Yeah, that really materialized...

But as was stated a bajillion times before this season even began, the built-in excuse list was primed and ready to go should "Mr. Badass" plop a turd in the punch bowl, and lo and behold if it hasn't come to pass exactly as we stated.

Meanwhile, Sanchez and Rex are 3-3, which by my math puts the Jets at .500 as of today, which is all I ever predicted for them this season anyway.

Anyway, please resume your "tryin to feel good about the FAIL-fest".

Ta-ta, shoo-shoo, carry on...

Dude, give me a ****ing break. Two of Sanchez's wins were won by their defense holding a 7pt or less lead throughout the entire 4th quarter. In those games, I believe Sanchez failed to score on 6 or 7 total drives. In two of Cassel's losses, he led a scoring drive where the Chiefs scored with 5 minutes left, and the defense blew the lead.

Don't pretend that record even applies here. Sanchez may be 3-3, but he's lost the last 3.

Stop trying to pretend that Sanchez is outplaying Cassel. I've said many times that Sanchez has more upside, but they've both been plain this season with the difference being that the Jets' defense has protected Sanchez's leads, while the Chiefs have not done the same for Cassel.

And yes, I think Jets fans are and should be legitimately concerned about whether Sanchez doesn't have the ability to play in the conditions. He didn't just make bad decisions yesterday. His throws were extremely affected by the wind. That's a problem that Eli continues to struggle with to this day, and he throws a much better ball than Sanchez does.

Giants Stadium, is considered one of the worst places to play once the swirling wind kicks up and changes everything. Phil Simms' lifetime completion percentage there is 56%. GOOGLE "Giants Stadium + swirling wind," and much of the talk from NFL quarterbacks was about wind.

My favorite quote came from Harry Carson:
Quote:

The committee of captains for the Redskins and Giants captain Harry Carson stood at midfield in a swirling wind before the start of the NFC Championship Game on January 11th, 1987. Referee Pat Haggerty tossed the coin, the Redskins called tails, Carson chose to have the wind at his back, and the game was over.

''It wasn't like a normal windy day, where you just have constant wind,'' O'Hara said. ''It would kind of stop, and then come out of nowhere. You look up at the goal posts, you could see them kind of waving around. And they almost looked like they were going to come down at some points.''

It was not the type of victory that would cause fans to stream the field and tear down the posts. But it was the kind in which the wind threatened to do it for them.

One of the posts was loosened and twisted by the wind before the game, and even after it was secured tightly, it swayed to the rhythm of the swirling gusts. Outside the stadium during the game between the Giants and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, body-bending breezes of more than 40 miles an hour were reported. Inside the stadium was like the inside of a vacuum canister.

The winds, coming from the west outside the stadium, wreaked havoc on any airborne football.

"And once we shut down the running game, we realized that they weren't really going to be able to do much,'' said Giants defensive end Michael Strahan, one of the few to decipher the true direction of the wind.

-- "I've played there five or six times and each time it's been different," said Chiefs quarterback Trent Green, who is 1-1 as a starter in Giants Stadium.
"We played there last November with St. Louis (a 38-24 Rams victory) and it was about 55 degrees with no wind," Trent Green said. "I've played there in early December (with Washington) when we missed a 27- yard field goal short because the wind was so strong. I've seen it mess with punt returners and kick returners. I've seen guys be completely underneath (a kick) and at the last second, it bounces off them.

"It can change the game plan, and that's determined in pre-game warmups. You sometimes have to adjust during the game. You get on the headset and say it's a little more windy here or the wind is swirling more there."

Quarterback Dave Brown remembers a December 1995 game against Washington when the windchill hit-10° and the winds were swirling around Giants Stadium. "I walked by the Redskins' quarterback, Heath Shuler, in the warmups," Brown recalls, "and he was having a terrible time.

He turned to me and said, 'How the hell do you play in this place?' "

"Just luck, I guess," Brown replied.

Cognizant of the fact that passing the ball may not be feasible in such harsh winds, the Giants sought to pound their feature back Rodney Hampton and did he ever respond. Hampton broke free on the Giants first possession of the second half for a 51-yard touchdown run.

I'll trust your judgment on this one, but the point stands that Foxboro is a very tough stadium to play in when the conditions kick in. You have to have some kind of arm strength to cut through those kinds of conditions.

It is a fact, not a judgment. I was pulling quotes fast -- However, The New York Times has interviewed a panel of experts and published a series of in-depth articles, making clear the meaning and relevance of the winds in Giants Stadium.

Ryan says Sanchez is the QB
Associated Press

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Rex Ryan is sticking with Mark Sanchez as his starting quarterback.

At least for now.

Ryan remained committed to the rookie after Sanchez's miserable performance that included five interceptions in the New York Jets' 16-13 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The fifth overall pick out of Southern California has mostly struggled since beating out Kellen Clemens for the job in the preseason.

"We've got the right guy," Ryan said Monday.

Sanchez is tied with Carolina's Jake Delhomme for the league lead in interceptions with 10, and his 56.7 quarterback rating is higher than only Oakland's JaMarcus Russell and Cleveland's Derek Anderson.

"I just think we've got to do a great job at looking at what we're asking this young man to do," Ryan said. "Do we need to cut things back? Are there things that we could do to put on somebody else's plate to take some things off his plate?

"I have a lot of confidence in Mark."

Sanchez was 10 of 29 for 119 yards Sunday in the 16-13 overtime loss, the Jets' third straight. It wasted a franchise-record 210 yards rushing by Thomas Jones on a day in which the Jets ran for 318 yards, second most in team history.

"We win as a team and we lose as a team," right tackle Damien Woody said. "He knows the mistakes he made. When you're winning and everything's going well, the quarterback always gets almost too much of the glory, and when you lose, he gets too much of the blame."

Sanchez was hard on himself after the game, appearing almost on the verge of tears at times during his postgame news conference.

"I really let this team down and there's no excuse for that," he said. "I have a lot of work to do."

Sanchez wasn't made available to the media Monday; he usually only speaks on Wednesdays and after games.

"Was it just the play of Mark Sanchez that got us beat? No," Ryan said. "We have to realize that this isn't a guy that's played 20 years in the league. Whatever it is, he's got an unbelievable amount of talent. We all see it. We know what he's going to be in the future, but we've got to be smart with him."

Ryan said he wasn't concerned about Sanchez's confidence, despite shots of the quarterback sitting on the bench looking shellshocked at times during Sunday's game.

"He's resilient," Ryan said. "He's going to bounce back from this. I believe that. He's mad at himself because he thinks he let his team down."

Sanchez had a solid debut at Houston, throwing for 272 yards and a touchdown in a victory. He threw for 163 yards and a score the following week against New England, and had 171 yards passing and two TDs against Tennessee in Week 3 -- and earning the nickname "Sanchize" for his play.

Then, Sanchez threw three interceptions at New Orleans before bouncing back last Monday with what he called his "best game" throwing for 172 yards and a TD. Still, he has one touchdown pass and eight interceptions in his last three games, all losses.

"I've got supreme confidence in Mark," Woody said. "He's our quarterback and he's just going to get better. He's going to learn. It was definitely a tough outing for him [Sunday], but he knows that in order to be successful in this league, you've just got to take care of the ball better."

Ryan said he thought about pulling Sanchez in favor of Clemens, but decided the rookie still gave the Jets a better chance to win. That might be as much an indictment on Clemens as it is a vote of confidence for Sanchez.

"My role each week is to be ready if I'm called upon," said Clemens, who has eight NFL starts in three-plus seasons. "Each week, it's a good thing if I'm not called upon because then Mark's playing pretty good and staying healthy."
