'Hamas' Jenkins 08-13-2013 09:55 PM

Kozma is down to 54 wRC+, which is the third worst batting performance in franchise history, and the worst since 1937.

He is, literally, the worst Cardinal hitter any of us have ever seen.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-13-2013 10:00 PM

Not a big fan of going to Maness here. In a tie game with two outs and runners on base you don't want a pitcher who induces contact, you want a strikeout pitcher.

O.city 08-13-2013 10:16 PM

Damn

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-13-2013 10:17 PM

These games make me hate sabermetrics. The Pirates do every ****ing imaginable thing wrong. They keep giving up baserunners and giving us extra outs and the Cardinals just can't ****ing take advantage.

kcpasco 08-13-2013 10:21 PM

All I can do is laugh at the manager now. What a clown.

Two changes I'd like to see:

1. Sacrifice bunts should be outlawed on penalty of death.
2. After 11 innings, both teams should get losses. Certainly neither of them deserve to win this sticking turd.

I'm going to bed. **** these clowns.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-13-2013 10:44 PM

This team just cannot ****ing hit.

Miles 08-13-2013 10:46 PM

They finally were not in the perfect position for once.

They were. Carpenter taking that base ****s us because it ensures that our two best power hitters won't bat.

A just God would have Maness take a walk or a wild pitch.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-13-2013 10:50 PM

No way the Cardinals win this game.

Yep. That worked out perfectly for them. This RP at cleanup twice through the order hasn't worked so well.

NJChiefsFan 08-13-2013 10:54 PM

As an independent observer I have enjoyed this game since I turned on MLBN in the 8th. Been some interesting escapes by both teams, even if the other team helped them do it.

kcpasco 08-13-2013 10:56 PM

If MM was gonna take out Maness why in the hell didnt he pinch hit Westbrook. WTF is wrong with this guy?

Westbrook is probably the last line of defense in the pen. Maness took some decent cuts there.

And holy ****ing shit, Freeman just nailed the black on two straight pitches, getting ****ed on both.

Time for a two run bomb from the antichrist, Neil Walker.

NJChiefsFan 08-13-2013 11:01 PM

The Pirates telecast said Maness was also a middle infielder in college. Maybe that went into it also.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-13-2013 11:06 PM

I hate Rob Johnson more than Ty Wigginton.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-13-2013 11:10 PM

It's about ****ing time we ran in a late game situation.

NJChiefsFan 08-13-2013 11:10 PM

Barmes boots a ball but then somehow picks that ball cleanly.

Miles 08-13-2013 11:12 PM

Can't believe they finally pulled that off.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-13-2013 11:12 PM

OMFG.

He looked out.

Thank ****ing God.

Piss off and die Rob Johnson, Pete Kozma, and Mike Matheny. Thank you, Chambers.

NJChiefsFan 08-13-2013 11:13 PM

Marte almost made up for his terrible error.

Miles 08-13-2013 11:13 PM

Looks the throw was there in time but just far enough off target to cause Martin to miss on the swipe.

kcpasco 08-13-2013 11:14 PM

Dont forget Jon Jay.

Miles 08-13-2013 11:14 PM

We were also saved from watching Kozma bat for the 7th time.

Mi_chief_fan 08-14-2013 08:06 AM

Damn, I'm dragging at work today, but at least not pissed off; if I'd stayed up until 1:00am and they'd lost, I might have taken the day off.

I got pissed and turned it off in the 7th or 8th, I don't even remember.

Oh well at least they won.

That was an outstanding slide from Jay.

He's much slower than he looks (short legs and a dumpy ass will do that to you), but he's a very savvy baserunner. Without the hook slide there, he was dead to rights.

Pepe Silvia 08-14-2013 12:54 PM

I can't believe they won last night, I had thrown in the towel with the way they've been playing.

Here's something I'd like to know: how many runs/inning does the average team score in extras? Compare that to the average # of runs/inning they score in innings 1-9.

From there, I'd love to see the explanations given for the discrepancy.

The Cardinals, for example, have had an absolutely atrocious offense in extras for years, and I don't think all of it can be pinned solely upon having bench players hit in the pitcher's spot or another place in the lineup. There has to be a reason why they are so abjectly pathetic, especially given that they are usually facing far worse pitchers in extras (Jeanmar Gomez) than in innings 1-9.

For me, it just feels good to get off the 0-41 snide.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-14-2013 05:37 PM

The Cardinals score 4.96 runs/game in 118 games 1049 innings.

Their offense plays 8.89 innings/game and they average .55 runs/inning.

They've played 22 extra innings this year, scoring nine runs. Seven of those runs came in one inning. They average .40 runs/inning in extras, even with a seven run inning.

If you take one swing away, Holliday's slam against Partch, they will have scored five runs in 22 innings, averaging .228 runs/inning.

Not surprising. People just don't appreciate how ****ing bad of an injury that is. It's the worst named injury this side of turf toe.

And Freese is about goddamned worthless.

Reminds me of 2003: everything that can go wrong, is. Well, at least Liriano won't no-hit them tonight, it'll just be a shutout.

O.city 08-14-2013 06:58 PM

Tavares thing is about right, I don't think e was coming up this year anyway

I just hope it doesn't bait the FO into offering Beltran multiple years. That's a Berkman/Carpenter disaster waiting to happen.

What hurts about Taveras' injury is that it deprives the team of an amazing weapon. An elite, switch hitter late in the game is the best option you could have late.

Basically, it turns the PH options late in the game from Adams and Taveras to Adams and Shane Robinson.

The team really needs to be going after Jason Bay.

O.city 08-14-2013 07:04 PM

Konerko was an interesting idea.

**** we probably wot score a run tonight. Left handed pitching is this teams Voldemort

Konerko doesn't even have power anymore. Bay has HR pop against lefties and righties and slugs better against lefties.

Holliday was jogging on that first fly ball hit also.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-14-2013 07:16 PM

This is just a bad baseball team.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-14-2013 07:20 PM

Three runs thanks to defensive laziness and ineptitude.

He got ****ed over, no doubt. But it's not surprising. These slapdicks are just incompetent. This is the 2006 team without playing in a historically awful division, which means the collapse is going to relegate their ass out of the playoffs.

Taveras is not a switch hitter. Majorly bummed about him not getting a September call-up... was excited to see what he could do.

There's no way, after this last half inning, that you can say either Freese or Holliday is playing hard. No way.

Better to have him ready to replace Jay in CF in 2014.

This team has not quit, they are just not executing and are not as good as they seemed at the first part of the season.

You have to remember how incompetent the Cardinals medical staff is. Although it is an injury that notoriously lingers, I'm never willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, because they've never done anything to earn it.

kcpasco 08-14-2013 08:05 PM

LOL at Kozma. Can we please give Jackson a chance.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-14-2013 08:05 PM

All the Pirates have to do is play deep. The team doesn't have the power to hit anything over the fence, and if they play no doubles the worst thing the Cards will ever do is just slap singles against them.

This isn't just a downswing, it's a full-blown tailspin.

He's in a prolonged .219 slump and has the flu. Plus someone in the FO must hate him.

Lets not kid ourselfs, Jackson isn't the solution at SS either. But, how horrible does he have to be to not beat out Kozma?

No, I didn't say they quit, I said they were collapsing. Lack of execution, as you point out, is the main reason, but it sure doesn't look like Holliday & Freese were giving their best effort. Maybe they are. I don't know, I just know it looked bad. Cost Shelby 3 runs.

That said, Molina & Robinson set to return today, and Burnett always gives them a chance.
