I noticed in the Texans game the way our defenders hit the QB compared to what the Texans were doing. You can tell our guys have been coached on how to deliver a hit without drawing a flag on it

If they need 30, they'll have it. I'm absolutely confident there.

But I'm not sure they have 35.

So I'm going to go with 31-27 Chiefs.

Buffalo will drive into Chiefs territory -- maybe even get down around the 30 -- and come up short. Some crazy Spags blitz on 2nd down or something will get them behind the sticks, they'll face a 4th and long and not be able to convert.

I don't anticipate being comfortable at any point and I'll spend the whole game annoyed about that fact.

I think we should be able to win this one without having to sweat out the final seconds. But that's just now how this Chiefs team rolls.

If you aren't cursing, it must not be gameday. THAT'S their identity at this point.

Had it a little wrong in the margins, but otherwise damn near nailed it and damn near nailed the final score.

Pretty good predictions! My Dad was very confident KC would find a way to win it 32-29 at the end. My Mom and I both thought Buffalo would score a FG or TD. I was just hoping there would be enough time on the clock for Chiefs offense to do something at the very end.

Thankfully Kincaid dropped the ball. It was about time Buffalo had some bad luck. There were 5 fumbles in this game and Buffalo recovered all of them. Josh Allen also got away with 3-4 interception quality throws. Buffalo was having insane luck on the turnover worthy plays. Imagine if the Chiefs had that type of luck in the game. It would have been a blowout similar to Philly & Washington.

But that seems like a variation of 9 man football. the WR on the outsides were great decoys.

It was not only new, it attacked what Buffalo struggles with...

Misdirection and counter plays. We used Buffalo's D strength (running fast to the ball) against them.

Don’t get me started on Trey Smith. He was good on some of the run pulls but he was struggling all night against Oliver. Creed more than helped him out there

As long as he doesn't demand the bag.

I think the AFC Championship game made it very clear that we have to get better athletes at LB.

Tranquil fell off a cliff this year. And he was already slow. Bolton was never fast, he is a very good tackler, but he rarely makes the play without anyone else winning. Not that he doesn't make a play like that every few games, but he can't shed linemen once engaged, and because he isn't fast, he doesn't get to the spot his brain tells him to go to all the time.

I am not sure how Chenal would perform in their positions exactly, but he is definitely more athletic. We definitely need more of that, and less of the slow guys. I know. Duh.

One of those "slow" guys is the key to our run defense. You can surround Bolton with faster guys and get the best of both worlds.

Tranquil is the weak link. He’s a step or two slow (always) and weak AF at the point of attack. I’ve never seen him tackle through anyone one. He meets them and they knock his ass backwards.

Chenal is fine at the Sam.
Bolton good at the Mike.

Tranquill's decline this year created a weakness at the Will, IMO. He just looks quite a bit slower than he did last season. And I don't expect he's gonna look FASTER next season.

Unfortunately his 2025 salary is guaranteed. If we could get him traded and go get Gay back, I'd like to see it. But obviously the coaching staff disagrees.

I get that he's a smart player, but knowing where to be and actually getting there are two different things. And he seems like maybe he's lost just enough raw speed that he isn't quite getting to those areas like he did in 2023.

R Clark 01-31-2025 11:50 AM

Spags loves vets who know the defense.

Gay was just dumb. Great athlete, killed people if he ran into them. But not instinctual.

Anyone with access to the all-22, was Pacheco out of bounds on the 2nd and 9 play at the end? They never replayed it, Mahomes thought he stayed in, and it just didn’t look obvious he was out. I know he could have maybe stepped out but I’d like to see it.

George is seen too often for what he is not -- a twitchy and bendy athlete that gets to the QB quickly. But he does so many things for this team that are taken for granted. Setting the edge is an end's first responsibility, and George has been so very reliable in that regard. His continued hustle through the whistle is Tamba reincarnate. George is not country-strong like Chris Jones. He is not as fast as FAU. But he is the best "glue" guy we have had on our defensive line since Hali. What a great 30th pick of the draft.

I'm with those that want to keep Bolton and surround him with Chenal and another Willie Gay type. Because while speed is always paramount, Bolton compensates by being the smartest guy on the defense and directing our speed where it will be best utilized.

I think Spags probably bases his decisions too often on who are the smartest players that best understand his system. From what I've read, Spags' system becomes more complicated each year -- which is great. But we've gotta find guys that are both fast AND smart enough to make the correct decisions on the fly.
