

Mecca 09-17-2024 02:56 PM

I don't think washed is the proper word, I think he still has a use, he just doesn't have the type of explosion he once had. He was a top 5 RB at 1 point, he isn't that anymore.

Agree with all of this, which is why for fantasy purposes I think I'm gonna steer clear even though I wanna jump in feet first.

CEH can come back W5, and that leaves him as the guy they probably trust the most. But a.) will he come back and b.) does someone just flat out take the job in the next two weeks?

Based on what I saw in Denver last year, you'd have to think it's Perine but they've barely used him, to Mecca's point.

Hunt almost certainly isn't going to play this week. Or be extremely extremely limited.

That being the case, if they had any belief at all that MEH is coming back, they'd make due in week 4 and have him back for week 5.

He's done.

I was able to locate some advanced stats at this site (https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/kareem-hunt/) that indicate he faced the fourth-highest percentage of heavy boxes of any RB in 2023 and had the highest carry rate against stacked boxes in the league. He was 32nd and 21st in 2022. Both of those years were massive jumps from 2021.

I think his usage and the team around him dictate some of the drop in efficiency the past couple of years.

If he's still got some burst, he'll get off the practice squad while we wait for Pacheco. If he doesn't, oh well. He's done.

But I can see some reason to believe he might NOT be washed.

I know people like to point to his TDs but in normal good NFL offenses if you give a guy the ball at the 1 or 2 yard line its really easy to score. I know for some reason that hasn't been the case for us the last couple of years though so hopefully he can help with that...but thats kinda already what Steele is for.

Every play in that highlight that was "explosive" was because he had a hole big enough to drive a truck through or had a perfectly blocked screen and only got 6-7 yards.

Against the Texans in the playoffs.

Looks good to me.

hopefully it was just the stink of Cleveland dragging him down, but the last time i watched Kareem play i remember thinking he looked more like 38 than 28

i'll be genuinely delighted to watch him prove me wrong

This is the equivalent of Le'veon Bell, Melvin Gordon or whatever rerun at RB the Chiefs have signed the past couple years. If Hunt gets a couple carries for a few yards, great. If he's cut in a few weeks, so be it. If the magical powers of Mahomes causes him to regain the fountain of youth and he runs for 500 yards... well Chiefs.

I'm betting it's more like Tomlinson with the Chargers. He's going to start racking up 2k yd seasons like he was eating candy!

We got a lot from RB Williams and RB McKinnon and LB Drue Tranquill and WR Toney recently that were low risk.

We missed on Josh Gordon and LeVeon Bell and a few other bombs.

None cost us a ton of money or other comp.

Hunt I view the same way..

This…he was never a burner, so hope he still has some juice.

how come he was available? Hope it works out, I guess McKinnon is done. I almost expected them to call him up.

Toney was a 3rd round pick trade. That's a decent resource/comp, it was kind of a waste but it did help win a Superbowl so you can say giving up a 3rd round pick to help win Superbowls is worth. The rest were all cheap free agents that did well for us.

I'm pleased the Chiefs are going to kick the tires on KHunt. Show me what you got!

I remain skeptical.

His YPC declined steadily through the years. Though, he did score 9 TDs in 2023.

Maybe it can be like Pujols in 2022. He went on one last binge of Home Runs and for one moment he again brought the magic and went over 700 Home Runs.

Why cant this season's magic be Kareem's redemption as we 3Peat?

I hope they call up Priest, Jamaal, LJ, and Okoye. Let's get the whole band back together and get them all rings.

It still makes me SICK thinking about JC with Mahomes

with issues at left tackle and two high safeties every ****ing game, running the ball has to be their top priority...
