I feel like they'll come to terms but its definitely not a guarantee.

The real question is his value on the market. Is it a 1st or a 2nd round pick? I'd have to think like most and say 2nd but a high 2nd. If that's the case, Tennesee might make sense to send OBJ + #31 for #11. Otherwise, you might get Pittsburgh's pick from Chicago at #32.

I'd rather get a 2nd 1st -very early 2nd than move up to #11, I think.

I don't think it's 100% that OBJ even agrees to play on the tag again. He's not under contract so it's not like he'll be fined if he holds out. He got his ring already so that's done. He just got like 16 million this year, so he has money to live off of.

He can force the Chief's hand if he wants to. What's his motivation to do another 1-year deal? He knows there are other teams that will open the checkbook for him.

Orlando Brown can not sign the tag. If he does that and sets out all season the Chiefs can and would apply the tag to him again next offseason.
There is a part of me that hopes they do the non-exclusive so that he can shop himself and see what the rest of the league values him.
I do think that the Chiefs and NFL talent evaluators give Orlando Brown a lot more value than the fans here do. I have seen a lot of retired players defending how good of a player Brown is. There have been lots of comments about how our offense and QB make the LT position harder and that Brown has done a great job adjusting to that.

Non-exclusive means we get two first round picks. I'll take that.

I doubt any team would do that. But his agent would likely still find out that his value is not where they thought and change their demands.

Maybe the Bills or Bengals would do it to screw us, and assume their first rounders would be very late.

Has any player played for the same team on a second year tag? I remember several RB’s refusing to play under the 2nd year tag. Set out the whole year.

I just keep coming back to Brown not being the athlete of the best fit for this offense. He was the second choice the whole time when brought in. If he demands absolute top of the market I think barch goes and gets Andy a guy that they project as a batter athlete that frees up RBs as pass catchers instead of blockers more often.

Looks like Kirk Cousins played on the franchise tag in 2016 & 2017.

In Burt and Andy I trust.

It's only Bell, right? At least under the CBA rules that make it virtually impossible for it to be a good decision on the part of the player.

KC could give his agent permission to talk to other teams about a trade anyway, right?

It doesn't depend on the tag?

I sort of think KC needs to do that to set a market value for Brown.

However I also sort of think there will be at least one or two teams willing to pay quit a bit for Brown. LT's are hard to come by. Some teams do have cap space and are more run oriented.

So then how much is KC willing to pay and does Brown care about anything except maximizing his paycheck...

He was non exclusive last year and he will be this year. The Chiefs can tag him and agree to less than 2 firsts…like NE did with Cassel.

But none of that is happening unless someone comes with at least a first and a mid rounder.

Some of you are completely unrealistic in terms of OBJs value.

He didn’t give up a sack the last 8 weeks, including the playoffs
He’s made 5 straight pro bowls.
He had an elite pass blocking grade the last 9 weeks including playoffs.
He doesn’t have an injury history
He’s young

He’s also the unquestioned leader of the OL.

Veach offered him 139m last offseason and this was a far better year for OBJ.

6 years 150m deal is what everyone should prepare for, because that’s what’s gonna happen.

Those numbers are not the issue. It will be the guaranteed $$ and signing bonus that will determine whether Brown will sign.
Last year was 6 for 139 with 30 in signing bonus and 95 in the first five.
Using your numbers 6 for 150 he would likely need 45 in signing bonus and 95 in the first four with a total guarantee nearing 70 or 75.

After they broke off negotiations, Brown himself said he was looking for 25m per year “not like I was asking for 30m or something”. He’s going to get 6/150 with a lot of guarantees and if don’t have a better option, we’re going to be the one that gives it to him.

He’s been partying in vegas with Kelce and pat

I’d be shocked if he’s not here
