Not Peterson but maybe a safety or lb

Reddick in particular

Yup Reddick is absolutely what the Chiefs need. We just need a backer who ca. cover defense will be alright.

We'll open it back up during FA.

pugsnotdrugs19 09-30-2018 07:09 PM

I hope we can find a way to add some talent to the defense this season but if not we will be glad to have those picks and that cap space come April.

Just gotta use it right...

jaa1025 09-30-2018 07:10 PM

Well with this potential trade dead, are there any other safety candidates to trade for?

pugsnotdrugs19 09-30-2018 07:10 PM

If the Chiefs are picking late first round, Veach could even use his extra 2 to move up in the first and get it an impact player.

Best bet is probably guys like Watts and O’Daniel stepping up and getting playing time.

Well, that’d be ideal and the best case scenario. But I sure am not counting on it.

I actually think we’ll see him play against either Jacksonville or New England. But I fear another injury will occur similar to last year if he is overcompensating for that bone spur.

@TerezPaylor: Earl Thomas got hurt today, and here’s why he’s not the only one who lost - the #Chiefs, #Cowboys and #Seahawks did, too (complete with some bitter #news for Chiefs fans):

Yep...seems like they were hoping to get it done this week if not by the deadline.

Standing ovation for dumb****s Carroll and co. Thomas probably knew he had an extension waiting for him here. Got ****ed over because the Seahawks wanted too much in trade compensation and decided to play him instead of sit him.

We need defense. Scandrick has been okay, but the jury is still out if he will be good the rest of the season.

Peterson locks down one side of the field. If Scandrick continues to play well, he can play the other side and Fuller can shift back to the slot and shut down the middle of the field.

This defense needs talent anywhere it can get it.

I'll agree that we do need defense, but I disagree that CB is the problem. The problem is the safeties keeps blowing coverages, specifically, Murray.

When safeties blow their coverages, it makes the CB's look worse than they really are.

Simply Red 09-30-2018 08:15 PM

No.

We.

Don't.

The safety play is the big culprit as to why the Chiefs are giving up too many yards. Corners will win some and lose some. It's not like the Chiefs are throwing out Bartee and Gaines.

We absolutely don't. The biggest position of need, by far, is deep safety. There's no reason to give up picks to rent a CB when it doesn't significantly improve the team right now. Keep the picks and take a CB in the 2019 draft.

Since when did being bad at one position prevent you from being bad at another?

We need corners. We need safeties. We need linebackers. We need linemen. The priority or trade targets or anyone else doesn't really matter. We need help everywhere. LOL at our laughing-stock D not needing corners. We could have prime Ed Reed and Ronnie Lott and we'd still need corners. And we could have prime Deion and we'd STILL need corners. Holy shit. What do you people watch on Sundays.

We're talking about trading picks here. Nobody said we don't need CB's. We said we don't need them bad enough to start giving away high picks.

The single biggest hole on this defense is deep safety. We could have fixed that with Earl Thomas.

Outside of that, there isn't a single solitary move that would make this appreciably better THIS YEAR. Patrick Peterson is going to be more expensive than Earl Thomas in terms of picks. It's not worth it because Patrick Peterson by himself isn't making that much of a difference if Eric Murray is still manning the deep middle.

Pete Carroll presser.

Did you see the gesture at the sideline?

Somebody said something about it. I don't know anything about it. It's a big stadium, I don't know where it was aimed at. Earl was extraordinarily poised on the field. For what had just occurred, to be so resolved, he knew what happened. He was so poised, giving back to the players and all of us. I don't know what happened after that.

Do you realize that this was exactly what he had feared in his holdout?

Yeah. That's why it's so bitter sweet. We had turned things around and everything was going in a positive direction. It breaks my heart that we're talking about this right now.

What a chode.

Makes sense, especially if they keep winning and winning.

If they look like a top 2 seed headed for playoff exit because of defensive weakness, Veach had better at least try some sort of move to help.

O.city 09-30-2018 08:50 PM

Clowney maybe. You gotta have a guy that can win individual matchups because our back end can't cover well enough to have to blitz all the time.

I'd still rather they focus on safety over anything else right now.

So can any other average or above average QB in the NFL. The hell with Brady, this is a Chiefs issue.

We have to have 2 solid safeties and a pass rush to limit the damage.

1. Pass rush to speed up the QB's throws while not getting a good enough read on the defense.

2. Safeties to read said QB's that is under duress to pick off the pass.
