Here's something I'd like to know: how many runs/inning does the average team score in extras? Compare that to the average # of runs/inning they score in innings 1-9.

From there, I'd love to see the explanations given for the discrepancy.

The Cardinals, for example, have had an absolutely atrocious offense in extras for years, and I don't think all of it can be pinned solely upon having bench players hit in the pitcher's spot or another place in the lineup. There has to be a reason why they are so abjectly pathetic, especially given that they are usually facing far worse pitchers in extras (Jeanmar Gomez) than in innings 1-9.

What hurts about Taveras' injury is that it deprives the team of an amazing weapon. An elite, switch hitter late in the game is the best option you could have late.

Basically, it turns the PH options late in the game from Adams and Taveras to Adams and Shane Robinson.

The team really needs to be going after Jason Bay.
