Bummer for you teachers. Seems a little asinine they would make the teachers show up.

Well, at least you know your limitations in this shit. You'd be suprised how many people drive everyday like it's sunny and 70 (and not just those in Olathe, either).

I work out of the UPS hub in Lenexa. If I went in, I imagine I'd just be getting there. I start at 2:30.

That seems odd when they cancel in these parts teachers are off too. Just the administration (education office) goes in.

Thing that pissed me off was seeing a couple people drive by while I was stuck, looking over laughing or staring me down like "get the **** out of the way", like I'm some kind of moron. I'm just trying to get home lady I bet you wrap your stupid ass Kia sportage around a ****ing pole before you get home. :cuss: :shake:

Soooooo ... how high does the snow have to get on a roof before it becomes a problem?

You could always do this:

they won't have to count it as a snow day that way...

I suspect tho that all will return to normal Thursday and that we will have school for all.

Wichita is babysitter for 50 thousand kids. It is rare for us to have snow days so I am not complaining at all

bevischief 02-01-2011 04:43 PM

Just unburied my truck otherwise I don't think I would find for a few days. Almost had to go out the back door due to all the snow piled up against the screen door.

Found the other one halfway down the street. And, of course, as soon as I get settled in and comfy, the wife, who just started a new job, call needing a ride home from work.

What's wrong with her legs?

KCUnited 02-01-2011 04:45 PM

You know it's dead serious when the Red X is closed. I'm officially scared.

MoDOT Closing I-70 in Boone, Cooper and Callaway Counties
Travel Throughout Most of the State Is Not Advised

JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Department of Transportation is closing I-70 in Boone, Cooper and Callaway counties due to whiteout conditions. It's unknown how long the closure will last.

MoDOT and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are advising people not to travel. Most state highways are covered with snow making travel dangerous. Already some areas of the state have received up to 12 inches of snow, with more accumulations expected.

"This is not a good time to be on the road," MoDOT Director of System Management Don Hillis said. "Almost all of the state is covered with snow and some areas are receiving ice, making some roads impassable. Please stay home if you can."

MoDOT is coordinating its emergency response operations with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the State Emergency Management Agency and other partners.

If you do have to travel, MoDOT urges you to plan ahead, take your time and know what you're up against by checking local news sources and the department's Traveler Information Map. The map gives drivers an up-to-the-minute view of road conditions for major Missouri highways. Conditions for major routes across the state are color-coded to give visitors the information they need at a glance.

Travelers can also call MoDOT's toll-free number, 888-275-6636, to get road condition information.

My wife is a state employee & they are still expected to make it to work through this & even Jay Nixon declaring an emergency & calling out the National Guard. Crazy.
