3lbs this week. I was counting on 5. I'll assume that all the water I drank yesterday combined with all the sodium in that pizza is holding that number down. I'll bet a couple more pounds falls off in the next couple of days as I clean out.

You need to stop worrying about it, stressing out, and just relax and enjoy the ride.

I wouldn't look at the scale for a month.

I may just take your advice. If so I'll weight next Monday for the biggest loser thread, and then wait until April 1st to weigh again. That really may be the best thing I could do.

No shit! Good call. Just count the calories and be done with it. You're going to fluctuate and drive yourself crazy.

Totally, totally smoked my upper body today. Whew. Haven't felt this fatigued in a LONG ass time.

I know the weight is low, but holy GOD... when your rest intervals are this short, you NEED way less weight. Definitely doing this again Friday.

BB Bench: 5 sets, 12, 10, 8, 6, 15 @ 135, 145, 155, 165, 135, 45 seconds rest between each set
Cable Flys: 4 sets, 12, 10, 10, 8 @ 40 lbs per side, 45 seconds rest
Incline DB Bench: 4 sets, 12, 10, 10, 7 @ 40 lbs, 45 seconds rest

Military Press: 5 sets, 12, 10, 8, 6, 15 @ 65, 75, 85, 95, 45, 45 seconds rest
Cable Lateral raise: 4 sets, 15, 12, 12, 10 @ 50 lbs, 45 seconds rest
Seated Shoulder Press: 4 sets, 12, 10, 7, 7 @ 75 lbs, 45 seconds rest

Dips: 4 sets, 10, 8, 6, 4, 45 seconds rest
Cable Pressdowns: 4 sets, 8, 15, 12, 10 @ 60 lbs 45 seconds rest
Close-grip pushups: 4 sets, 5, 3, 2, 1 45 seconds rest (I was SMOKED at this point)

Then I did core:
2 sets of 15 reps Supermans, 5 second holds, 30 seconds rest
3 sets of plank @ 2 minutes, 45 seconds rest
2 sets birddogs of 10 reps per side, 5 second holds, 45 seconds rest
3 sets, 15 reps per side, oblique v-ups, no rest

*dead*

How much should one rest between sets Silock? I don't usually wait more than 45 seconds between sets myself but I thought that was normal.

Depends on your goals, the number of reps and the weight you are working with.

If your main goal is to get stronger, then you want to go with heavier weight, lower reps and rest 3 minutes between sets.

Otherwise, resting a minute is plenty.

Silock 02-22-2010 05:58 PM

^^ That. Although, I still think 3 minutes is a long-ass time.

Yeah, it doesn't sound that long, until you actually try to go through a workout resting three minutes between sets. It feels like a freaking eternity.

Thank you gentlemen. It pains me to admit this but I'm not lifting very much weight, but it's a lot to me. :)

Should I wait more than 45 seconds between sets? I am trying to get stronger. Much stronger.

Seems long to me too. I've never rested that long between sets unless I was zero hour lifting in high school and never completely woke up.

While that's entirely true, seeing movement on the scale is my primary form of motivation right now, as it's the primary reason I started working out. It's hard for me to keep eating right and working hard if I don't have some measure that says the effort is paying off.

It is really frustrating, though. I've been plateaued for 5 days after dropping my calories last week. Ugh.

Don't forget that you're also putting on muscle mass as well which is going to increase your weight. It doesn't all come down to that number on the scale.

Yeah. Even when I'm strength training, I never rest for more than 90 seconds. It's just not necessary for me. Your mileage may vary!

No. You're still in the newbie lifting phase, which can last from anywhere between 2-5 years. You'll be fine with 45-60 second rest intervals. During this time, you can put on a lot of muscle and get a lot stronger. It's only when you've been doing it forever that you need to worry about longer rest periods and body-part specific workouts and other such nonsense.

K.I.S.S. should be your motto for now.
