Has anyone tried the 250 Anniversary Stout? I have a cold sixer waiting for me. I generally don't like Guinness out of the bottle, but I'll try it anyway since I love Guinness. |
IT"S SO GOD DAMNED HOT!
Gin fizz by the pitcher. |
Just a few Miller Lite's should do.

Review: Crown Royal Reserve Canadian Whisky
Crown Royal is no Johnny Come Lately in the whisky world — though I’ve had a vague grudge against the brand since my family was mistakenly and bizarrely charged for 11 glasses of said whisky at Tony’s in Houston, Texas. But who doesn’t love that little purple bag? Crown Royal Reserve is, obviously, the reserve version of the classic Canadian blend. Re-released this month with a new design (and a fancy little gold bag). Formerly known as “Special Reserve,” the blend also gets a slightly new, less “Special” name. The recipe, however, is the same, a selection of less than 1 percent of the stock available to the company, notably including some spicy rye whisky. Crown Royal Reserve is a very pleasant whisky, surprisingly easy to drink even without water. The heat is minimal, allowing you to focus on the spicy notes here: cinnamon and incense, and a surprisingly light touch of vanilla from the oak barrels. Finish is short but nicely sweet. Nothing too complex, but really quite compelling… and I keep going back to it. Now I know how those mysterious guys ordered 11 of these things. http://www.drinkhacker.com/wp-conten...al-reserve.jpg |
That sounds like some smooth whusk. I'll point my cousin at it, he's a Crown man. I always doctor up a bottle of regular Crown with a shot or so of Old Overholt or Wild Turkey rye. Spices it up nicely.
Last night it was Blvd dry stout. So far today it's been a very nice bloody mary (Caraway akvavit + zing zang) and now that the akvavit had a few hours to get thru my liver I'm gonna go mow the megalawn. After that it will be Blvd Pilsner. I hereby declare Blvd Pilsner the real reason God made lawns in the first place. |
I wrote to Boulevard asking why they didn't have their new Pilsner up on their website. One of their Customer Service guys answered today that they did a 'soft' rollout, only have enough beer for the KC metro area right now, and won't put the beer on the website until they catch up with demand. They did include it on their webpage beerfinder, and they're keeping up their Facebook/Myspace info if you're really interested. Anyhoo, get some if you can.

Maybe it's because I'm in a stout mood, but this is excellent. I have been pleased with everything Breckenridge has produced so far. |
Last night it was a Boulevard Dry Stout (with grilled cheese on rye). Delish!

Let's see, what all did I have last night.... white russian with vanilla vodka, a coors original, two shots of jager, a surfer on acid, a shot of turkey and a shot of my own creation called spank my monkey.
I need to quit doing shit like that. |

As far as the shot goes, it's malibu, 99 bananas, frangelico, dark creme de cacao and cream (or milk, whichever is available). After the shot last night, well that is not for public consumption. |

Surprisingly not bad. Of course I quit drinking around 4, had breakfast around 6 and then went to bed.... |

Jim Beam introducing black cherry whiskey
Distiller hopes Red Stag brings in new customers By Mike Hughlett June 03, 2009 Cocktail drinkers have become used to flavored vodkas, from grapefruit to mango to pepper. But will they go for a flavored whiskey? Cherry whiskey, to be specific? Jim Beam is about to find out as it launches Red Stag, one of the first flavored whiskeys rolled out on a national scale. Red Stag, available this week, infuses black cherry flavors into 4-year-old Jim Beam bourbon. Beam is the biggest brand in the spirits business of Deerfield-based Fortune Brands Inc., a mini-conglomerate that also makes Titleist golf balls and Moen fixtures. With Red Stag, Beam is trying to bring more drinkers into the whiskey fold, particularly women and younger consumers of legal age, said Rory Finlay, Beam Global Spirits’ chief marketing officer. “We found this appeals to quite a lot of women,” he said. Indeed, flavored vodkas have succeeded partly because they have broadened vodka sales to women, analysts say. As for the youth angle, Beam has brought in Kid Rock as Red Stag’s primary pitchman. The new whiskey will sponsor Kid Rock’s 25-city summer tour. “He will be the real voice of the brand,” Finlay said. But can a flavored whiskey succeed like a flavored vodka? After all, vodka has no innate flavor, but whiskey certainly does, and a lot of drinkers like it just the way it is. Derek Leckow, an analyst at Barrington Research, said he thinks Red Stag has a good chance of boosting Beam’s sales. Right now, there’s not a lot of innovation in the spirits business, “and innovation leads to positive sales trends,” he said. John Hansell, editor and publisher of Malt Advocate, a publication for whiskey fanciers, said he thinks Red Stag will draw consumers who normally don’t drink the stuff. “How it fits with whiskey purists is something still to be determined,” he said. “I had a sample and I enjoyed it.” http://graneyandthepig.files.wordpre...05/jimbeam.jpg Bought a bottle of this in the Rota NEXmart today. Not too bad as a change of pace; interesting qualities and I'm not usually a Beam fan. I think this will--as the article implies--appeal mostly to younger drinkers who are typically afraid of Bourbons & Whusks in general... |

Bought a sixer of Boulevard Pale Ale today...didn't like it back in November, figured I'd give it another shot tonight.
They raised the Boulevard prices $8.50 to $11.00 at the local liquor store. |

$7.50 for 3.2? Ugh. Boulevard six packs should be $7.50 everywhere for normal product. |

You can get a 12-pack of Boulevard in STL for $11.99 regularly. |

They had a dry stout boulevard. Any good? |
Lunar Ale it was.
Style is Unfiltered Brown Ale according to their website. |

This towns two liquor stores rip people off. Small, college town...most of these college people aren't smart enough to know. The lady said she hadn't raised prices on them in 15 months. a 2.50 price jump made zero sense. |

Boulevard website says the Wheat is 3.5% by weight 4.4% by volume. So, does that mean the bar here isn't serving 6 point like they say they are?

I can get a 16 oz Boulevard in OKC for the same price. I'd rather pay the extra buck for Boulevard than drink shit Bud Light. |
Was over at the Uptown Theater for a big local metal festival. The only bands worth seeing were Vanlade and Ascension, so before they went on I walked over to Gomer's Midtown. Picked up some bombers:
Southern Tier Iniquity (Imperial Black IPA) -- it's a double IPA that's made with dark malt Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye -- an IPA with a significant amount of rye in the grain bill. Great Divide Fifteenth Anniversary Ale -- this one is an Imperial IPA that has been aged, curiously enough for a double IPA, in oak barrels. |
I bought two bottles of wine. Not opening them tonight, seeing as I'm on call. Both are Barefoot ($5.99/bottle). One Riesling and one Shiraz.

I didn't buy the sixer, wanted to ask CP first. I'm going to a liquor store in a bigger town Monday, they let you create your own six packs. So, I'll probably pick up a couple sixers of varieties. |
