This will just encourage the NFL to put more games on streaming sites in the future because they know the fans will watch and pay.

Sure but when you say record numbers, we’re talking record streaming numbers. It is still 30m viewers less than bengals/chiefs last year. And that was without Taylor swift. We still have to hold the context that the game that should have been the highest draw (wild cards generally max at 35m+), avg viewership was equal to the lowest wild card (low 20m)

So yes peacock got what they wanted and the nfl got paid. But when the chiefs obliterate ratings next week, the missed opportunity of not putting this in front of tens of millions more fans is going to get scrutinized

I think Rain Man cares more about the 20%.

Social media?
Bragging?

No, this is what grooming really looks like.
Like infants in Jordans.
That 20% that cared about principles will die much sooner than the people embracing streaming.

Not Rain Man tho.

For context the browns/texans had 29m viewers vs the chiefs 23m.
- 1 small market team, the other a low interest team
- no superstars
- not primetime
- no Taylor swift

Beat the team with one of the biggest superstars in sports supported by one of the biggest celebrities in the world by 6M avg viewers. And that’s not including all the bars and the dozens of fans in those bars that chose not to subscribe

Passive consumers don't spend like active ones.
Yay for eye balls.

Probably.

I'm not defending the NFL money grab. I think it was the wrong time for this move. But....... streaming is the future. No one can stop that transition. They consolidate down to 3-4, thats when they make the move.

Thats why Amazon wasn't a big deal to move games there. Most were already paying as part of their package delivery. Should have waited a couple of years to move games to a tied C streaming service.

Correct on the bolded part. I guess I should have said that.

You would think in a mature market. But the chiefs are a rare opportunity to turn the uninterested into passive consumers. So eyeballs do matter. Millions buying a single jersey add up.

And they certainly matter for advertisers and sponsors.

But beyond that, pissing fans off by milking them for every penny ain’t the route either. So there’s also that.

Taylor Swift fans pay thousands of dollars for tickets. And millions on crap.

If you're relying on her, you did it right.

NBC did it right because they gained new subscribers

But for the nfl, I’m not convinced that restricting millions of swifties from their first taste of playoff football is a good way to capitalize. Imagine if kc lost. Their only redemption is that the chiefs will run it back next week no doubt to monster ratings.

The bottom line is the NFL cheated MILLIONS of NFL fans out of watching a playoff game. Based purely on greed.

Still got a week and 1/2 on my free trial and gave Peacock/NBC zero credit card info. :thumb:

Did you hear NBC bragging last night? It's over. We lost. More games we have to pay for are coming. ****ing leeches. I'm done after Mahomes.
