Let me explain something about will and determination and mindset...

They matter when it's time to PRACTICE. When it's time to GO TO BED. When it's time to EAT. When it's time to STUDY FILM. When it's time to REHAB.

They do not matter when it's time to play.

You can't magically make yourself good when you aren't. Trust me... I wanted to be good at basketball so ****ing badly. When you can't jump higher than 15 inches, your "will" and "want to" and "nothing to lose attitude" doesn't mean shit.

Guys rained threes on me and dunked on my head. They did NOT want to win more badly than I did. They often times didn't give a shit.

They were just better.

Exactly.

I think of it as focus and being in a zone so to speak. The difference between 0-24 vs the Texans and the rest of the game. Not some unprecedented level of willing yourself to victory.

And the Chiefs are now a seasoned playoff team with that level of focus. This whole "Steelers are enraged/bulletin board" stuff could be said about the Chiefs, too, after how last season ended and through 7 weeks this season. What about their 110%?

There's certainly something to be said about a nothing to lose mentality when it comes to going for it on every 4th down and so forth, but if there was a next level of motivation or next level of anger, why didn't they use it to avoid going late into OT against a team that didn't even make it to the playoffs?

Reminds me of when people would say they've watched every Chiefs game for 50 years because "when they win the SB, it'll be that much sweeter".... uh, what are you expecting? Your head to explode from excitement? To be in an orgasmic state for the next 4 weeks?

Chefs in the super bowl 3 years straight doesn't look good with the parity police

Hm. The parity police must have taken off about two decades when the Patriots owned the AFC.

KC Star’s playoff edition:

Chiefs Extra
Good morning, Chiefs fans. Who’s excited for this Sunday? I know I am.

The Chiefs are playing host to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the second time in less than a month, but this one’s for keeps: The winner advances to the AFC Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs.

The Star’s sports desk has put together a special Red Friday section to get you prepped as the Chiefs head into the postseason and embark on a quest to advance to a third consecutive Super Bowl. Now let’s dive right in:

When Patrick Mahomes betrayed some fleeting moments of mortality earlier this season, you’d have thought this revolutionary star had burst just like a supernova.

No longer was he the guy who stoked them to their first championship in 50 years and back-to-back Super Bowls and 26 wins in 27 starts before that startling wipeout against Tampa Bay in Super Bowl LV.

At least that was what you’d see and hear if you were following along in the echoing panic room that is social media. Or tracking what people paid to make snap judgments and stir things up were selling.

Not that there wasn’t ample reason to be left gasping as the Chiefs were grasping to find themselves, especially when they had plummeted to 3-4 after that 27-3 clobbering at Tennessee. Their funk, and seemingly impending collapse, felt inexplicable.

And not that there wasn’t reason to wonder what was going awry with Mahomes: He had indeed looked off-kilter at times and was uncharacteristically interception-prone.

But none of that was happening in a vacuum.

Read more about Mahomes’ growth as this season has progressed from The Star’s Vahe Gregorian.

The game will kick off on Sunday at 7:15 p.m. and can be watched on NBC (Ch. 41).

The Chiefs struggled against deep shell defenses early in the season, but Mahomes — a self-described gunslinger — turned it around by combining his aggressive nature with some newfound patience. Chiefs reporter Sam McDowell explains why that bodes well for the playoffs.

There’s little doubt one of the biggest — if not the biggest — question marks entering the 2021 season fell on the Chiefs’ offensive line, which featured all-new starters. Here’s a look at how the new-look unit has arguably exceeded expectations this season.

AFC West champions? Check. Another postseason berth? Check. Another winning season ending with 12 or more wins? Double check. Despite a shaky start, the Chiefs have surged back to contender status. Let’s revisit our midseason grades when the Chiefs were still 5-4. A lot has changed since.

This year’s mix of AFC playoff teams appear to be a more difficult field than the past two years. Which team would give the Chiefs the most trouble? The Star’s Sam McDowell breaks it down.

Did you know the Steelers hold a 23-13 advantage over the Chiefs across their 36 previous matchups? Here are the five most memorable games between the two franchises.

And don’t forget to check out today’s eEdition.

Jones is going to win this game by himself.

Chiefs may hit 30 by halftime.

BEN ROETHLISBERGER IS A FAT PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!!

TwistedChief 01-14-2022 02:07 PM

Bold prediction: The Steelers will make it a one-possession game in the fourth quarter. They got blown out in the regular-season meeting three weeks ago and trailed 23-0 at halftime. This time around, though, the Steelers are playing with house money. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger even said his club probably shouldn't be in the playoffs and that they're 14th out of the 14 teams in the playoffs. But even when they can't get off to a fast start, the Steelers have had success in second-half surges. The Chiefs have more talent, but the Steelers have the momentum after two straight wins and will make this game closer than it should be. -- Brooke Pryor

Whereas the Chiefs are actually a threat to win the SB and dominate the NFL. That upsets people

So yea, GB record in the NFCCG is pathetic. But this year they have a really nice defense to go along with a couple of really nice RBs and Rodgers has been playing at a high level along with his favorite WR.

So I don't know that I would bet against them making it to the SB.

If TB ends up in the NFCCG, I will be rooting against Brady.
