The idea that Dickinson is only good because of his is size is ridiculous. Being 7 feet doesn’t make him good at hitting long jumpers and shots from weird angles, and it doesn’t make him a good passer. His body is actually what prevents him from being a truly dominant player. He could be 6’8 and still score with the best of them.

If I gambled on sports I'd put my life savings on Arkansas.

I’m not going to pretend KU is amazing or anything but I think sometimes KU fans forget that other teams have problems too. This Arkansas team lost to a 12 win South Carolina team by 19 just a couple of weeks ago. They barely beat them by 4 in the SEC tournament with their season on the line. They lost 5 in a row at one point and 6 of 7. KU is better than them in the metrics for a reason.

All things considered it’s the best we could have hoped for. Open up against a team that doesn’t shoot 3s well and take just as few as we do. Yes their guards are quicker than ours but everyone in the tournament has a better guard than Harris so it is what it is. Then we get the worst #2 seed who hasn’t really beat anyone elite this season. Obviously this team could lose by 20 in the first round and nobody would be surprised, but if there was ever a miracle sweet 16 run in them, this draw is about as good as it could be. I’d rather have this than Mizzou’s draw.

He would be playing at Pitt State if he was 6'8". He would be absolutely fkd if he wasn't 7'2".

Truth be told without being negative. There is a reasonable chance at a S16.

We can beat Arkansas.

And we actually match up with St Johns pretty well.

Old school coaches like Pitino, Sampson, Calipari we usually can ball with. The BYU, UCONN and Villanova modern basketball types tend to give us more problems stylistically.

Looks like I’ve been released from purgatory again just in time for the annual NCAA matchup preview. I’ve delved a bit further into it this evening and what I found has only confirmed my initial suspicions. Arkansas is a wagon. The committee knew what they were doing in setting us up with this game and it’s going to take everything this team has (and more) to survive it.

Before I get to that this week, I’m just gonna note that KU has been ranked in baseball for the first time in 11 year today. First time in history that baseball is ranked and basketball isn’t at the same time?

Arkansas was an unknown to start the year but Cal was able to get enough talent to be a good team. Many fans/pundit feel the team under performed in his 1st season.

KU, heh, major disappointment with talent they had brought in. Rather it be the talent didn't match the system or the fact there wasn't enough consistency from each player from game to game to make KU relevant? Just a major disappointment from an under performing team!

Teams with talent that underperformed are always terrifying.

They won’t win it all, but they can beat you.

There are so many variables going into the tournament.

If we can even get AVERAGE guard play from DaJuan I can see this team heading to the Sweet 16.

I see the NCAA is paying him extra to be a homer.

This year hasn’t been much of an underperformance. The talent was overrated from the beginning (zero NBA players). They’re often the less athletic team on the court. Not Self’s finest roster construction. That said, they’ve also shown they can compete with anybody.

I was wrong.

After a further deep dive into the strengths, weaknesses, and KenPom ratings of these two teams, there’s only one conclusion that can be drawn: KU is going to annihilate Arkansas.

On offense, the Razorbacks struggle significantly (73rd in offensive efficiency) while not being a particularly strong shooting (88th in eFG%) or free throw team (107th in FTA/FGA). While they have an accomplished veteran guard in Johnell Davis who led his Florida Atlantic team to a FF, KU has two of the best shut down defenders in the country in Dajuan Harris and KJ Adams who are literal national champions and one of the best shot blocking bigs in the country (Flory Bidunga, 16th in block rate) coming off the bench. KU has been an excellent defensive team all season (11th in defensive efficiency) and there is every reason to believe that they can limit the scoring of an injured Arkansas team in the absence of their best and most efficient interior scorer Adou Theiro.

On defense, while Arkansas is more known for its success in this area (18th in defensive efficiency) with one of the top shot blocking bigs in the country in Ivisic, he is nothing that the best offensive KU player in over a decade can’t handle. All-American Hunter Dickinson is an absolute force in the interior and forces teams consistently into double teams when he’s not torching opposing players in the post. If Calipari makes the same choice that many other coaches have, he’ll be giving up open threes to two of the best sharp shooting guards in the country in Zeke Mayo (41.3% from 3) and Diggy Coit (38.7% from 3) in addition to a FF-experienced wing in Rylan Griffen who rained threes down all tournament last year.

It is undeniable that KU was absolutely screwed by the committee this year with its seed but it is nothing that a team with this kind of talent can’t handle. This group took down the current betting favorite to win the entire tournament in Duke, beat another top 2 seed in MSU and had another championship favorite on the ropes after completely outplaying them all game in Houston. If this KU team plays at its top level, Arkansas will be no more than a gnat to them on the road to a historic Final Four run.

Ultimately, we are the ****ing Kansas Jayhawks. The best and winningest goddamn program in college basketball history. This is our time. Our moment. And nobody, especially not John Calipari and his flawed Arkansas team, is going to stand in the way of that.

KU did not "completely outplay Houston in Houston."

They showed toughness, but Houston
absolutely destroyed them with 2nd chance shots and as a result took 26 more shots. That is a huge deal, and thats why they lost.

You're spot on with the KU pedigree, but this year's KU team is not of that elk.
