The full seven rounds. The whole enchilada! Cool! Think you guys will be able to get this done by the time the real draft get here? I hope so because I wanna see how Mecca fixs our O line with his late round picks.

The Jacksonville Jaguars select Josh Johnson, QB, San Diego
The Jaguars were all ready to pick Charles Godfrey from Iowa but the Steelers decided to not draft another Guard and actually fix their lack of CB depth. So where do the Jags go from here? They could draft offensive line and grab the first Center off of the board but they already have a youngster waiting in the wings at that position. Tony Hills would have been another pick here but he's also been taken. So the Jaguars have decided to go with a kid who could be their starter after a couple of years. David Garrard has done wonderful so far but he's also looking for a new contract in the Tony Romo range. They signed Cleo Lemon from the Dolphins....but he's Cleo Lemon not Dan Marino. They're more than likely going to lose Q. Gray to free agency so why not draft a QB at this position. Johnson would be able to sit for the first year or two and learn from Garrard. This would also give him some time to put on a little bit of bulk. On a side note. This was a really tough decision. I was hoping Godfrey would fall and I didn't really have a backup plan like I should have. Johnson might be a reach in the 3rd but he's not being asked to start at this point in time. Flame away.... |

I think you made a GREAT pick and for all the right reasons. Lemon doesn't have much of a future in this league, and Gray is gone. Garrard is the Jags' franchise guy, I think, but they are thin at the position and Johnson will need to go to a team that'll be patient enough to give him a couple years of grooming (although I could really see him surprising and needing much, much less than that). Listen, Johnson's going to need some good coaching to get his game adjusted to the NFL but he's got as much upside as any QB in this Draft. He is incredibly sharp, perhaps the most accurate thrower in this Draft, and he runs with 4.5 speed. Not even Dixon is as good of a scrambler as Johnson is and will be. He's boom-or-bust. But he's incredibly careful with the ball and the Jags will value that. |
That said, the Bears really could have used Johnson to fall one more slot, but I think Ainge is a good option for them. I believe they should go QB, as the drop after Ainge is fairly sharp.

Well as I take over the Eagles, I want to thank Sandy Limpdick for his efforts in the first three rounds. However, I would put his Draft as squarely "below average," as I'm really fond of just one of his picks. But this is the problem when you have teams that frequently switch ownership, and certainly when you have one team being drafted by multiple people -- necessary evil, I know, but an evil nonetheless.
Sweed in the first round was probably my least favorite pick. Sweed is going to be a terror in the red zone and may create some problems as a possession receiver, but I see him as a more athletic version of Dwayne Jarrett -- big, talented WR who can't get open in the NFL. I like Sweed a lot but definitely not this high. Lofton was a brilliant pick in the second round. MLB was not an immediate need for the Eagles, but they have a proud defensive tradition that weighs a lot on their linebackers. Lofton is a born locker room leader whose talents on the field deceive his lukewarm Combine performance. Lofton is one of those players that exhibits vast amounts of heart and pride on the field, and add that into the fact that he had an illustrious career on perhaps the Big 12's best defense and he's an unreal acquisition that late in the 2nd. He's backing up Gaither at MLB for now... but expect the LB unit to be his come 2009. Young was a pretty good pick for the Eagles' interior line in the third. It was decent value, but I never got the impression that the Eagles' interior line was the problem. The problem has been their woes at left tackle. Thomas isn't going to hold it down, and Justice is aweful, but there doesn't seem to be any decent LTs left (it sucks that Limpdick skipped out on Chris Williams in the 1st for Sweed). Young's chances of converting back out to tackle are weak in the NFL, and nonexistent if you're talking LT. He's primarily a smashmouth guy, so the Eagles may want to consider a better straight-ahead RB than they've got. All in all, that's only one immediate starter out of his first three picks, and Sweed will be iffy to begin with. But Lofton will eventually emerge as a Pro Bowler in a couple years. Young's future is far more uncertain, but he'll get a shot. |
I'm going to run into the same problem with the Packers. I wouldn't have drafted a QB.

With the 90th pick in the 2008 Annual CP Mock Draft the Chicago Bears select:
Duane Brown, OT, Virginia Tech |
Alright Packers.....don't screw this up for the future GM. lol
Why do I envision a kicker being taken with the next pick? |
