I am getting amped up for my workout....also doing a little writing tonight. I used to do stand up and now I am writing a Christian based act. I am shooting for about 45 minutes to an hour, but I need to get it finished so I can start promoting it. I am trying to have the first concert in June.

Tonight is back/biceps. I ate a little more yesterday than I have in a while and I felt great going to the gym last night. I didn't eat a bunch of crap.... but, I had more carbs than I typically do. So, today, I did similar. We will see what happens. I definitely don't want to inhibit my growth with my diet. I don't think the actual muscle building part has been effected, but with limited carbs for energy, I may not be working hard enough to get where I want to go.

Today's meals have been protein shake, and two bowls of chicken/cheese/tomato/potato soup. It is is delicious. Not low carb, low fat, or low calorie.... but not total crap either.

You need to work planks, side planks, supermans, birddogs, and MAYBE some reverse crunches. I guarantee you that those exercises will do WAY more to help you than crunches and toe touches.

Well maybe. My crunches are veried. I do other things too for my torso. Planks? Gosh I should know what these are but it eludes me. Dude it's not like I'm a big wuss. I could refine my abb workout but I wanna be careful. Supermans...maybe just a few but those make my lower back tender. Now if I were 15 years old it might be o.k. but I'm almost 50. Well actually I do those in summer while swimming laps. I'm pretty active so I don't know. All I know is I don't need to aggevate any injuries. Seems I always do....once I start I over train. I have a goal of not to do that and not to work so hard I can't keep it up for ever. Balance......not saying I got that but that's my goal about working out.

I've been a little over the top, I admit. I kind of require that starting out. Then I get a little scared of letting go some because I fear falling off. Eventually though I even out and just do my thing. I'm getting close.

I fully admit that I'm an overthinker and don't really know how to stop.

Facts change as evidence changes. I don't think I've ever said within 8 minutes, but I could be wrong. You have a long time, really. Your body's ability to absorb glycogen into muscles is increased for a couple of hours following exercise, but it's not a HUGE deal.

Just drink it when you get home if you want to. There's no huge rush.

Awesome. I wasn't really trying to call you out or anything I just got a little defensive over the obsession comment (because I know it rings true) and wanted to clarify why I said I'd drink the shake at the gym.

I don't know about the water though. I think the calories from skim milk would be well spent in that shake.

I'm just saying that crunches are fairly useless for athletic performance. Plus, they create a lot of lower back flexion, which is bad.

I'm not calling you a wuss. I'm just trying to help you use your time more effectively.

They make your lower back tender because your lower back is weak. Supermans, planks and the other exercises will ALLEVIATE and PREVENT injury. They don't cause them. They help your muscles develop more stabilization potential so that you don't end up hurting yourself. This is opposed to movements that flex the lower back, which can and DO cause injury, especially if done with great volume and frequency.

No worries. It's fine if you want to use your calories there. Just make sure you budget the rest accordingly. :)

Does it taste alright with water?

Some do, some don't. What brand do you have? Generally, any chocolate flavor will be okay with water. Myofusion chocolate tastes great with water, as does Optimum Nutrition Extreme Milk Chocolate.

Are they? My wife bought me a 4 pack of the Myo-Plex or whatever it's called, and I was going to save those for when I got further into my weight training.

Shit. I'll have to dig it up, I think I got vanilla flavored. It doesn't really matter, I can chug just about anything. :)

If it's too many calories with milk, I'll just use the water.

I prefer milk, but if you have Chocolate flavor half the brands I've had are tolerable with water. I got Strawberry once and you HAVE to use milk with it.

Mr. Flopnuts 02-23-2010 07:43 PM

Btw, I feel ****ing great after lifting today. If my soreness is over I'll be a happy, happy man. My arms were just ****ing aching all night last night.

It's not "too many calories." You just have to account for it in your daily caloric intake.

I've played golf since I was 10 years old and never had a back injury doing that. Any time I had an injury was trying to do something to strengthen my back. (lower back) If it ain't broke leave it alone....I've come to that with my lower back.
