When does Myers come up and start taking time from Frenchy?

Do we bring up Myers and let him backup Cain and Frenchy for a year?

David Dejesus thinks Cain has a glass vagina.

Kind of like a mercy killing tonight

DeezNutz 09-25-2012 07:28 PM

Cain was a hot start away from being a complete and utter joke this season. In no way should he have a guaranteed job coming into ST next year.

And Frenchy can choke on it along with Hoch and Cassel.

As good as Chen was last night, I think he has to go.

Cain had a terrible April (5 games), a great July (18 games), an awful August (26 games) and a great September (12 games).

He was Jekyll and Hyde all season. That's frustrating, but if he can be the hitter he was once he returned from injury (.275/.325/.440 - even with the slump in August) while playing great defense in CF, he's a plus player.

As for his injury history... the guy had injury problems all season this year, but in the 8 years he has been a professional baseball player, he's been generally healthy. Too early to say this year indicates his ability to stay healthy or not.

Give him a full offsesaon to get his legs healthy, and I think we see a much more healthy guy next season (which probably translates into better defense and a little better play at the plate).

I'll take both and call the off season good.

cookster50 09-26-2012 11:48 AM

Santana sucks.

Fansy the Famous Bard 09-26-2012 12:07 PM

He just had the worst year of his career, by far... That being said, he would have been our best starting pitcher this year posting the same stats.

duncan_idaho 09-26-2012 01:32 PM

Santana is kind of a modern-day Saberhagen, in that he has typically had one good year, followed by one bad year.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to offer him a one-year deal. Gives him a chance to up his value and earn a long-term deal pitching in a pretty friendly park (at least for a guy whose biggest problem is the gopher ball).

As for Haren... I'm a little surprised to hear they will cut ties with him. You'd think they'd be able to trade him for SOMETHING - and then not have to pay the $3 million buyout.

DeezNutz 09-26-2012 02:36 PM

Haren, please.

He would make a ton of sense. Too much, probably (as he makes a ton of sense for lots of other teams, too).

Probably are looking at 4 years, $65-70 million or so. I'd do it, but that's a lot to spend on a 32-year old who DOES have back problems this year.

I'd probably rather go 4 years, $60 million on Anibal Sanchez, if I had to choose.

Fansy the Famous Bard 09-26-2012 02:53 PM

How about all 3 of them?

Either would be fine with me. Sanchez would seem to be less risky, in many ways. Peavy might well be in the conversation. Another guy who is 31-32, injury history, but tons of talent.

Regardless, this speaks to why the Royals really need to get two guys, in addition to Guthrie. One doesn't live up to expectations, hope the other two do.
