They still need to build some kind of DL and let the WR group stabilize itself with some additions.

Outlier?

Yeah I don’t believe for a second that Veach isn’t going to over correct to an extreme degree, whether right or wrong, when fixing this offense.

You think he’s going to risk getting sideways with Pat? No way.

He’s going to nuke the WR room and probably add a RB too and just live with what the defense is…my two cents.

Well, yeah, they traded away a HOF'er.

I was talking more about the absolute shit show of this year repeating itself. I'd say everyone agrees they aren't gonna be THIS bad again.

Rice is a nice add, they need one more top end guy. The rest can be filled easier.

Well we also thought that the offense would have to stabilize after Week 1. And that didn’t go well at all.

But come the draft, I think you’re going to be happier than me, because I think Veach will approach the WR room pretty much as you’ve described already. I just hope whoever he picks at WR isn’t another bust/long-term project, more athlete than WR type. We need a dude, not a flash in the pan/JAG this time.

If you sign and draft a guy, you're WR room is essentially going to be made up of 1/2 round draft picks and a highly paid FA. If that's what it takes to build a room, our scouts and such all need fired.

Yes because you know Kadarious Toney and Skyy Moore have shown they are the guys, that thinking is how we ended up here.

They're cheap

RunKC 01-04-2024 11:31 AM

Toney and Skyy will be here next year.

Toney will be WR4 at best and Skyy will be fighting for his job in training camp to make the roster

However, I agree that Veach won’t overhaul the room. Can’t really. So Toney, Skyy, and probably JWat will return for 2024, leaving just 2 maybe 3 spots left. And that’s if he doesn’t bring back James, which could happen.

My fear is that he’ll think this season was just a fluke, and not address the issue properly; and then we’ll have to watch yet another season of inconsistent incompetence, and waste what will likely be Travis’ final season.

Depends what you mean by overhaul..they are going to have to add 2-3 WR's.

Rice obviously and Moore and Toney will return due to what was invested in them. Watson likely comes back but hopefully more as the 5 or 6.

That leaves 3 spots because MVS and Hardman are gone and Richie James is probably gone also, that leaves likely a higher end signing, high draft pick, Justyn Ross and likely a lower end Richie James type or even a UDFA late pick battling for the last spot.

You can keep Toney, Moore and Watson if they are WR 4,5 and 6 and spend most of their time playing STs and doing nothing else...

Like if all Toney does is return punts and run a few gadget touches a game, fine, but as a relied upon WR, no.

They won't cut a 2nd round pick 3 years in, see Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The only one they ever moved on from was Speaks and that involved an entirely new coaching staff on defense and him being a total ****in idiot.

RunKC 01-04-2024 11:38 AM

I think MVS will be cut and Hardman and Richie will be guys they let walk. Watson is cheap and Mahomes trusts that man more than any WR not named Rashee Rice on the roster so he'll be back as depth. Toney is probably back too.

They'll get at least 2 new WR's IMO. I'd put that as the over/under.

Skyy will be fighting for the last WR job in camp against Ross and Remigio.

O.city 01-04-2024 11:39 AM

If you can add a first rounder, or a big time FA or a trade etc, I think you're probably fine at WR.

Add another James type FA lottery ticket and move on.

I understand giving him another training camp.

But if he looks the same as he had he shouldn’t be on the roster. There are better players on other team practice squads.

penguinz 01-04-2024 11:59 AM

Cutting both Toney and Moore would be just over $3M in dead cap. Their contracts are not keeping them on the team next season.

The offensive skill position personnel on this team will look completely different for the 2024 season.

If you are drafting a WR high it should be a guy with traits and craft. No reason to spend the pick on a project. You can get those guys later.

That’s why the Hardman pick annoyed me when McLaurin and DK and Diontae were still on the board.

Hopefully they let Mahomes throw to the top prospects again because the guys he liked were good.

It's not their contracts, it's giving up on guys they used 2nd and 3rd round picks on in the last 2 years that's the issue. Most teams will not do that.

There's no need for us to be in the "revive someone's career" business. Let someone else take that risk.

It's not gonna be easy - but Veach's job is to find someone through the draft, FA and/or trade that will be a difference maker, not a question mark.

Choice A:

You throw enough resources at WR to almost for sure guarantee that you fix that problem so Mahomes has weapons and fans are happy you took care of that problem. But you left enough holes in other places it probably reduces your chances of winning a SB.

Choice B:

You throw some resources at WR taking more calculated gambles. Which means there is a greater chance the WR problem isn't 'fixed' to everyone's satisfaction. But on balance, you probably have a greater chance at winning a SB since to win another one some of your calculated gambles will have to pay off.
